Mossy Oak Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Jesup, Georgia, seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience, Mossy Oak Campground, located at 1162 Whaley Rd, Jesup, GA 31546, presents a quiet and secluded option. Reachable by phone at (912) 427-4452 or +1 912-427-4452, this smaller campground has received positive feedback for its management and peaceful atmosphere, offering spacious sites and a few rentals. While some concerns have been raised about the cleanliness of the shared bathhouse and the lack of cell service and Wi-Fi, the campground boasts unique amenities like private restrooms/showers and a camper-only fish pond.
The environment of Mossy Oak Campground is described as "secluded" and "a bit out of the way," suggesting a location that offers a genuine escape from the hustle and bustle of town. Despite its secluded feel, it is conveniently located "close enough to town to run in for supplies," striking a balance between tranquility and accessibility. The name "Mossy Oak Campground" itself evokes an image of a natural setting with mature trees, likely draped with Spanish moss, typical of the coastal plain region of Georgia. Campers can likely expect a wooded environment providing shade and a sense of privacy between sites. The "quiet" nature of the park further enhances the peaceful ambiance, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and unwinding in nature. The presence of a "camper only fish pond" suggests an additional natural element within the campground, potentially attracting local wildlife and offering a recreational activity for guests.
Based on the reviews from campers, Mossy Oak Campground offers a range of services and amenities, with some notable highlights and areas for potential improvement:
- Spacious Campsites: The campground offers "plenty of space for various sized campers," indicating that it can accommodate both larger RVs and smaller tents comfortably.
- Rentals Available: The owner, HL, reportedly has "a few rentals" available, providing an alternative to traditional camping for those who prefer cabin-style accommodations. The specifics of these rentals (size, amenities) are not detailed in the reviews.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: The owner "takes great care of the grounds," suggesting a visually appealing and orderly environment.
- Washers and Dryers: The presence of laundry facilities is a significant convenience for longer stays or for those needing to refresh their clothing.
- Private Restroom/Shower Facility: A notable feature is the availability of a "private restroom/shower facility," which could be a significant draw for campers seeking more individual and potentially cleaner options compared to a shared bathhouse. The number and accessibility of these private facilities are not specified.
- Camper Only Fish Pond: This unique amenity provides a recreational opportunity for guests to enjoy fishing within the campground itself. Details about the size, fish species, and any regulations for the pond are not provided.
However, the reviews also highlight some areas of concern:
- Cleanliness of the Bathhouse: One reviewer notes that the "bath house needs better attention" and is "usually always nasty around toilets" with "shower area is full of black mold." This is a significant issue that potential local users should be aware of.
- Lack of Cell Service and Wi-Fi: A major drawback mentioned by both reviewers is the "nonexistent" cell service and the absence of Wi-Fi. This could be a significant consideration for those needing to stay connected or rely on their phones for communication or navigation. One reviewer noted "spotty" phone signal, suggesting it might vary by carrier or location within the campground.
- Small and Out of the Way: While the seclusion can be a positive aspect for peace and quiet, the "small" size might imply limited availability or fewer amenities compared to larger campgrounds. Being "a bit out of the way" might require a slightly longer drive for some local users.
The features of Mossy Oak Campground that might appeal to local users searching for "camping near me" include:
- Quiet and Secluded Atmosphere: Ideal for those seeking a peaceful escape from urban noise and crowds.
- Spacious Sites: Accommodating various sizes of camping setups.
- Availability of Rentals: Offering an alternative to traditional camping.
- Private Restroom/Shower Option: A potentially cleaner and more comfortable alternative to the shared bathhouse.
- Camper Only Fish Pond: A unique recreational amenity.
- Well-Maintained Grounds (Overall): Suggesting a visually pleasant environment.

Apr 01, 2025 · Scotty MossVery nice secluded campground located close enough to town to run in for supplies and far enough away to forget town is there. Plenty of space for various sized campers and the owner even has a few rentals. HL (the owner) takes great care of the grounds and facilities which include washers, dryers, private restroom/shower facility and a camper only fish pond. The only downside for me was my phone signal was a little spotty. I hope to have the opportunity to return in the future.
Dec 15, 2017 · Jarvis BarnesVery nice manager and met the property owner a few times as he drove through. It's very beautiful there. They don't take credit cards.
Oct 15, 2024 · Mike Ware (吴威尔)Way over priced. NO FISHING. Not well maintained. Too bad cause the owners seem nice.
Feb 04, 2023 · Karin SiemensI’m very very very disappointed. I called to make a reservation, three weeks in advance for the first of July so my wife and I can enjoy going to the drive-in movie. The owner would not reserve it to me because he wanted to see if he could make more money due to the 4th of July weekend. It’s sad that making more money is more important than providing the service he is in business for. Now I will never stay at this place. Think about how much future money he could have made if we enjoyed the drive-in. I wanted to come back with my kids. Now I will never come back. Good luck Mossy Oaks.
