Lizard Creek Campground Introduce
Are you seeking a peaceful and intimate "camping near me" experience, away from the crowded tourist spots? Lizard Creek Campground, nestled in the breathtaking landscapes near Moran, Wyoming, offers a rustic and tranquil escape for nature enthusiasts. Located at Lizard Creek Rd, Moran, WY 83013, USA, this campground provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of the region, with close proximity to Grand Teton National Park. If you value serenity, wildlife encounters, and picturesque lakeshore views, Lizard Creek Campground might be the perfect destination for your next camping adventure.
Based on feedback from fellow campers, Lizard Creek Campground is characterized by its small and intimate atmosphere. Unlike larger, more developed campgrounds, Lizard Creek offers a sense of seclusion and tranquility. Many campsites boast exceptional privacy, particularly those situated along the lakeshore. Imagine waking up to the gentle lapping of water against the shore and enjoying your morning coffee surrounded by the peaceful ambiance of nature. The quiet and respectful atmosphere reported by visitors suggests a campground where you can truly unwind and reconnect with the natural world.
While specific details about all services might require direct inquiry via phone at (307) 543-2831 or mobile at +1 307-543-2831, we can gather some insights from camper reviews. A notable advantage mentioned is the presence of flush toilets in the bathrooms, a convenience that can enhance the camping experience for many. However, it's important to note that the campground currently does not offer shower or laundry facilities. This is a crucial consideration for those planning longer stays or prioritizing these amenities. If you prefer campgrounds with these services, you might need to explore other options in the vicinity. However, for those seeking a more rustic and secluded experience, the lack of these facilities might be a worthwhile trade-off for the peace and natural beauty offered.
One of the standout features of Lizard Creek Campground, according to visitor accounts, is the abundant wildlife. While specific encounters can never be guaranteed, there have been reports of bears frequenting the campground. This highlights the importance of adhering strictly to all rules regarding food storage and campsite cleanliness to ensure the safety of both campers and wildlife. The presence of bears, along with various birds and other creatures, offers a unique opportunity for wildlife viewing in their natural habitat. For nature photographers and wildlife enthusiasts, this could be a significant draw.
The location of Lizard Creek Campground, while offering a more secluded experience, is noted to be a farther drive from some of the main attractions in the Grand Teton area. However, several reviewers emphasize that this extra travel is well worth it for the tranquility and natural beauty the campground provides. If you prioritize peace and quiet over immediate proximity to every major landmark, the slightly more remote location of Lizard Creek Campground could be a significant advantage. It offers a chance to escape the crowds often found in more centrally located campgrounds and enjoy a more authentic wilderness experience.
The rustic setting of Lizard Creek Campground is further emphasized by the reported cleanliness of the bathrooms, which some visitors felt could be improved. While the presence of flush toilets is a plus, maintaining a pristine environment in a natural setting can be challenging. It's important to have realistic expectations about the level of facilities in a more remote campground and to come prepared with personal hygiene items and a willingness to embrace a more natural camping experience.
Considering the positive feedback regarding the intimate atmosphere, private lakeshore sites, and opportunities for wildlife viewing, Lizard Creek Campground appears to cater to a specific type of camper – one who values tranquility, natural beauty, and a more rustic experience over extensive amenities and immediate access to all tourist hotspots. The soothing sounds of the lake, the privacy of the campsites, and the chance to observe wildlife create a unique and memorable camping experience.

Its intimate size, private lakeshore sites, and opportunities for wildlife encounters create a unique and tranquil camping experience. Lizard Creek Campground Reviews
Pros: Very small/intimate, quiet, lakeshore sites offer the best privacy, bathrooms have flush toiletsCons: Farther drive to get to destinations— but it’s worth it! No shower or laundry facilities — could be an issue for some. Our 5 day stay at Lizard Creek was so delightful! Our campsite was very private; couldn’t see it from the road, everyone camping there was quiet and respectful, it felt like you had the place to yourself. The views are gorgeous. Listening to the water hit the shore is so soothing. Bears tend to visit the campground every day but they aren’t a bother. Follow all the rules for food storage and campsite cleanliness! We spent a few days camping in Yellowstone at Canyon Village where you are stacked like cordwood with zero privacy, having to listen to generators running, dogs barking, kids screaming/crying. It sucked! We cannot wait to camp at Lizard Creek again someday!
Aug 23, 2024 · Laura A.Substantially north of most of the fanfare of the Tetons this off the beaten path campground provides a much more rustic setting. There are no showers on site no laundry and the bathroom. Cleanliness leaves a little bit to be desired. However, seeing wildlife is your thing, we did have a bear roaming the campground when I was there, and there were plenty of birds and other creatures to enjoy.
Jul 11, 2024 · Claire DrawePerfect location for visiting the quieter end of the park. The campsite was lovely and the camp hosts were the kindest I've yet encountered! It was a lovely stay. Water and restrooms well placed throughout camp.We were in site 18 and loved it. Only downside was that it didn't have much privacy from site 17 and parking was a bit tight in our van. Next time I'd choose site 15. That being said, the fire ring and tent site were placed nicely to give the most privacy possible.Easy walk down to the lake, with a big step off of a social trial to get down to it. Absolutely beautiful if your mobility is pretty good! Even had cell signal in some places.
Aug 29, 2023 · Ann RichmondThis is a National Park Service Campground so is very basic and lots of rules to protect the environment. Located in the Grand Tetons it's a wonderful place to camp and see Yellowstone as well as the Grand Tetons!
Sep 08, 2024 · Rosemary AndersonWe stayed at site 10. The bear box was quite large and the fire pit was in great working condition. The restrooms have flush toilets and running water sinks - they were cleaned regularly and well stocked. There is an inlet to Jackson Lake for fishing/paddle boats at the campground. The closest camp stores are in Colter Bay (S) and the Flagg Ranch (N). Yellowstone NP and Jackson, WY are each about an hour away. Everything in Jackson is pricey. We went the third week in June and it got down into the 20s at night and snowed - be sure to check the weather and bring appropriate clothing!I absolutely plan on coming back sometime in the future!!
