McGill Campground Introduce
Looking for a serene forest camping experience close to home? McGill Campground, featured on "Camping Near Me," offers a peaceful retreat nestled among abundant pine trees in the Frazier Park area. Based on feedback from fellow campers, McGill Campground provides a clean and welcoming environment for those seeking a getaway in nature.
The environment at McGill Campground is characterized by its quiet atmosphere and the prevalence of mature pine trees, creating a classic forest camping ambiance. Some campsites are located in sunny areas, while others offer shade beneath the pines. One camper recommends bringing an easy-up shelter and netting, indicating the presence of small black flies, particularly in shaded areas. The elevation of the campground contributes to a cooler climate compared to lower elevations, with one visitor noting a pleasant 80-degree temperature when surrounding areas were experiencing temperatures over 100 degrees. The air is described as very dry, a typical characteristic of the mountainous regions of Southern California, so staying hydrated is advisable.
In terms of services, McGill Campground is noted for its clean restrooms, a significant plus for many campers. A convenient feature is the availability of firewood for purchase directly from the campground host. The host is described as "very nice" and a reliable source for firewood. Campers are encouraged to buy local firewood to prevent the introduction of insects or diseases that can harm the local ecosystem. It's important to note that firewood purchases from the host are cash-only, so be sure to have cash on hand. For those needing additional supplies, the campground's location offers easy access to nearby amenities. A short 10-15 minute drive will take you to local grocery stores and Flying J's, providing convenient options for restocking essentials.
McGill Campground boasts several features that make it a popular choice for outdoor enthusiasts. Its location within a forest setting makes it ideal for those who enjoy immersive natural surroundings. The area offers opportunities for leisurely walks and more challenging hikes, allowing campers to explore the beauty of the Frazier Park region on foot. Biking is also a popular activity, with campers frequently seen riding around the campground and along the nearby roads. The campground's popularity is highlighted by a reviewer who advises making reservations in advance or arriving early to secure a desirable campsite.
It's important for visitors to be aware of the local wildlife. McGill Campground is located in bear country, so campers must take necessary precautions to store food properly and be aware of potential bear encounters. Additionally, the reviews mention the presence of insects and wasps. Bringing insect repellent and taking appropriate measures to avoid attracting wasps, especially around food, is recommended to ensure a comfortable stay.

Quiet, lots of pine trees. Half sites in sun. Bring easyup and netting, lots of small black flies. Cooler here, 80 degrees vs over 100. Very dry.
Jul 04, 2024 · Carol MoeningA very clean, campground with clean restrooms, you don't have to bring your firewood always try to buy local firewood so you don't bring in insects or disease to the area, you can always buy firewood from the host they're very nice always have cash with you because they don't accept credit cards if you need supplies you could always drive down for 10-15 minutes and buy anything you want from the local grocery stores or flying J's. If you love camping in the forest this is one of my favorite places to camp you can always go for a walk or hike, or bring your bike end bike round the camp grounds or down the road a lot of people do that. This is a popular campground make sure you either reserve your spot or come early and find a nice campground to camp, this is bear country, also there are a lot of insects and wasps, be prepared for it.
Oct 03, 2023 · Hovik MossessiA great campsite the sites are spaced nicely apart, the restrooms are nicely maintained, there's many sites to choose from and it's usually never packed here. The hosts even came by and helped us out with the fee procedure and they patrol the area often. I will warn that the winds here can be a bit strong, but that might have just been the night we went. Campsite 75 was large enough to hold 5 of us and I'm sure we could've fit another tent.
Jun 10, 2018 · James NavongsakVery nice campground, clean with several campsites and pretty decent views. They have no potable water, and currently no campfires 🔥 allowed, but propane is, but must visit the website to watch an important video and then get your permit to use propane at your campsite. We camped and then biked to the top to ride Mt Pinos downhill 7 mile single track. Awesome trail and maintained nicely.
Aug 24, 2021 · corlyn saldanaGreat place for chilling with friends & riding great trails. The views from our campsite were beautiful! The campsite was well cared for. Well spaced from other campers. Getting to do a run, go back to the site for lunch then going out for more runs was soooo great! The staff was very friendly, professional & knowledgeable.
