Kanawha River Campground Introduce
For local residents and travelers seeking "camping near me" in the Point Pleasant, West Virginia area, the Kanawha River Campground, located at 10758 Charleston Rd, Point Pleasant, WV 25550, USA, offers a waterfront camping experience along the scenic Kanawha River. While one reviewer from out of state noted that West Virginia campgrounds may differ from the amenity-rich RV parks they are accustomed to in the South, they found Kanawha River Campground to be "by far the most decent" option encountered. This suggests that for those familiar with the local camping scene, Kanawha River Campground stands out as a respectable choice. The owner is also highlighted as "absolutely amazing" and a "very nice guy," indicating a welcoming and positive management presence.
The primary draw of Kanawha River Campground appears to be its location directly on the Kanawha River. According to a reviewer whose relative owns a camp nearby, the sunsets from this area are "amazing" due to the riverfront setting. This picturesque environment offers the potential for beautiful views and a tranquil atmosphere, making it appealing for local users seeking a relaxing "camping near me" experience with natural beauty.
The proximity to the Kanawha River also provides opportunities for water-related activities. The nearby private camp (not part of Kanawha River Campground but in the same vicinity) features docks for dropping boats, kayaks, or any water toys, as well as docks for swimming off of or fishing. While these specific amenities are associated with the neighboring private camp, their presence suggests that similar water access and activities might be available or easily accessible from Kanawha River Campground itself. Local users interested in boating, kayaking, swimming, or fishing as part of their "camping near me" experience should inquire about the direct access to the river and any related facilities at Kanawha River Campground.
The reviewer also mentioned the unique experience of observing "huge boats pushing fuel" on the river. This industrial aspect of the river traffic might be of interest to some visitors, offering a glimpse into the working waterway. However, kayakers should be aware that the waves from these large vessels can be significant, requiring effort to navigate. The reviewer noted that mornings and evenings are the best times to be on the water, likely due to calmer conditions.
While the first reviewer mentioned that the campground "could use some work especially for the price" and that they are accustomed to more amenities at similar-priced RV parks elsewhere (such as a gym, swimming pool, hot tubs, and a theater room), they also stated that they have "no complaints," they "like it," and they "will stay at this part." This indicates that despite the absence of resort-style amenities, Kanawha River Campground offers a satisfactory experience, likely due to its location, the friendliness of the owner, and perhaps other basic comforts.
The second reviewer, while not having stayed directly at Kanawha River Campground (which they identify as being on the left side after crossing tracks), provides valuable information about the general area and the amenities available at a nearby private camp. This camp, located on the right side, features a bathhouse, a cooking area with good food, a playset for kids, and areas to ride golf carts. While these amenities are not explicitly stated to be part of Kanawha River Campground, their presence in the immediate vicinity suggests that basic facilities like a bathhouse might also be available at Kanawha River Campground, aligning with the first reviewer's comment about the expectation of such facilities at RV parks. Local users should specifically inquire about the availability and condition of a bathhouse and any other mentioned amenities at Kanawha River Campground itself.
The proximity of Kanawha River Campground to the Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant is also highlighted. The reviewer whose relative has a nearby camp mentioned that it is just minutes away. This makes Kanawha River Campground a potentially convenient accommodation option for local users and visitors attending this popular annual event. Its location relative to local attractions can be a significant factor for those seeking "camping near me" with access to area events.
Based on the available reviews, Kanawha River Campground offers a set of core services and features, primarily centered around its riverfront location and a welcoming atmosphere. While it may not have the extensive amenities of some resort-style RV parks, it appears to provide a decent and satisfactory camping experience, particularly for those who value waterfront access and a friendly owner. Potential services and features include:
- **Riverfront Access:** Direct or very close access to the Kanawha River, offering scenic views and potential for water-related activities.
- **Boat Docks (Potential):** Given the presence of docks at a nearby camp, it is possible that Kanawha River Campground also offers docking facilities for boats and other watercraft. This should be confirmed directly.
- **Fishing and Swimming (Potential):** The riverfront location may allow for fishing and swimming, although safety and designated areas should be inquired about.
- **Basic Amenities:** While not explicitly detailed, the expectation of a bathhouse from one reviewer suggests that basic restroom and possibly shower facilities are available.
- **Friendly Owner/Management:** The owner is consistently described as amazing and very nice, indicating a positive and helpful service experience.
- **Proximity to Local Attractions:** Its location is convenient for accessing the Mothman Festival and likely other attractions in the Point Pleasant area.

Kanawha River Campground Reviews
It's not bad. I'm from the south and I'm working a job up here in West Virginia and we are used to RV parks / resorts that have a lot of amenities including a bathhouse. When I got to West Virginia all the campgrounds is run down and I don't want to stay at any of them. I found this one and it is by far the most decent. It could use some work especially for the price. I normally stay in RV park at that price they have a gym swimming pool hot tubs theater room all kinds of stuff LOL. But I have no complaints I like it and I will stay at this part plus the owner is absolutely amazing very nice guy
Mar 30, 2025 · Kenny MecomI have never stay at the campground but my husband's uncle owes a camp on the right side from the campground on the left side. But they have a bath house, place they cook with some good food and playset for kids, areas to ride your golf cart. Docks to drop the boats, kayaks or any water toy & docks to swim off of or fish. Now the sunsets are amazing cause you are right on the river, you will see huge boats pushing fuel and if you are on kayaks, even if a boat goes by, they do not care, you have to keep fighting the waves off them. Soon you get out of 1 here comes 2 more but best times are mornings or evenings. I love going to his uncles camp that's not in this campground, this campground is on left side after cross tracks and his camp is on right and the ones on right are private owed. Can't wait to go back up there for the Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant cause its just minutes away.
Aug 14, 2023 · RS GangGreat spot with a beautiful view on the water. The host was easy to get ahold of too! And we were able to get firewood from a friendly veteran for our fire pit. The only complaint - the bath house was filthy and out of toilet paper.
Nov 10, 2024 · Lydia klopfensteinGreat campground. Full hookup. Level gravel site. Mostly seasonal campers but everyone was friendly. We loved being on the lake by our campfire. Was very peaceful. If ever returning to this area, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again! Stay in a 30’ TT.
Jun 22, 2020 · Misty MyersThis rural campground houses full time friendly residents and seasonal campers with full hook-up sites. We keep and visit ours here all year around. They have a restaurant, Stewart's on the River, a deli and grocery with ice, fire wood, etc on site. Stewart's has home cooked meals, comfort foods, baked goods, and more. They have a local Campground Activities Group who schedules activities for kids and adults alike. Karaoke, Pot lucks, Cook outs, Trick or treat, 4th of July activities, and more..
