Morro Strand State Beach Campground Introduce
For local residents of Morro Bay and the surrounding Central Coast region searching for exceptional "Camping Near Me" experiences, Morro Strand State Beach Campground, located on Hatteras St, Morro Bay, CA 93442, USA, offers an unparalleled opportunity to camp directly adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. You can reach them at (805) 772-8812 or +1 805-772-8812 to inquire about availability and make reservations for your coastal getaway.
The primary draw of Morro Strand State Beach Campground, as highlighted by numerous visitors, is its fantastic location and breathtaking scenery. Situated right on the beach, the campground provides immediate access to the sandy shores and the mesmerizing views of the Pacific Ocean. Imagine waking up to the sound of crashing waves and stepping directly onto the beach for a morning stroll or a relaxing day by the sea. This direct beach access is a significant feature for those who cherish coastal walks, invigorating ocean breezes, and the overall ambiance of a beachfront setting. The landscape is described as "fantastic" and "beautiful," suggesting that campers can anticipate stunning vistas and a truly immersive coastal environment.
Morro Strand State Beach Campground caters to different camping preferences by offering both full hookup RV sites and primitive beachfront sites. For those traveling with recreational vehicles, the full hookup sites provide the convenience of water, electricity, and sewer connections, ensuring a comfortable and self-sufficient stay. These sites are described as "reasonably comfortable" and well-suited for RV needs. On the other hand, the primitive beachfront sites offer an even closer connection to the ocean. While these sites do not have hookups, they boast "incredible" views and provide a more traditional camping experience directly on the sand. The presence of a conveniently located dump station within the park makes opting for a primitive beachfront site more feasible for longer stays, allowing RVers to manage their waste without leaving the immediate area.
For dog owners considering a visit, it's important to note the park's policy regarding pets on the main beach. According to a recent visitor, dogs are not permitted directly on the primary beach area. However, the campground does provide a designated path near one end (on the left side) that can be used as a dog run area. While this is a welcome provision for those traveling with canine companions, the reviewer found the path itself to be "a little bit boring." Dog owners should be aware of this restriction and consider if the designated area meets their needs for exercising their pets during their stay.
One review highlights a potential consideration when selecting a campsite along the ocean side. Due to efforts to protect nesting snowy plovers, fencing might be erected in certain areas, potentially obstructing views or access to the beach directly from specific campsites. The reviewer who stayed at spots 9 and 11 experienced this issue, where fencing near a "little tree cave" to the beach prevented them from setting up chairs to enjoy the ocean view without peering through the slats. This suggests that the specific location of a beachfront site can significantly impact the immediate experience and view. It is advisable for potential campers to inquire about the current status of any fencing or restrictions when making their reservations and possibly consult a campground map to choose a site that best suits their preferences for unobstructed views and beach access.
Despite the minor concerns raised in the reviews, the overall sentiment towards Morro Strand State Beach Campground is overwhelmingly positive, primarily due to its exceptional location and direct beach access. The combination of different site types – full hookup RV sites for comfort and convenience, and primitive beachfront sites for an immersive coastal experience – caters to a range of camping styles. The availability of essential amenities, such as the dump station, further enhances the appeal of the primitive sites for longer stays.
For local users seeking a "Camping Near Me" option that truly embraces the beauty of the California coast, Morro Strand State Beach Campground stands out as a prime choice. The opportunity to camp steps away from the ocean, enjoy long beach walks, and take in the stunning coastal scenery is a significant draw. Whether you prefer the convenience of full hookups for your RV or the more rustic experience of a tent pitched near the waves, this campground offers a unique and memorable getaway. While it's important to be aware of the dog restrictions on the main beach and potential fencing in certain areas, the overall allure of camping in such a fantastic location makes Morro Strand State Beach Campground a highly recommended destination for local beach lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Consider planning your next camping trip to Morro Strand State Beach Campground to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Morro Bay coastline firsthand. With its direct beach access, varied camping options, and stunning scenery, it promises a memorable "Camping Near Me" experience for individuals, couples, and families alike. Be sure to call the provided phone numbers to check availability and reserve your spot for a coastal camping adventure.

Morro Strand State Beach Campground Reviews
Fantastic Location and Scenery, Great for Beach Lovers! We stayed at Morro Strand RV Park in early March and really enjoyed our time. The location is hard to beat, offering direct access to the beautiful beach for long walks – my wife and I loved strolling along the shore, taking in the fantastic landscape. Our full hookup RV site was reasonably comfortable and suited our needs well. It's important for fellow dog owners to know that dogs aren't permitted directly on the main beach. However, the park does provide a designated path near the end (on the left) that can be used as a dog run area. While it's appreciated to have somewhere for the dog to stretch its legs, we found the path itself a little bit boring. The park offers both full hookup sites and primitive beachfront sites. We opted for full hookups this time, but the views from those beachfront spots were incredible. They are primitive (no hookups), but we're already planning our next visit and thinking about booking one of those for a week to fully enjoy the oceanfront experience. Having a dump station conveniently located within the park makes the primitive option more feasible.Overall, it's a wonderful place to stay due to the stunning location and beach access.
Apr 20, 2025 · Marco PassalacquaGreat spot to camp right on the beach! If you pick along the ocean side beware that you are sandwiched between campers! We picked spot 9 and 11 right next to each other but the little tree cave to the beach had fencing up for the nesting of the snowy plovers so we couldn't even park our chairs to see the ocean without having to peek through the slats of the fencing. If only they moved the fence 10 feet! We will come back but will pick a different spot that has no fencing or more room.
Apr 28, 2025 · S AWJust feet from the beach, this place can’t be beat for ocean access. Some of the spots are a little tight for RVs, and you’re on blacktop, essentially in a parking lot. But if your intent is to be on the beach, it’s perfect. It’s also close to lots of restaurants in Morro Bay. Basically, if you’re not looking for anything rustic, this will do. Locals use it on weekends so it can be a little loud, but a great stop during the week for a couple days or so.
Feb 04, 2025 · Adam OverlandStayed four nights and thought is was a great location. The only downside is that there are no showers and the bathrooms are not great. Be careful to get a great spot with a view because not all of the spots are like that.
May 01, 2025 · JaysonMorro Strand State Beach campground is a wonderful place to camp.Steps from the beach!! We bring our van but there are tent camping spots too!! There is a camp host and wood for sale. Bathrooms are public but clean. Always a spot in the winter months. Always packed in the summer. Sunsets are spectacular!!
