Lake Marjory State Forest Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" that offers a more rustic, off-grid experience with the convenience of accessibility, Lake Marjory State Forest Campground, located at Old US Hwy 27 S, Frederic, MI 49733, USA, presents an interesting option. Reviews from fellow campers provide insights into its environment, services, and features, painting a picture of a straightforward camping spot with lake access.
Under the platform category of "camping near me," Lake Marjory State Forest Campground caters to those who appreciate a less developed camping setting. One reviewer described it as "great for those that prefer being off grid," highlighting its appeal for individuals looking to disconnect. The convenience of being "extremely convenient to the interstate highway" is also noted, making it an easily accessible location for local travelers or those passing through.
The environment of Lake Marjory State Forest Campground has both its positives and negatives, according to visitor feedback. On the downside, one reviewer mentioned "minimal vegetation to provide privacy between campsites," which might be a consideration for those seeking a more secluded experience. Additionally, the proximity to the interstate highway "equates to a lack of solitude, at least at most hours of the day and night," as highway traffic noise can be audible. However, another camper noted, "You could hear highway traffic off in the distance but it wasnt anything that was a too bad," suggesting the noise level might be tolerable for some.
Despite these considerations, the campground boasts a significant natural feature: "There is a path down to the lake as well." This lake access enhances the appeal for those who enjoy lakeside activities or simply the beauty of a natural water body. The "Nice little camping spot" description from one reviewer further suggests a pleasant overall environment, particularly for those comfortable with a more basic setup.
In terms of services, Lake Marjory State Forest Campground offers a more primitive camping experience. Reviewers noted "2 clean out houses" (latrines) and "a hand pump for water." One visitor mentioned that "the water pump was bagged and out of order" during their visit, but the DNR was providing bottled water as a temporary solution. This highlights the off-grid nature of the campground, where amenities are basic. However, the presence of clean outhouses is a plus. The availability of a hand pump for water (though its operational status might vary) suggests a potential water source on-site, though campers should likely come prepared with their own water, especially given the reported issue.
Features of Lake Marjory State Forest Campground include practical elements for camping: "Each spot has a picnic table and fire ring." These are standard and valuable amenities for any camping experience, providing convenience for meals and campfires. The mention of "a couple spots for larger RVs" indicates that while it leans towards a more rustic feel, the campground can also accommodate some recreational vehicles. The first-come, first-served policy, as noted by a visitor who found only one site occupied on a Saturday afternoon, means that "Prospective campers shouldn't encounter any issue finding an open site" and there is "no need for advance reservations," which can be convenient for spontaneous trips.
No specific promotional information was mentioned in the reviews. As a state forest campground, fees might apply, and it would be advisable for local users to check the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website or contact them at the provided phone number, (989) 732-5485 or +1 989-732-5485, for any information regarding camping fees or potential seasonal offers.
In summary, for local users seeking "camping near me" that offers an off-grid experience with lake access in the Frederic, MI area, Lake Marjory State Forest Campground is a viable option. It provides basic amenities like clean outhouses, picnic tables, and fire rings, with some sites suitable for larger RVs. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis. While there is highway noise due to its proximity to the interstate and minimal privacy between sites, its convenience and access to Lake Marjory make it a "nice little camping spot," particularly for those comfortable with a more rustic setting. Remember to check the status of the water pump and consider bringing your own water as a precaution.

Minimal vegetation to provide privacy between campsites, but extremely convenient to the interstate highway. The adjacent highway also equates to a lack of solitude, at least at most hours of the day and night. The water pump was bagged and out of order when we visited, though it appeared the DNR was providing gallon containers of bottled water for campers until the well could be fixed.Only one site was occupied when we stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. Prospective campers shouldn't encounter any issue finding an open site. Everything here is first come first served with no need for advance reservations.

Sep 16, 2019 · Sonya in MichiganNo power quiet campground close to I-75 it didn't bother us and we live 12 miles north of there.. Good place for a cheap getaway.. Lake access but private lake so you could bring kayaks or fish from shore.. Nice place go go on a budget..
Aug 09, 2021 · Thomas AbramczykNice spot when your traveling and just need a good spot to camp. A 24' camper should fit well in this campground but not much larger. Easy access to the freeway and a nice store 3/4 of a mile away!
Oct 18, 2020 · Douglas McClewIt's a nice little rustic campground. The lake is small, but I have caught some nice fish out of it.
