Kings Canyon Rv Resort & Campground Introduce
For adventurers and nature enthusiasts searching for "Camping Near Me" in the vicinity of California's magnificent Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, Kings Canyon RV Resort & Campground offers a welcoming and strategically located base. Situated at 67751 Kings Canyon Rd, Hume, CA 93628, USA, this resort and campground provides a distinct camping experience, balancing essential amenities with a deep immersion in the natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada.
Kings Canyon RV Resort & Campground is ideally positioned on Highway 180, approximately 16 miles past the Sequoia-Kings Canyon Park entrance, and about 15-20 minutes from the North entrance to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. This prime location places it conveniently between both parks, offering campers the best access to both monumental attractions. The resort spans over 10 acres, providing a spacious and naturally integrated setting.
The environment surrounding the campground is characterized by the awe-inspiring Sierra Nevada mountains. Reviews consistently highlight the "lack of city lights and the mountains surrounding the area," which contributes to a truly "amazing" night sky, making it an exceptional spot for stargazing. The natural setting means visitors can expect to encounter local wildlife; deer are frequently seen coming through the campground, adding to the immersive nature experience.
Despite its proximity to a main road (Kings Canyon Rd), the area is noted for being "very quiet," with "not much traffic," ensuring a peaceful retreat for campers. The presence of Ten Mile Creek running through the property further enhances the tranquil and picturesque atmosphere. The elevation provides cooler temperatures, especially welcome during the summer months when lower California areas can be quite hot. The campground offers wonderful views down into the valley, with spectacular sunsets and distant city lights twinkling, adding to the scenic appeal.
Kings Canyon RV Resort & Campground provides a range of services and amenities designed to enhance the camping experience, while maintaining a rustic and natural feel. Key offerings include:
- Restrooms: The campground boasts clean bathroom facilities with flushing toilets and hot showers, a highly valued amenity for campers, particularly after a day of exploring.
- Utility Hookups: The RV sites are designed to accommodate various types of rigs, including those requiring power and water hookups. This caters to a wide range of RVs and trailers.
- Water Access: Deep sinks are available for washing, which is a practical convenience for campers.
- Fuel and Provisions: A significant advantage, especially in a remote area like Kings Canyon, is the availability of a gas station and a convenience store (or similar outlet that serves "Ice cream and gas") directly on-site. This is invaluable for travelers passing through or needing to refuel before heading into the national parks, where gasoline is generally not available.
- Connectivity: While the area is known for having "no cell service," the campground offers Wi-Fi with reported speeds over 70 Mbps in many places. This allows for essential connectivity, including teleworking, though it's important to manage expectations for high-bandwidth activities like streaming.
- Recreational Gear: The campground reportedly allows guests to borrow kayaks, gear, or blankets on-site, enhancing access to nearby water activities.
The staff is consistently described as "very friendly," contributing to a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. The fact that it is a "family owned and operated" establishment further enhances the personal and attentive service guests can expect.
Kings Canyon RV Resort & Campground offers diverse camping options to suit different preferences:
- RV Sites: These are the recommended option for those with RVs and trailers, offering drive-in access and utility hookups. The sites are well-maintained and provide ample space for various rig sizes.
- Tent Sites: It is crucial for tent campers to note that the "tent sites are NOT drive in." This means campers will need to carry their gear a short distance to their designated tent spot. Given this, some reviews explicitly recommend getting an RV site even for tent camping if direct vehicle access is desired.
- Dispersed Sites: While not explicitly stated as "dispersed camping" in the traditional sense, the "well spaced" nature of the sites and the relatively quiet environment lend a sense of privacy and separation, appealing to those who prefer a less crowded camping experience.
- Views: Many sites offer "wonderful views down into the valley," providing scenic backdrops for camping.
Each campsite is generally equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring for cooking and campfires, subject to fire restrictions. Given the location within a natural habitat, it is advisable to inquire about bear locker availability or bring bear-resistant food storage, as is common practice in areas adjacent to national parks.
While explicit promotional offers are not detailed, the campground's appeal comes from its unique combination of location, services, and positive customer experiences. The ability to find available spots even without a reservation on a busy weekend, as noted by one traveler, suggests a level of accessibility that can be a major advantage, especially during peak seasons when national park campgrounds are often fully booked. This makes it an excellent choice for last-minute trips.
Customer reviews serve as the primary promotional insight, highlighting several key advantages:
- Quiet and Peaceful: Repeated emphasis on the "quiet" nature of the campground, despite being near the road, creates a relaxing atmosphere.
- Cleanliness: The cleanliness of the bathrooms is a significant positive, indicating a well-maintained facility.
- Stargazing Opportunities: The lack of light pollution provides an "amazing night sky," making it a memorable experience for campers.
- Wildlife Sightings: Regular deer sightings enhance the natural appeal.
- Friendly Staff: The "family owned and operated" nature translates into "very friendly staff," fostering a welcoming environment.
- Convenience: The on-site gas and ice cream are praised as a major convenience for travelers in a remote area.
- Strategic Location: Its position as a "jumping-off spot to explore the park" (both Kings Canyon and Sequoia) is a significant draw, allowing easy day trips to major attractions like Grant Grove.
This campground is not just a place to stay but a part of the adventure. Visitors can access hiking trails, explore three cascading waterfalls, and find climbing routes. It is also close to Shaver Lake (7 minutes away) for fishing and skiing at China Peak, as well as Mono Hotsprings and Mammoth Pools. The property itself holds historical significance, with paths where Nuimmu hunters, Gold Rush dreamers, and Louis L'Amour's heroes once tread.
In conclusion, Kings Canyon RV Resort & Campground offers a compelling option for those seeking "Camping Near Me" in the Sequoia and Kings Canyon region. Its unique blend of a quiet, natural environment, practical amenities like clean facilities and on-site fuel, and a friendly, family-owned atmosphere makes it a highly recommended choice for RV and tent campers looking for a memorable and convenient base to explore these iconic national parks. Always remember to check for current availability and any specific requirements before your visit, especially during peak travel times.

Kings Canyon Rv Resort & Campground Reviews
Nice campground, bathroom was clean and the area was very quiet. The tent sites are NOT drive in which I couldn’t tell from the map, I definitely recommend just getting an RV site. Close to the road but not much traffic. Night sky was amazing! Lots of deer coming though. No cell service.
Sep 21, 2024 · Meg McCarthyFound this awesome place while heading towards Cedar Grove. We didn’t have a reservation but they had a few spots left for the night. Coming on a weekend everything was sold out but when you find a place like this you don’t hesitate to stop for the night. The lack of city lights and the mountains surrounding the area makes it a great place to star gaze. It is family owned and operated and very friendly staff. I saved this place for future travels.Oh and they serve Ice cream and gas in case you are just passing through.
Jul 10, 2021 · Fernando MendozaIt's definitely has its own character. Very secluded and it's privately owned. Great host 👏 If you want to stay away from the crowed this place will give you that edge of likeness. There is gas and ICE CREAM and ohhhh WIFI 😂 🧊😳 It's also not that far from cavern cave. Will definitely stay here again!
Jul 10, 2021 · Agnes MendozaEasy to find and book! We got site 6, right by the road but it quiets down at night. Nice for a rest in between Sequoia and Kings, especially because we made stops to Hume lake in between the journey. If kings canyon campsites get booked up (like we ran into) this isn’t too far a drive from the park, and since it uses ‘hipcamp’ to book it seems like it stays more under the radar from the crowds, works for booking last minute. The site across from us was empty all night while the camps in Kings was booked solid. Porta potty, but like I said it’s good for one night. Also across the way at the RV section they offer cocktails and ice cream!
Jun 22, 2022 · Heather MThis place is a hole. No one is here to help you, the bathrooms are disgusting. No one in cleaning or maintaining the property.
