I stayed at the campgrounds Memorial Day 2019 weekend. The campground is cozy and quiet. The camp hosts were very nice and knowledgeable about the area.I was hoping there would be a campground map but the park ranger hasn't had time to make one. The campgrounds is small and quiet. It is near the lake. They have hot FREE shower which was great and the washroom was also heated.I stayed at campsite 21, the only downside was not having two trees to hang up my hammock.Since this campground is lacking photos I took a bunch to share with future campers. - Tarfu G

Indian Creek Campground Markleeville CA Introduce

Indian Creek Campground, located on an Unnamed Road near Markleeville, CA 96120, USA, offers a serene and well-appointed camping experience within the picturesque eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. This "cozy and quiet" campground is a highly appealing option for those searching for "Camping Near Me," providing a blend of natural beauty, convenient amenities, and a wealth of outdoor activities, making it a beloved spot for campers, as evidenced by generations of families visiting this location.

  • Environment: Indian Creek Campground is nestled in a stunning natural setting with "spectacular views of the lake and surrounding Carson Mtn. Range." The elevation in the area ranges from approximately 5,600 feet at the reservoir to 6,400 feet in the surrounding foothills, offering a comfortable climate for camping. The campground is notably "Very Wooded on the West Slope," adorned with a mix of pine trees, including Ponderosa and Jeffrey pines, and sagebrush, providing ample shade and a true forest ambiance. It is situated right next to Indian Creek Reservoir, allowing for easy access to the water. Summers are generally warm and dry, with daytime temperatures occasionally reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit, but evenings are typically cool and comfortable. Sunny and dry days prevail, interspersed with periods of mid-summer thunderstorms, adding to the dramatic natural backdrop. Winter brings heavy snow and freezing temperatures, often causing the reservoir to freeze over, making it a "great 3 season location" for camping, though some hardy explorers may visit during the winter for different recreational pursuits. The presence of "seasonal wildlife with occasional Bald Eagle sightings" further enhances the natural immersive experience, making it a haven for nature lovers and photographers.

  • Services: Indian Creek Campground is well-equipped with services that enhance the comfort and convenience of its visitors, setting it apart from more rustic campgrounds. A standout feature, as highlighted by a reviewer, is the availability of "hot FREE shower which was great and the washroom was also heated." These amenities are a significant luxury in a camping environment and are widely appreciated. The campground provides flush toilets, drinking water, and trash collection, ensuring a clean and hygienic stay. Each campsite generally includes a picnic table, a fire ring (often with a grill), and a bear-proof food locker or bear box, which is essential for safe food storage in an area with wildlife. The campground offers 30 campsites, including 19 sites in an RV/tent loop suitable for recreational vehicles up to 34 feet in length or tents. Additionally, there are 10 walk-to campsites with "great views of the water," perfect for tent campers seeking a more secluded experience. Double campsites (sites 13, 14, 16, 18, 23, and 30) are also available, accommodating larger groups. Group camping for up to 40 people (tent only) is also a feature. Firewood is typically available for sale from the camp host, who is generally described as "very nice and knowledgeable about the area." Pets are allowed, but it's always advisable to adhere to specific leash laws and regulations. The campground also includes a large day-use picnic area next to the camping facilities. While the exact phone number for reservations or direct contact for the campground itself might be managed through a larger BLM office or a booking platform, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for the Indian Creek Recreation Area. General information can sometimes be obtained through the BLM Nevada State Office at (775) 861-6400 or the local BLM Carson City Field Office. Reservations are typically made through recreation.gov.

Reviews consistently praise the "beautiful" environment, the "cozy and quiet" atmosphere, and the helpfulness of the camp hosts. The occasional mention of unique wildlife sightings, such as bald eagles, further enhances its appeal as a nature destination.
