Holder Cove Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines riverside beauty with opportunities for fishing, Holder Cove Campground, located in Tellico Plains, TN 37385, USA, offers a potentially appealing destination. Situated directly on the Tellico River, this small campground seems to provide a tranquil and accessible natural setting. Based on the available customer reviews, it has several attractive features, along with a few practical considerations for visitors.
Riverside Beauty and a Relaxed Atmosphere
The environment of Holder Cove Campground is consistently praised for its beauty. One reviewer described it as a "Beautiful spot directly on the Tellico river," immediately highlighting its prime location. Camping right by a river often offers scenic views, the soothing sounds of flowing water, and easy access for various activities. The fact that it's on the Tellico River is significant, as this area is known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
One visitor who arrived on a beautiful October weekend noted that even on a Friday afternoon, only 2 out of the 7 sites were taken, and by nightfall, there were still two sites available. This suggests that, at least during that specific time, the campground was not overly crowded, potentially offering a more peaceful and relaxed camping experience. For those looking for "camping near me" where they can enjoy nature without excessive crowds, Holder Cove might be a good fit.
The same reviewer also commented that the campsites were "Overall clean & level," which are important factors for a comfortable camping experience, whether you're in a tent or a smaller RV. Level sites make setup easier, and cleanliness contributes to a more enjoyable stay.
Opportunities for Trout Fishing
For anglers looking for "camping near me" with fishing opportunities, Holder Cove Campground appears promising. One reviewer mentioned, "Short walk up the road caught some good sized trout." This indicates that the Tellico River near the campground is a viable spot for trout fishing, which can be a significant draw for many outdoor enthusiasts.
Practical Considerations for Your Visit
While the overall impression is positive, the reviews also point out a few practical aspects to keep in mind:
- Trailer Maneuverability: One reviewer noted, "People with trailers need to drive a little further up to turn around to have the right angle to pull in." This suggests that while trailers might be accommodated, the layout might require some extra maneuvering to get into a site. If you are planning to bring a trailer, be aware of this potential challenge.
- Fire Pit Condition: There was a comment that "Fire pits needed to be cleaned out," and specifically, "site #7 was missing the grill grate." This implies that while the sites are generally clean, it might be worth checking the condition of the fire pit at your chosen site upon arrival and being prepared if a grill grate is needed for cooking.
- Grocery Shopping: One review advises, "...the supermarket in Tellico Plains is quit a hike so load up before you get here." While there is a "country store down the road a spell," for a full grocery run, it's recommended to stock up in Tellico Plains before arriving at the campground.
- Firewood: A valuable tip from a reviewer is to "Buy wood from the guy in Green Cove. $10 for a LOT of wood (half pine/half hardwood). Way better prices than in Tellico Plains." If you plan to have campfires, this local knowledge could save you money. Green Cove is likely a nearby area worth noting for firewood purchases.
Summary of Features and Services (Based on Reviews):
- Beautiful campsites directly on the Tellico River.
- Generally clean and level campsites.
- Opportunities for trout fishing with a short walk from the campground.
- Fire pits at each site (condition may vary).
- Relatively uncrowded, at least during the early October weekend mentioned.
The reviews do not explicitly mention other amenities like restrooms, water hookups, or electric hookups. Given the small size and nature of the campground as described, it's possible these are more basic or not available at all. If these amenities are important to you, it would be wise to seek further information from official sources.
