Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Summersville, West Virginia area? Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins, located at 1898 Airport Rd, Summersville, WV 26651, USA, offers a large site with a variety of amenities and accommodation options, including tent sites, pull-through RV sites, and cabins. You can reach them at (304) 872-6222 or their mobile number, +1 304-872-6222, to inquire about availability and make reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground presents a mixed experience with both notable positives and areas for consideration for local users.
One positive aspect highlighted by a visitor who stayed with family is the sheer size of Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins, offering "so much to see and do." The spaciousness of the campsites themselves was also appreciated, with one reviewer noting they were "roomy" and that their tent site even had an "amazing view of the small airport and surrounding hills." This suggests that the environment can be quite scenic, with some sites offering unique views. The campground also boasts a beach, which was enjoyed by at least one visitor, and "serenity point" is recommended as a must-visit for sunset views, indicating natural beauty worth exploring within the property.
The campground offers a range of amenities that could appeal to local users. These include a pool (though noted as small and cold but well-maintained), mini-golf (available for an extra fee), and an ice cream store that was found to be satisfying. For families, the availability of these recreational options can enhance their stay. The staff was described as "pretty nice and helpful," and one reviewer even had a pleasant interaction with the owner, suggesting a friendly atmosphere.
However, the large and hilly nature of the campground is a significant point to consider. The reviewer who enjoyed their stay advised against walking or even biking to get around due to the size and the very hilly terrain. They recommended either driving a car or renting a golf cart, especially noting that if you rent an electric golf cart, it's wise to book a site with hookups for charging. This suggests that the internal layout of the campground might require vehicular transportation for ease of movement between different areas and amenities.
On the other hand, some reviews raise concerns about the management of the campground. One reviewer felt that the campground was "poorly managed," while another detailed issues such as arriving at a site with trash, very low water pressure, and a lack of effective response from staff regarding noise disturbances during quiet hours. This reviewer reported instances of loud music from a truck parked on the basketball court and someone doing "donuts" on the grass with a golf cart at night. Upon reporting this to the staff, they were allegedly told there was nothing that could be done and that the police should be called for such issues, which the reviewer found unacceptable, indicating a perceived lack of care from the management.
The camp store was also mentioned as being "a bit of a letdown," with a focus on knick-knacks rather than a wide selection of actual camping supplies. While this might not be a major issue for all campers, local users relying on the camp store for essential camping gear might find its offerings limited.
The restrooms were described as "alright, about average for a campground" but were noted to be cleaned daily, which is a positive aspect regarding hygiene. This suggests that while not exceptional, the restroom facilities are maintained regularly.
Considering the category "camping near me," Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins offers a location near Summersville Lake, which is a significant draw for those interested in lake activities. However, prospective local users should weigh the positive aspects like spacious and scenic campsites, a beach, and recreational amenities against the potential drawbacks mentioned in some reviews, such as the need for motorized transport within the campground and concerns about management responsiveness to certain issues.
For local users contemplating a visit, it would be beneficial to inquire about the specific location of campsites relative to amenities and the lake, the availability and cost of golf cart rentals, and the campground's policies regarding noise and security. Understanding these aspects will help in making an informed decision about whether Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins aligns with your expectations for a local camping experience.
To get the most up-to-date information and address any potential concerns raised in the reviews, local residents can contact Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins directly at the provided phone numbers. Asking about recent improvements, management policies, and the current state of amenities will provide a clearer picture for those considering this campground for their "camping near me" search. It's also advisable to check recent online reviews from other platforms to get a broader perspective on the current guest experience.
In conclusion, Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins in Summersville, WV, offers a large campground with spacious sites, lake proximity, and amenities like a pool and mini-golf. However, its size and hilly terrain may necessitate vehicular transport, and some reviews indicate concerns regarding management and rule enforcement. Local users searching for "camping near me" should consider these factors alongside the positive aspects of scenery and some friendly staff interactions when deciding if this campground is the right fit for their needs.

Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins Reviews
This is a great campground! I came here in June with my wife, daughter, and my parents. My wife, baby, and I stayed in a tent only campsite while my parents were in a pull through RV site,This place is huge! There is so much to see and do. But because of this size, I would not recommend walking the campground or even using a bike to get around. I say this because on top of it being very large and spaced apart, it is also very, very hilly. You'll find yourself either having to drive your car or rent a golf cart. The staff was pretty nice and helpful. We even met the owner. She was nice to talk to.The camp store was a bit of a letdown, a lot of knic knacks, and not many actual camping supplies. The pool was small and very, very cold well maintained. The mini golf was fun, but unlike other campgrounds I've been to, you have to pay for it. The ice cream store was also satisfying. The campsites themselves are roomy, plenty of space! Ours even had an amazing view of the small airport and surrounding hills. The restrooms were alright, about average for a campground. But they seemed to be cleaned every day.The beach was nice, we definitely enjoyed it. Also, make sure to stop by serenity point for sunset. You Won't regret it!I would recommend either bringing your own golf cart or renting one. But make sure if it's electric, you book a site with a hookup to charge the cart when not in use.All together, this is a great place. We will hopefully be back!
Jun 17, 2024 · Fred JarkaOverall the location is very good relative to the lake but the campground is poorly managed. The management at the campground does not seem to take much initiative to operate the campground. We arrived at our site and it had trash all over it along in the woods next to our site. The water pressure was also incredibly low at our site. We ended up just filling our fresh water tank in our camper and using that.At night there were people who parked their truck on the basketball court and were blasting music. Along with that someone was doing donuts in the grass next to the court in their golf cart. I mentioned it to the staff the next day and was told there’s nothing they can do; even though it was during quiet hours established by the campground. They have security there but they just sit at the front gate; they don’t patrol the campground and there’s no way for me to contact them. I was told if it’s causing a problem I need to call the police. This answer is unacceptable and it shows management doesn’t seem to care.
Jul 21, 2024 · Andrew EidnierMy family and I are on road trips, just cruising around the country, looking for a place to stay for the evening. Not many campgrounds popped up around here with a 4 rating. As I checked in, I had asked the price for the evening, and I was told $35 with hookups. However, that's their starting fee. But they added additional fees. $5 reservation fee, then if you have more than 2 people staying at the site, they charge an additional $10 person. In my case, a family of 4 with the wife and 2 boys, I had to pay extra for my boys. When asked as well for a site near the bathroom for my boys to make it easier for them, they have me a site 5 sites away, when I asked about closer sites, they said there wasn't any. Yet I pull into the site and vacant sites all over. Seems they stack people next to each other and don't allow gaps. So when you come you will be next to someone at all times. The campsite, in general, has the hookup pole eith the number. They have a picnic table and some random rocks in a circle that look like a fire pit. The sites are not really defined with boundaries i wont get into the bathroom and its disarray. In the end, I won't be back, as I stayed at a KOA and paid $35, had a pool, mini golf, and playground all included.
Jun 12, 2024 · nathan hackerBeautiful campground and sites. Convenient to boat ramp and lake activities. Roads are gravel and probably rough for campers, as it was for our boat. Staff were very nice and ice cream was great. Tent camped in area 3 in a beautiful wooded site. Only two issues were no hot water and lack of restrooms. There is one building with two toilets at the front of camping area and two portapoties back in the woods. Not enough!By sat portapoties were out of tp and never refilled during the weekend. Don't really like driving to other areas for showers. Overall it is a nice place.
May 27, 2024 · Kelly BrauneckCalled to make a reservation and told the agent we had a dog and they failed to inform me on the policies and breed restrictions that they had. Called once I received the paperwork to talk to someone because I have a small Pitt mix traveling with us and my partners small child. They refused to let us come and told us they would refund our deposit but would still charge us a cancellation fee for cancelling. Not sure how their employees not doing their job and informing us of information needed caused us to still have to pay for a place to stay. Now we’re stuck with no place to camp.
