Lazy D Campground Introduce
If you're a local resident in Minnesota searching for "camping near me" and seeking a destination packed with activities for the whole family, Lazy D Campground, located at 18748 County Rd 39, Altura, MN 55910, USA, might be worth considering. You can reach them at (507) 932-3098 or their mobile number, +1 507-932-3098, for inquiries and reservations.
Based on recent customer feedback, Lazy D Campground appears to offer a diverse range of recreational opportunities, particularly appealing to families with children. One reviewer described their experience as "phenomenal," highlighting several fun activities that their kids thoroughly enjoyed. These included tubing down the river, playing volleyball and basketball, and swimming in what they described as a "pristine pool." These amenities suggest that Lazy D Campground aims to provide a lively and engaging environment for active families looking to stay entertained during their camping trip.
A unique feature of Lazy D Campground, as mentioned by the positive reviewer, is a farm with various animals, including zebras, cows, and horses. The opportunity for children to see and even ride these animals appears to be a significant attraction, creating memorable experiences for young visitors. The reviewer also commended the owner for being "very personable and friendly," suggesting a welcoming and positive interaction with the campground management.
However, it's important to consider another recent review that presents a contrasting perspective and highlights some potential drawbacks. This reviewer reported issues with the office staff being "overloaded" and cited an instance of disorganization regarding reservations and deposits. They were initially told they didn't have spots, only to later be questioned about unpaid deposits that they had already paid. This suggests that communication and organization within the office might be areas needing improvement.
Furthermore, this reviewer raised concerns about the pricing structure for certain activities. While they acknowledged that paying per child and per adult was acceptable, they found the additional cost for river tubing to be excessive. At $12 per person per day for a family of five, the cost amounted to $120, and they reported that the campground did not even have enough tubes available, leading to long wait times. They also noted the lack of a discount for those who brought their own tubes, which they found frustrating.
Another disappointment for this reviewer was the limited availability of horseback riding, as it was fully booked, preventing them from even participating in this activity. Additionally, they expressed dissatisfaction with the campground allowing outside community members to use the facilities, which resulted in overcrowding of popular areas like the pool and the tubing area. This influx of non-campground guests detracted from their family's enjoyment and contributed to their decision not to return.
Considering these two recent reviews, Lazy D Campground appears to offer a wide array of engaging activities and a potentially enjoyable environment for families, particularly those with young children who would appreciate the pool, sports facilities, and the petting zoo. The friendly demeanor of the owner, as mentioned in one review, could also contribute to a positive experience. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues with office organization, the additional costs for activities like tubing, the potential for overcrowding due to allowing outside guests, and the limited availability of certain activities like horseback riding.
For local users searching for "camping near me" with a focus on family fun and numerous on-site activities, Lazy D Campground presents an interesting option. The availability of river tubing, a swimming pool, volleyball and basketball courts, and a petting zoo with unique animals like zebras are significant draws. However, it would be prudent to inquire about the current policies regarding activity fees, tube availability, access for non-campground guests, and the booking procedures for activities like horseback riding when making a reservation. Understanding these aspects can help manage expectations and ensure a more satisfactory experience.
While the provided information does not include any specific promotional offers, the range of activities available at Lazy D Campground could be seen as part of its overall value proposition for families seeking an action-packed camping trip. To get the most up-to-date information on pricing for campsites and activities, as well as any potential discounts or packages, it is recommended to contact Lazy D Campground directly at (507) 932-3098 or +1 507-932-3098.
In conclusion, Lazy D Campground near Altura, Minnesota, offers a variety of family-friendly activities that could make it an appealing choice for local users searching for "camping near me." The presence of river tubing, a pool, sports facilities, and a unique petting zoo are significant features. However, potential guests should also be aware of the reported issues regarding office organization, additional activity fees, potential overcrowding, and limited availability of some amenities, as highlighted in recent customer feedback. A thorough inquiry with the campground management is advisable to ensure it meets the specific needs and expectations of your family's camping adventure.

Lazy D Campground Reviews
Lazy D campground was a phenomenal experience for me and my kids. There were fun activities for them to enjoy such as tubing down the river, playing volleyball and basketball, as well as splashing around in pristine pool. They also had a farm with some animals such as zebras, cows, and horses that the kids really enjoy seeing and riding. The owner was very personable and friendly to me and my family. Overall it was definitely a great experience and would recommend it to everyone.
May 31, 2023 · Israel NelsonOffice staff is overloaded. Was told we didn't have spots to then asked why we didn't pay deposits when we had all ready. Very unorganized. You pay per kiddo which is fine and per adult... then you pay for tubing at $12 per person per day.. at 5 people we paid $120 and they didn't even have enough tubes and had to wait forever. They didnt offer a discount if you had your own tube. 🙄 horseback was booked up and couldn't even get that. They allow outside community in which took up a lot of our fun in the campground with the pool (way packed) and tubing. We won't come back unfortunately.
Aug 15, 2023 · Alexandra DetermanWe were extremely disappointed. We camped on off peak days (Sunday planned to stay til Wednesday but we were just disappointed.)which you would think those days would be a better rate. If it was I would hate to see the peak rate. We stayed in a tent & I believe most of their sites are set up for some type of RV. Well either way we were in a tent & I would hope they accommodate us tent people but not at $55 a night with no specials included other than the norm or the expected. We could have gone somewhere & stayed in a motel for that, at least we would have had a nice shower, a soft bed, & breakfast. We definitely won't be back.
Sep 01, 2023 · Frederick PierceWent on an anniversary horseback ride in the morning through the campground with Barns of Old Gloy. The staff were very welcoming and warm on a cold morning! Made us feel comfortable and safe getting on our first horse back ride ever! Another guest we rode with said she has been coming consistently for 4 years, so we knew it was a quality place! Highly recommend!
Oct 10, 2022 · Corey Jeries-BardonGreat time. We had the sleeper shack. It is small and the beds are very firm. The AC was cold and the small fridge was a huge help. The campground was very nice. The horse ride was a great experience as well. We didn't tube but would like to do that next time.
