Log Lake Campground Introduce
Looking for an affordable "camping near me" option in Northern Michigan with access to a clean lake and various recreational activities? Log Lake Campground in Kalkaska, MI, might be just the place for you. While some aspects of the campground are described as older and in need of updates, its prime location near a beautiful lake and the availability of amenities like a disc golf course and baseball field make it a noteworthy consideration for local campers, especially those on a budget.
Despite some of the infrastructure being dated, Log Lake Campground appears to offer a welcoming environment. One reviewer fondly recalled enjoying their stay even during rainy weather over a holiday weekend, highlighting the overall appeal of the location. They even shared a heartwarming anecdote about their granddaughter learning to ride her bike at the campground, suggesting a family-friendly atmosphere and safe spaces for such activities.
The campsites themselves are described as "all dirt and kind of stumpy," which is important for potential visitors to note. This rustic ground surface might require careful consideration when setting up tents or parking RVs. However, the campground does seem capable of accommodating larger vehicles, as one reviewer successfully parked their "42 foot 5th wheel in back." The small size of the campground is also mentioned, which could contribute to a quieter and more intimate camping experience, depending on individual preferences.
While one review frankly states that "everything is old and needs to be updated," this is balanced by the positive feedback regarding the natural features and some of the available services. It suggests that while the aesthetic and infrastructure might be basic, the core camping experience and access to recreation are still valuable.
One of the most significant highlights of Log Lake Campground is undoubtedly the lake itself. Described as "very clean and perfect temperature," Log Lake appears to be an ideal spot for swimming, fishing, and simply enjoying the water. The proximity of the campsites to the lake is also a major plus. According to one reviewer, the walk from the furthest site is approximately 50 yards, and only about 20 yards from the tent spots, making it easily accessible for all campers.
In terms of services, Log Lake Campground offers basic but essential amenities. There is 30 amp electrical service available, which is crucial for many RV campers. Additionally, the campground provides water for filling up upon arrival and septic service, although these hookups are not available directly at the individual campsites. This means RVers will need to plan accordingly for water and waste management during their stay. There is also a shower house on the premises, offering a convenient way for campers to freshen up.
For recreational activities beyond the lake, Log Lake Campground boasts some appealing features. Directly across the street, campers can enjoy a disc golf course, providing a fun and engaging activity for all ages. Additionally, there is a "huge baseball field" available, suggesting opportunities for playing ball games or simply enjoying open green space. For pet owners, the presence of "walking trails for dogs" is a significant benefit, allowing for easy exercise and enjoyment of the outdoors with furry companions.
The campground also has a small playground, which, despite its size, offers a dedicated space for children to play. The presence of an office suggests that there is on-site management available for assistance and check-in.
Perhaps one of the most attractive features for budget-conscious local campers is the affordability of Log Lake Campground. The current rate is mentioned as "$25 a night," making it a very economical option compared to many other campgrounds. However, it's important to note that a potential price increase is on the horizon, as the reviewer mentioned, "next year they will update so I’m sure it will go up." This suggests that now might be a great time to experience Log Lake Campground at its current low rate before any planned improvements and subsequent price adjustments.
For local users searching within the "camping near me" category, Log Lake Campground offers a budget-friendly option with direct access to a clean and inviting lake. The availability of 30 amp service, water and septic service (at the entrance), a shower house, a disc golf course, a baseball field, and dog walking trails provides a range of amenities and recreational opportunities. While the campground is described as older with dirt campsites, its affordability and access to desirable features like the lake make it a viable choice, especially for those prioritizing budget and recreational activities over modern facilities.
In conclusion, Log Lake Campground in Kalkaska, MI, presents an affordable camping option for local residents seeking lake access and recreational activities. Despite being described as older with basic dirt campsites and limited on-site hookups, its clean lake, disc golf course, baseball field, dog trails, and shower house offer value for the price. The friendly atmosphere, as suggested by the positive experiences shared even during inclement weather, adds to its appeal. For budget-minded campers looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors and lake life, Log Lake Campground is worth considering, especially with the potential for future price increases following planned updates. Take advantage of the current low rates and enjoy a classic Northern Michigan camping experience!

Log Lake Campground Reviews
loved the campground. Even though it rained most of the 4th holiday this year, we still enjoyed the place and my grand daughter learned to ride her bike this weekend as well.

Jul 22, 2022 · Brent LittleI had a lot going on so I didn't get put everything on the back burner. It rained on and off for a couple of days. The people running the place were new and still learning how stuff worked. Some of the rules are a bit much but that the trial lawyers fault. I can just imagine what it cost for liability insurance to run a place like that. Good luck ...
Jul 16, 2023 · John YacksWe stayed 3 days a this campground and our first day we couldn’t shower because there were no tokens available for purchase 10 mins before closing campground office. After a long drive we were hoping to shower. Second day after speaking with campground manager he stated he only had 20 tokens for the whole campground. For our group of 25 people we could only get 4 tokens. Luckily, on our last day we were able to purchase 15 tokens. Restrooms were cleaned daily however not enough toilet paper we had to purchase our own.
