I had reserved a camping spot but ran into an issue with my reservation. I was seriously worried I had driven 6 hours only to have no where to stay. Staff member Bee was amazing! Her immediate response was compassionate, understanding, and patient, which really helped to defuse a stressful moment for me. She was able to find an amazing solution for my reservation issues, and my stay as a result was awesome!Little basin campground itself is a nice hidden gem. It is a moderate sized campground with fairly extensive facilities for camping, group camping, large group events, and athletic games. Only downside was that campers were expected to all use the same communal bathroom (yes, one). The upside was that shower facilities were FREE!Lastly, I was happy to see that nearly everyone in the campground was wearing masks outside of their own sites. A HUGE improvement compared to Palomar Mountain SP, where I was pretty much the only one.Edit: I heard about the fire out there. My sincerest best wishes to out to all of the employees at Little and Big Basin, and those in the neighboring community. Best of luck to you all! - Mathew Hudnall

Little Basin Cabins & Campground Introduce

Little Basin Cabins & Campground, situated at 21700 Little Basin Rd, Boulder Creek, CA 95006, USA, is a unique and integral part of Big Basin Redwoods State Park. Operating within the "Camping Near Me" category, this campground offers a diverse range of accommodations, from traditional camping spots to cabins, and caters to various groups including families, large gatherings, and educational programs. While Big Basin Redwoods State Park experienced significant impacts from the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire, Little Basin, having been historically a private retreat for Hewlett Packard employees before becoming part of the state park, is known for its extensive facilities and continues to play a vital role in the park's offerings, even amidst ongoing recovery efforts in the wider Big Basin area.

The environment at Little Basin Cabins & Campground is characterized by its setting "in the redwood forest," providing a serene and immersive natural experience. The property itself spans 534 acres and is home to "expansive meadows, pristine creeks, and vast trails." Visitors can expect to be surrounded by the majestic beauty of towering redwood trees, which offer shade and a sense of tranquility. While the broader Big Basin Redwoods State Park saw extensive fire damage, the status of specific areas within Little Basin needs to be confirmed for current conditions, as information suggests some facilities were severely affected. However, the presence of operational cabins and positive recent reviews indicates that the natural beauty and recreational opportunities within Little Basin remain a significant draw. The drive into the campground is described as "not rough," suggesting relatively easy access despite its secluded feel.

Little Basin Cabins & Campground offers a comprehensive suite of services and facilities. For accommodations, it provides "individual family camping sites, group campsites, and cabins." The cabins, as noted by a customer, were "more comfortable than we expected," and typically feature "8 bunk beds and a non functional portable heater," with " plenty of space between them." Essential amenities include well-maintained "restrooms and showers." A significant highlight, as per customer reviews, is that "shower facilities were FREE!" This is a notable perk for campers. The campground also features a "small gift shop/visitor center" at the entrance that "provides basic camping needs, including ice cream and firewood" (firewood availability subject to current fire restrictions). A "community kitchen equipped with a fridge, microwave, and oven" may be available, particularly for group bookings. The park also provides paved roads, water spigots, and trash and recycling containers throughout. The phone number for inquiries is (831) 338-3314 or +1 831-338-3314.

The features at Little Basin Cabins & Campground are extensive, catering to both active recreation and communal gatherings. It is described as a "moderate sized campground with fairly extensive facilities for camping, group camping, large group events, and athletic games." Recreational features include "a sports field, basketball court, sand volleyball court, disk-golf course, horseshoe rings," and a "playground structure with slides and swings." There are "miles of trails" that wind through the redwood forest, suitable for hiking and nature observation. For group events, a "recreation hall, outdoor gathering areas, and a group campfire ring" can be booked. The management, operated by United Camps, Conferences and Retreats (UCCR), a non-profit organization, emphasizes educational programs, such as those run by the WOLF School, which focuses on nature appreciation and understanding ecosystems. While a review mentioned the "downside was that campers were expected to all use the same communal bathroom (yes, one)," other sources indicate separate male and female shower houses, suggesting potential variations in facilities or a focus on accessibility in specific areas. The "Crumb Clean" campaign, aimed at preventing wildlife feeding, is also a notable feature, emphasizing environmental responsibility.

In the context of "Camping Near Me," Little Basin Cabins & Campground stands out as a versatile option that moves beyond basic tent camping. Its cabin offerings provide a comfortable "glamping" experience, making it accessible for those who prefer not to pitch a tent but still desire a natural setting. The extensive group facilities make it ideal for family reunions, school trips, and organizational retreats, a less common feature in many individual campgrounds. Its integration into Big Basin Redwoods State Park, despite the fire recovery, still provides access to a world-renowned redwood forest environment. The ability to handle reservation issues with compassionate staff, as noted in a review, indicates a strong commitment to customer service, a crucial aspect for any camping destination. Furthermore, the observation that "nearly everyone in the campground was wearing masks outside of their own sites" reflects a commitment to health and safety, which can be a reassuring feature for visitors.

Promotional information for Little Basin Cabins & Campground would highlight its "hidden gem" status and its unique combination of natural beauty and extensive amenities. The "family friendly cabins and trails" would be a key selling point, appealing to a wide demographic. The convenience of "well maintained restrooms and showers" (especially free showers!) would be emphasized. For groups, the dedicated facilities for large events and athletic games would be a significant draw. The serene "redwood forest" environment and opportunities for "nature appreciation" would also be central to the marketing message. As a California State Parks campground, it benefits from the broader appeal and trust associated with the state park system. While specific rates are not detailed, generally camping fees apply and vary by site type. The phone number (831) 338-3314 is critical for making reservations, inquiring about current park status, and understanding any specific rules or restrictions, particularly those related to the ongoing recovery of the wider Big Basin area. Check-in is at 2:00 PM and check-out is at 12:00 PM, with no alcohol or smoking allowed to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment.

Customer reviews offer valuable insights into the actual experience at Little Basin. The commendation for staff member "Bee" for "compassionate, understanding, and patient" handling of a reservation issue underscores the positive customer service. The description of the campground as a "nice hidden gem" with "fairly extensive facilities" reinforces its appeal. The feedback on the "communal bathroom" being "one" is a detail that potential campers might want to verify, though the upside of "FREE" showers is a strong positive. The mention of mask-wearing indicates an environment where community health is taken seriously. The positive remarks about the "Family friendly cabins and trails" and comfortable cabins are reassuring for those considering this accommodation type. The sincere wishes for the fire recovery effort also remind potential visitors of the ongoing restoration in the region. Overall, Little Basin Cabins & Campground presents itself as a well-equipped, family-oriented, and community-focused camping destination that continues to serve visitors amidst the recovery of its majestic redwood home within Big Basin Redwoods State Park.
