Last minute I couldn’t find a place to reserve for memorial weekend, everything was booked ! I found this place on google and couldn’t get in contact with the office or any place to reserve. I was able to find out that they had first come first serve tent camping spots so by faith we made our way there. The gps directions were accurate very easy place to find. Upon arrival was a nice man on a kart he said hello. Made my way to office and came to find out that they ONLY ACCEPT CASH. (The good thing was they had spots available ) went to get cash 9 miles away to Foresthill. The staff was nice not sure why the mean reviews but anyway, you will see lots of geese poop everywhere, i wished O had taken a rake or something to clean my spot. I also saw lots of dogs, so not sure why the reviews say they are not pet friendly. The lake was glorious! Not many people in it probably was to cold the sites are really close to one another so you will hear and see everything your neighbor has or does, which I think is normal at a campsite. We were able to walk a trail all around the lake it’s a nice hike probably took like an hr (wasn’t checking the time much) the restrooms were stinky, but again you are not at home , so don’t expect clean smelling restrooms. I heard loud snoring at night across from our tents but overall I give this place 5 stars ! Will definitely be going back LORD WILLING. - Marlen Ramos

Morning Star Lake Campground Introduce

Morning Star Lake Campground, nestled in Foresthill, CA 95631, USA, is a notable destination for outdoor enthusiasts actively searching for "Camping Near Me." Accessible via phone at (530) 367-2129 or mobile at +1 530-367-2129, this campground offers a rustic yet appealing escape into nature, particularly for those who appreciate lakeside recreation and a back-to-basics camping experience. The "Camping Near Me" category encompasses a wide array of outdoor accommodations, and Morning Star Lake Campground positions itself as a spot that caters to both tent campers and RV users, with a focus on natural surroundings and essential amenities.

The environment of Morning Star Lake Campground is defined by its central feature: a glorious lake. This allows for a variety of water-based activities, making it an attractive spot for those who enjoy swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing by the water. Reviews indicate that the lake is a major draw, with many visitors enjoying it on hot days using various personal watercraft. There is also the opportunity for fishing, although this comes with an extra fee. Beyond the lake itself, the campground is set within a natural landscape, offering a sense of seclusion despite the sites being relatively close to one another, a common characteristic of many campgrounds. A walking trail encircles the lake, providing a pleasant hour-long hike and a chance to explore the natural beauty of the area. The campground's proximity to OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) trails is another environmental feature that appeals to a specific segment of outdoor adventurers, though it is important to note that OHVs are not permitted to be ridden within the campground itself, contributing to a quieter atmosphere.

In terms of services and features, Morning Star Lake Campground provides fundamental amenities for a comfortable camping experience. Each campsite is equipped with essential items including a fire pit, a grill, and a picnic table, allowing campers to prepare meals and enjoy campfires. Water spigots are conveniently spaced throughout the campground, designed to be shared by a few sites, ensuring access to fresh water. The campground offers various types of sites to accommodate different needs and preferences, including standard campsites, as well as lakefront and pull-through sites which are available at a slightly higher cost. For larger groups, there are also two dedicated group campsites located at the back of the campground.

Regarding restroom facilities, reviews mention "latrine style toilets," indicating a more basic setup. It is noted that these restrooms may not be impeccably clean or odor-free, which is a common expectation at more rustic camping locations. Importantly, the dump station and showers were reportedly blocked off at the time of a review, meaning RVs needing a dump station would need to utilize alternative facilities, such as the one near Sugar Pine Reservoir. This is a crucial piece of information for RV campers planning their visit.

One distinctive service aspect highlighted by a recent review is the campground's payment policy: they only accept cash. This is a vital piece of information for prospective campers, as modern conveniences like credit card payments are not an option. Visitors should plan to acquire cash in advance, with the nearest ATM or cash source reportedly being about 9 miles away in Foresthill. The campground also offers day-use passes for individuals who wish to enjoy the lake and its surroundings without staying overnight, expanding its appeal beyond just overnight campers.

Promotional information, while not explicitly detailed in the provided text, can be inferred from the experiences of past visitors. The primary promotional appeal of Morning Star Lake Campground lies in its accessible lakeside setting and its suitability for traditional camping. It is presented as a last-minute option for those struggling to find reservations elsewhere, particularly during peak seasons like Memorial Weekend, as it offers first-come, first-served tent camping spots. This flexibility can be a significant draw for spontaneous travelers. Despite some "mean reviews" that one customer mentioned, the staff were described as "nice," suggesting a generally welcoming atmosphere. The campground's pet-friendly nature, contrary to some other reviews, is also a positive feature, as many campers travel with their dogs. However, potential visitors should be aware of the presence of geese poop, suggesting a need for personal clean-up tools like a rake for their campsites.

Overall, Morning Star Lake Campground, under the "Camping Near Me" umbrella, offers a straightforward, nature-focused camping experience. Its strengths lie in its beautiful lake for recreation, well-equipped individual campsites with picnic tables and fire pits, and its flexible first-come, first-served policy for tent sites. However, campers should be prepared for basic restroom facilities, the potential lack of a dump station and showers on-site, and the strict cash-only payment policy. Despite these considerations, the strong positive sentiment from one detailed review, particularly regarding the lake and overall experience, suggests that for those seeking a rustic, back-to-nature camping trip in Foresthill, Morning Star Lake Campground could be a highly rewarding destination. It is a place where one can connect with nature, enjoy water activities, and experience the simple joys of outdoor living, even if it requires a bit of preparation regarding cash and expectations for amenities.
