Lone Pine Introduce
For those in the Julian, California area seeking "Camping Near Me" with access to Lake Cuyamaca, Lone Pine Campground, located at 15027 CA-79, Julian, CA 92036, presents a camping option with partial hookups and proximity to the lake. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground itself has received mixed feedback regarding its aesthetics, but the overall experience at the lake, including fishing and scenic beauty, appears to be a draw for many visitors.
The environment around Lone Pine Campground is characterized by its location near Lake Cuyamaca, which is praised for its "beautiful scenery." While one reviewer described Lone Pine Campground as "perhaps the ugliest CG I've ever been to," noting that it consists of "8 spots on gravel right next to each other," the natural beauty of the lake and its surroundings still holds appeal. The proximity to the lake allows for easy access to lakeside activities and views. There is a trail that is believed to go all the way around the lake, offering opportunities for scenic walks and enjoying the natural landscape. The night skies are also mentioned as "beautiful," suggesting that the area offers excellent stargazing opportunities due to potentially low light pollution.
In terms of services, Lone Pine Campground offers "partial hookups," and the price for these is considered "right" by one reviewer, indicating affordability for the amenities provided. The availability of hookups typically includes electricity and water, which can be a significant advantage for RV campers. Fishing is a key activity at Lake Cuyamaca, with a daily fee of $8. The lake is reported to contain bass, bluegill, crappie, and trout, although fishing is noted to be "SLOW" during the warmer months, regardless of what tackle shops might suggest. Shore fishing is permitted along almost the entire lake. There are specific regulations regarding boating; while other boats are allowed after inspection, inflatable kayaks were reportedly not permitted for lake access by one visitor. Boat rentals are available for those without their own inspected boats. Swimming or wading in the water is apparently not allowed.
Lone Pine Campground's features are somewhat limited based on the reviews. The primary feature is its access to Lake Cuyamaca for fishing and the surrounding area for its natural beauty. The presence of a trail that potentially circumnavigates the lake is another significant feature for those who enjoy hiking and exploring. The availability of partial hookups caters specifically to RV campers seeking basic utility connections. While the campground itself is described unfavorably in terms of aesthetics by one reviewer, its functionality and price point for those needing hookups seem to be a consideration. The beautiful night skies offer an additional feature for astronomy enthusiasts.

Lone Pine Reviews
I'll start this by saying that there are two campgrounds...I stayed in Lone Pine CG - and it is perhaps the ugliest CG I've ever been to. 8 spots on gravel right next to each other...probably took a half a day to grade the whole CG. The other CG (Chambers) didn't seem much nicer...I'm not a fan of parking lot CG's. But...I still like it here at the lake. The price is right for partial hookups. It's $8 per day to fish. I have an inflatable kayak that they would NOT let me put in the lake. Other boats are okay if you get them inspected first, and there are rentals available. There's bass, bluegill, crappie and trout, but in the warmer months the fishing is SLOW no matter what they tell you at the tackle shop. I did catch three bass in one day, but they totaled a pound. There's a trail that I think goes all the way around the lake, which is nice. If you shore fish, you can fish almost the whole lake. I don't think you are allowed to swim or wade in the water.Three stars because the CG's were basically parking lots, but an additional star for the beautiful scenery.
Sep 28, 2021 · Glen San MarcosWe had a great time and will definitely revisit for a longer stay. RELEARNING to camp was exciting and fun, even with the hiccups we faced. Make sure you bring enough blankets, it gets cold at night... sleeping bag rated for 30 degrees was not enough for me... smiley face. Night skys were beautiful.
Oct 16, 2023 · patricia dooleyAwesome place to just get away! Quite and peaceful during weeknights! A bit more windy on this side of the lake, overall great place to camp!
Aug 30, 2018 · Olivia SchneiderWe stayed in one of the cabins on 10/15 and it was phenomenal. The cabin was small and clean, had heat and decent bedding, and a great little porch overlooking the lake. There are no fires allowed here, which worried me at first, but it was a non-issue. It ended up feeling much more convenient that we didn't need to start a fire, keep it going, and smell like fire. They do have a charcoal grill that you can use to cook. The porch and bench as well as picnic table were awesome spots to relax and enjoy the lake. You can fish right off the dock or shore about 60 yards away from the cabin, or walk around the small lake easily. This area is a gorgeous gem. Lots of hiking, close proximity to Julian (old mining town turned tourist destination/old western town), and a great and quiet overall place to escape. Most of lone pine is camp and rv sites, but we stayed in one of three small cabins they have available. It was $80 for the night. Thanks Lone Pine for the great time!-Brendan
