Moscow Maples RV Park Introduce
For local users exploring 'camping near me' in the Horton, Michigan area, Moscow Maples RV Park, situated at 8291 E Chicago Rd Sp 160, Horton, MI 49246, USA, presents a location with notably contrasting recent reviews. Potential visitors can contact the park at (517) 688-9853 or +1 517-688-9853 for inquiries. Understanding the recent experiences of other campers is crucial when considering this RV park for your getaway.
Environment and Setting:
While specific details about the physical environment of Moscow Maples RV Park (such as the presence of woods, lake access, or specific natural features) are not extensively described in the provided reviews, one positive comment mentions that the previous managers, Bob and Mary, wanted all campers to have a great time. This suggests that the park was, at least in the past, a pleasant setting for a camping experience. However, the stark contrast in the subsequent negative review does not provide further insight into the natural surroundings. Local users might need to seek additional information from external sources or by directly contacting the park to understand the current environment and the types of scenery or amenities offered in terms of natural setting.
Services and Amenities:
The reviews offer limited but important information regarding the services and amenities at Moscow Maples RV Park:
- Friendly and Helpful Management (Past): One reviewer specifically praised the former managers, Bob and Mary, for being very friendly and helpful and for their desire to ensure campers had a great time. This indicates a positive aspect of the park's service under previous management.
- Pool (Limited Hours): A negative review mentions that the pool is only open from 12 PM to 8 PM, with the commenter expressing dissatisfaction with these limited hours. This suggests the presence of a pool as an amenity, but with potentially restrictive operating times.
- Dog Restrictions: The same negative review states that dogs are not allowed in the park area because of concerns about urination and children stepping in it. This indicates a specific rule regarding pets within the park.
- Parking Restrictions: The reviewer also mentioned that the park does not want groups to park together, which could be a relevant factor for those traveling with multiple vehicles or other families.
The absence of mentions of other common RV park amenities, such as hookups (water, sewer, electric), restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, or recreational areas beyond the pool and the restricted "park" area for dogs, makes it difficult to provide a comprehensive list of services. Potential local users should inquire directly about the availability and nature of these essential amenities.
Features and Atmosphere:
The recent feedback paints a concerning picture of a potential shift in the overall atmosphere and features of Moscow Maples RV Park:
- Shift in Management and Rules: The strong negative review indicates a significant perceived decline in the park's atmosphere and management style compared to the past. The reviewer states the place has "went down hill by a thousand percent" since their previous frequent visits.
- Strict and Unfriendly Enforcement: The review describes a feeling of being constantly monitored ("hound everything you do") and cites specific instances of what the reviewer perceived as rude and overly authoritative behavior from the owner's daughter towards both adults and children.
- Negative Interaction with Staff: The commenter found the owner's daughter to be "not personable at all" and described an interaction where a child was threatened with being confined to their campsite for being in a prohibited area.
- Impact on Group Camping: The policy against parking with one's group could detract from the social aspect of camping for those traveling together.
- Perceived Decline in Friendliness: The reviewer explicitly contrasts the current unfriendly atmosphere with a previously "so different and friendly" environment, leading to their decision not to return under any circumstances.
The stark contrast between the positive recollection of the previous managers and the strongly negative experience under what appears to be new management is a critical point for potential local users to consider. The current atmosphere seems to be characterized by strict rules and a perceived lack of friendliness, which may not be conducive to a relaxed camping experience for all.
Promotional Information and Current Status:
The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers for Moscow Maples RV Park. Given the strongly negative recent review, it is unclear whether the park is actively trying to attract new visitors through promotions. Local users considering this RV park should prioritize obtaining up-to-date information directly from the park management regarding their current policies, amenities, and any ongoing promotions. It would also be prudent to seek out more recent reviews from other sources to get a broader understanding of the current guest experience.
The significant discrepancy between the positive memory of past management and the very negative recent experience suggests a period of substantial change at Moscow Maples RV Park. For local users who may have visited in the past and had a positive experience, it is crucial to be aware that the current atmosphere and rules may be significantly different. New visitors should weigh the positive mention of the former managers against the serious concerns raised in the negative review regarding the current management style and restrictions.
Before making a decision to stay at Moscow Maples RV Park, local users are strongly advised to:
- Contact the park directly: Use the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current amenities, rules, and management policies. Ask specific questions related to pet policies, pool hours, parking for groups, and any other concerns raised in the reviews.
- Seek more recent reviews: Look for reviews on other platforms (such as Google Reviews, Yelp, or RV-specific forums) to see if the experiences described in the provided feedback are isolated incidents or indicative of a broader trend.
- Consider alternatives: Explore other RV parks and campgrounds in the Horton, MI area to compare amenities, rules, and recent customer experiences.
In conclusion, Moscow Maples RV Park near Horton, MI, presents a cautionary tale of potentially changing management and atmosphere. While it may have been a friendly destination in the past, recent feedback raises significant concerns about strict rules, unfriendly staff interactions, and limited amenities (such as pool hours and pet restrictions). Local users searching for 'camping near me' should exercise due diligence in gathering current information and considering recent guest experiences before booking a stay at Moscow Maples RV Park.

Moscow Maples RV Park Reviews
The managers Bob and Mary are very friendly and helpful. They want all of their campers to have a great time. We have been their several times, and we will gladly return again.
Oct 19, 2024 · Paul GreenThis place has went down hill by a thousand percent. We used to come frequently, now they hound everything you do. Can’t take the dogs to the park because they pee and kids can step in it! The owners daughter looks like she hates life every second of the day. Not personable at all! She pointed at a kid and told them if they were found in an area again they would be hanging at their own campsite, with attitude and authority! They don’t want you to park with your group..the pool is only open 12-8 like what the heck! I just remember it being so different and friendly! I won’t be back even if they paid me to stay!
Jul 07, 2024 · Kristen PraterI have stayed here briefly. Unfortunately there was a backfire that happened between me and my current Ex staying there together. I was forced to leave due to the relationship abruptly ending. Besides the relationship failure. I enjoyed it there. It was very quiet and peaceful. I arrived during the beginning of May. It was amazing almost the whole month there. The owners were very nice I would rate that place a solid 10 out of 10!!
Aug 17, 2023 · Daniel K Brackett, Jr.What a gem of a find! We're staying here for a month but decided to come back and stay another month. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pool is such a nice addition. The sites are pretty grassy and very level. There are many seasonal campers but plenty of room for short time camping. The location is close to shopping areas but quiet enough to really enjoy your stay. Sites can be a bit snug on busy weekends but it works. I do wish they would grade the gravels roads, they need a bit of attention. Bathrooms are clean, the whole park is pretty well attended.
Jun 25, 2022 · AnJie HavensAbsolutely love it so far & we haven't even been in the pool yet. The site we are on is huge & the staff is really nice. Some of the sites are very well decorated & you can tell that everyone comes to relax & decompress from the daily grind. They had movie night tonight & Wall E was projected on the side of a building & we could hear & see it from out site as we were finishing some final touches to our setup. Would most certainly come back.
