For local users in the Dawson, Texas area and surrounding regions who are searching within the 'camping near me' category for an outdoor recreational destination, Liberty Hill Park, located at 18500 FM 709, Dawson, TX 76639, USA, presents itself as a campground with both positive attributes and areas needing improvement, according to recent customer reviews. To provide an objective introduction for local users, we will analyze the feedback regarding the environment, services, and features, keeping in mind that this information is based on the experiences of other campers. Local users are encouraged to contact Liberty Hill Park directly at (254) 578-1431 or +1 254-578-1431 for the most current information and to form their own impressions.
The environment of Liberty Hill Park appears to be a significant draw for many visitors. One reviewer noted it as a "Nice big park" with features such as a "Swim beach play ground fishing boating relaxing!" and being "Great for bike riding!" This suggests that the park is situated in a location that offers access to water-based activities and recreational opportunities suitable for families and individuals alike. The presence of a swim beach and boating indicates proximity to a lake, which is a major environmental asset for a campground, providing opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and boating. The mention of a playground suggests amenities for children, and the suitability for bike riding implies open spaces or trails within the park. However, another reviewer's negative experience upon arriving after dark highlights potential issues with the park's accessibility and layout at night, mentioning a lack of signage and difficult-to-see site numbers.
In terms of services, Liberty Hill Park offers some notable positives. One reviewer specifically mentioned that the "RV sites are large with 50 amp and water," which is a significant advantage for RV campers requiring substantial power and water hookups. The presence of "Easy dump stations (2)" is also a convenience for RV users. Furthermore, the positive reviewer noted "hosts that do man the booth!" suggesting the presence of on-site staff, at least during certain times, for assistance and check-in. However, the negative review paints a different picture regarding arrival after hours, indicating a lack of assistance at the security gate and the difficulty of navigating the park in the dark due to poor signage and hard-to-see site numbers. This discrepancy suggests potential inconsistencies in service or staffing, particularly outside of standard hours. Cell service is also reported as "nonexistent," which could be a significant inconvenience for some campers needing to stay connected.
The features of Liberty Hill Park are a mix of positives and negatives according to the provided reviews. On the positive side, the "sites are well spaced" which offers a degree of privacy and room between camping areas. The availability of "50 amp service" and water at the RV sites is a key feature for RV travelers. The presence of a swim beach, playground, and opportunities for fishing, boating, and bike riding are significant recreational features that enhance the overall appeal of the park. However, the negative review highlights several significant drawbacks related to the condition and layout of the campsites. These include "tight turns," "low hanging trees," sites that are "narrow with washed out edges and very unlevel," and the presence of "trash everywhere." Additionally, a pull-through site that required backing in indicates a potential design flaw or mislabeling. The second reviewer also noted a significant issue with maintenance, stating that the "Park really needs to be mowed," suggesting that groundskeeping is lacking.
For local users searching within the 'camping near me' category, Liberty Hill Park offers the potential for a large park with lake access and recreational activities. The spacious RV sites with 50 amp service and water are definite advantages for RV owners. The presence of a swim beach, playground, and opportunities for fishing and boating could make it an attractive destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. However, local users should be aware of the reported issues with signage, site conditions (unevenness, narrowness, low-hanging trees), cleanliness (trash), and maintenance (lack of mowing). The inconsistent experiences reported in the reviews suggest that the quality of stay might vary depending on the specific site and the time of visit.
No specific promotional information is available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in camping at Liberty Hill Park should contact them directly at (254) 578-1431 or +1 254-578-1431 to inquire about current rates, availability, and any special offers or discounts that might be available, particularly for local residents or for stays during certain times of the year. It would also be prudent to ask about the specific conditions of the campsites, the availability of assistance upon arrival (especially after hours), and the status of park maintenance.
Given the mixed reviews, local users are strongly encouraged to gather more information before making a decision. This could include looking for additional reviews on other online platforms or contacting the park directly to ask specific questions about the concerns raised in the existing feedback. Understanding the current management's efforts to address the reported issues would also be beneficial. While the park appears to have potential with its lake access and spacious sites, the negative feedback regarding site conditions and maintenance should be carefully considered by local users seeking a reliable and enjoyable 'camping near me' experience.
In conclusion, Liberty Hill Park near Dawson, Texas, offers a large park setting with lake access, a swim beach, playground, and opportunities for fishing, boating, and bike riding. It also provides spacious RV sites with 50 amp service and water. However, potential drawbacks include difficulties with navigation and site access, particularly after dark, uneven and narrow campsites with potential obstructions, cleanliness issues, and a reported lack of mowing. Local users searching for 'camping near me' should weigh these factors carefully and are advised to contact Liberty Hill Park directly for the most up-to-date information and to inquire about site availability and conditions before planning their visit.

Liberty Hill Park Reviews
We arrived after dark, which this time of year is 5:30PM. They won't even let you in before 3PM. No one at the wide open security gate to help us. I had no idea where to go. No signs anywhere and the site numbers are impossible to see at night. With nonexistent cell service, we had no choice but to wander around. When we did find our site, it had tight turns, low hanging trees, narrow with washed out edges and very unlevel. There was trash everywhere. It was a pull-through but we had to actually back into it.On the plus side, the sites are well spaced and had 50amp service. With some better management and upgrades this could be a nice park. Right now this is the worst COE we have ever stayed at.
Dec 30, 2024 · Tim EnrightNice big park. Swim beach play ground fishing boating relaxing! Great for bike riding! RV sites are large with 50 amp and water. Easy dump stations (2) and hosts that do man the booth! Only downfall is a lack of mowing! Park really needs to be mowed.
Aug 27, 2024 · Pamela DillardGreat COE. EXCEPT the restroom facilities. They are disgusting and need to be torn down and new ones built. The rest of the park is beautiful! Big, but narrow sites for camping. Our 40 ft. class A motorhome fit in our site.
Apr 05, 2024 · Tamara FoxLove this campground bc sites are so spacious and well kept. The lake is great for kayaking as well as fishing. Caveat be sure to get a site with trees!
Apr 24, 2025 · Longtallthinskinny WinnieAfter exploring a few lakes in the area my family and I have come to the conclusion that Liberty Hill Park is our goto.It is in close proximity to our home, have a playground, boat ramp, camp sights for both tent and trailer camping, and a beach. We have chosen to pay the $40 year access to the park.If you are looking to escape the city, have a quick swim, or drive on your warer craft I would highly recommend trying out Liberty Hill Park. The only issues I have with this location would be that the employees at the entrance gate are not very friendly, and in the mens bathroom closest to the beach had multiple mice running around last time we went.
