A significant advantage is its "conveniently located right on the shores of the jewel of West Virginia Summersville Lake." This prime location offers immediate access to the lake's stunning clear waters and the numerous recreational opportunities it provides.
The popularity of Summersville Lake, often referred to as the "Bahamas of the East Coast" due to its beautiful clear and pristine waters, means that Battle Run Campground "gets pretty packed in the summer." Therefore, the reviewer advises potential visitors to "get ahold of Summersville Lake US Army corps of engineers head office to make reservations and prepay your spot" to ensure availability, especially during peak season. This proactive tip is crucial for local users planning a summer getaway and underscores the campground's desirability.
Safety is also highlighted, with the mention that the campground is "always safe, with the Nicholas County sheriff's department generally readily close by." For boating enthusiasts, the reviewer points out that "there is no limit on outboard motor power here, so we bring your cigar boats," indicating that the lake accommodates a wide range of watercraft. However, they also wisely caution about "a large portion of the lake that is a no wake zone," advising visitors to "pay attention to where these zones are" for safe and respectful enjoyment of the lake.
In terms of amenities, Battle Run Campground offers practical facilities, including "showers, bathrooms, and even a host family that stays here during the season to adequately prepare the grounds for your visit." The presence of a host family suggests on-site assistance and a well-maintained environment. Additionally, "there is a large truck stop out by US route 19 that will allow you to purchase gas, ice, and any other needs you may have." Located right beside the gas station is a "Family Dollar which carries many of the other products you will need daily," ensuring that essential supplies are easily accessible.
Another reviewer corroborates the positive experience, calling it "a great campground with lake access." They specifically mention that "not all sites have a water view but if you book in advance you can get one," highlighting the desirability of waterfront campsites and the benefit of early booking. The abundance of water view sites is also noted ("There are many sites with a water view"). The reviewer also praises the affordability, stating, "The rates are great." Sep 03, 2024 · jason gillThis is a great campground with lake access. Not all sites have a water view but if you book in advance you can get one. There are many sites with a water view. The rates are great. We kayaked from our site and absolutely enjoyed all it had to offer!
Jul 23, 2022 · Robert RogersWe were planning to stay at the free campground a few miles back but little did we know we were arriving at the start of Gauley season so the water in the lake went down a bit each day (they release the water for the rafting). We lucked out and got an amazing spot right on the lake with an almost 360 water view. The park was busy on the weekends and about 1/3 full during the week. We stayed in September 2017 and would stay again, for as long as the park allows. Water and electric at the site, nice dump station. Great cell service (AT&T and verizon) and nice interior roads. Some trees need trimmed and they have pull thrus that are more parallel parking, not exactly big rig friendly.
Nov 22, 2017 · Nikki KirkAwesome place for family. Can't recommend any campground higher..perfect for kids. Scenery is amazing. Volleyball, basketball, playground. Bike riding. Fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming. Need I say more. Vending machines on site, wash and shower and restrooms. Security and town police patrol a lot. Staff r friendly and place kept immaculate. Rv and tent camping. Drawbacks. No pets unless they have service tags. No water or sewage hookups at any sites. Because of terrain and rock. Can't install. Still out of 50 campgrounds in my life. My family loves this place the most. Even has a beach for swimming. Pic nic shelters. Multiple boat launch sites and kayak launch sites, plus fishing pier with shade.
Jun 05, 2021 · Mark StarcherVery convenient to lake access for swimming, kayaking, or boating. The campsite was very nice and would be 5 stars if the campground had someone to contact after hours for some roudy teens running wild at 1am. Some of them even climbed a wall and got on the roof of the bath house. Sucks when someone can take something nice and ruin it for you.
