Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A Introduce
For local users in Iowa and travelers seeking camping opportunities within the 'camping near me' category near Exira, IA, Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A, located at the coordinates H646+27, Exira, IA 50076, USA, presents a location with some potentially positive aspects but also significant concerns based on recent customer feedback. While offering spacious full hookup sites and lake access, potential visitors should be aware of reported issues regarding lighting, maintenance, communication with park staff, and the condition of facilities.
The environment of Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A appears to be centered around a lake, providing "plenty of lake access for sitting and viewing the water." This suggests a scenic setting with opportunities for enjoying the waterfront. However, one reviewer noted that the lake was "too weedy for fishing from shore," which might be a disappointment for anglers seeking convenient fishing access directly from the campground. The presence of numerous trees throughout the campground is also evident from the review, although the types of trees (mulberries, walnuts, oaks, and hackberry) might lead to sap and debris on camping equipment. While trees can offer shade, the reviewer also highlighted "numerous trees with a lot of widow makers or low hanging branches" posing a risk to RVs and travel trailers both on the campsites and the campground roads.
One of the potentially positive features mentioned is that the "full hookup sites were spacious and pretty level with plenty of room between." This could be appealing to RV owners who value ample space and relatively even ground for parking and setup. Full hookups typically include electricity, water, and sewer connections, which are a significant convenience for RV camping. However, the reviewer also noted that the "water and electric are shared and are helter skelter everywhere," implying a potentially disorganized or inconvenient arrangement that might require "plenty of extra hose and electric cord" to reach the connections. Additionally, the sewer hookup was described as being "located behind under the trailer and very inconvenient to reach and hook into," requiring the use of two sewer hoses in one instance.
Several significant concerns were raised regarding the services and maintenance of the campground. The "campground light poles were not functional," resulting in the only light source being at the restroom. This lack of general lighting throughout the campground could pose safety and convenience issues for campers navigating at night. Furthermore, the restroom itself was described as "smelly all the time, walls and floors filthy and full of spiders and bugs." This suggests a lack of adequate cleaning and maintenance, which is a serious concern for the comfort and hygiene of campers. The reviewer also noted that "the only shower facility we found in the entire park was at the beach for lake rinse off after swimming," implying a lack of dedicated shower facilities within the campground itself, which is a significant drawback for many campers.
Communication and management also appear to be areas of concern. The reviewer stated that "park staff are not available to ask questions as we called the office several times with no answer. We left a message but nobody returned our call." This lack of responsiveness from the management can be frustrating for campers needing assistance or information. The absence of a designated place to put a camp paid and reserved receipt also suggests a lack of clear organizational procedures, requiring campers to keep the receipt with their unit.
Maintenance issues extend beyond the restrooms. The reviewer noted that "grass is kept way too long so it is buggy, sappy from trees and very wet." Overgrown grass can indeed attract insects and make the camping experience less pleasant. The presence of "widow makers or low hanging branches" on numerous trees poses a potential hazard to vehicles and campers moving around the campground.
Another point of confusion was the presence of vacant sites with tarps or chairs on them, leading the reviewer to assume they were taken and paid for, especially given the lack of communication with park staff to confirm. This lack of clear site marking or management presence can lead to uncertainty and potential disputes among campers.
In terms of connectivity, the reviewer reported that "cell service and TV reception was nil," which could be a significant drawback for those who rely on these services for communication or entertainment during their camping trip. This lack of connectivity might be less of an issue for those seeking a complete disconnect, but it's an important factor to consider for others.
Promotional information is absent from the provided review, and given the numerous negative aspects highlighted, it is unlikely that there are any current promotions being advertised based on this feedback. Local users would need to seek information from other sources or directly from the managing authority (if contact can be established) to inquire about any potential improvements or positive changes at the campground.
Overall, while Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A offers spacious full hookup sites and access to a lake environment, the recent customer experience outlined in the review raises significant concerns regarding the maintenance of facilities (restrooms, showers), grounds (grass, trees), lighting, management responsiveness, and connectivity. The discrepancy between the potential of the location (lake access, spacious sites) and the reported conditions suggests that local users searching for 'camping near me' should proceed with caution and seek more up-to-date information or consider alternative campgrounds in the Exira, IA area until these issues are addressed. The concluding remark from the reviewer, "Overall the park looks good untill you try to camp there. We will not be back," serves as a strong caution for prospective visitors.

Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A Reviews
Full hookup sites were spacious and pretty level with plenty of room between. Campground light poles were not functional so the only light was at the restroom. There is no place to put a camp paid and reserved receipt anywhere so bring your unit with you. There were some sites that were vacant but had a tarp or chair in them, so we assumed those were taken and paid for? Park staff are not available to ask questions as we called the office several times with no answer. We left a message but nobody returned our call. Grass is kept way too long so it is buggy, sappy from trees and very wet. There are numerous trees with a lot of widow makers or low hanging branches that we could not get under without scraping the top of our travel trailer in the campsites as well as on the roads in the campgrounds. Most of the trees were not what you want to park under: mulberries, walnuts, oaks and hackberry. Be prepared to have plenty of extra hose and electric cord as water and electric are shared and are helter skelter everywhere! Sewer is located behind under the trailer and very inconvenient to reach and hook into, we needed 2 sewer hoses. Restroom was smelly all the time, walls and floors filthy and full of spiders and bugs. The only shower facility we found in the entire park was at the beach for lake rinse off after swimming. Plenty of lake access for sitting and viewing the water but too weedy for fishing from shore. Cell service and TV reception was nil. Overall the park looks good untill you try to camp there. We will not be back.😕
