North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground Introduce
For local users in the Raleigh, North Carolina area and those traveling through seeking reliable "camping near me" with full RV hookups, the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground, located at 801 Youth Center Dr, Raleigh, NC 27606, USA, offers a straightforward and convenient option. You can reach them at (919) 612-6767 or their mobile number, +1 919-612-6767, to inquire about availability and make reservations. Based on customer reviews, this campground provides a no-frills but functional experience, primarily catering to self-contained RV units.
The environment of the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground is described as "very basic" and "mostly sunny," with "a few trees" providing limited shade in some areas. The campsites themselves are on a surface of "gravel/grass" and are noted to be "level," which is a significant advantage for RV owners seeking easy setup. The overall atmosphere is reported as "very quiet," suggesting a peaceful stay despite its potentially central location within Raleigh. Given its location at the State Fairgrounds, the immediate surroundings might include open areas and facilities associated with the fairgrounds, which could be bustling during events but quiet during other times of the year. It's important to note that the natural environment, in terms of extensive greenery or natural barriers between sites, appears to be minimal.
The primary service offered at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground is "full hookups" at each site. This is a significant feature for RV travelers, providing connections for water, electricity, and sewer, allowing for a comfortable and self-sufficient stay. The consistent mention of full hookups in both reviews underscores its importance as a key amenity of this campground. However, it is crucial to note the significant limitations in other services and features. According to customer feedback, there are "no showers or restrooms" available at the campground, meaning that campers must be entirely self-contained within their RVs for these essential facilities. Additionally, the campground does not provide "picnic tables or fire rings" at the individual sites, further emphasizing its basic nature.
The standout feature of the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground is its provision of level sites with full hookups in a potentially convenient location within Raleigh. This makes it an attractive option for RVers who prioritize functionality and utility connections over extensive amenities or a heavily natural setting. The quiet atmosphere, as reported by reviewers, is another positive feature, especially for those seeking a peaceful overnight stay or a longer-term base while exploring the area or attending events. The fact that repeat visitors have stayed for a week and intend to return indicates a level of satisfaction with the basic offerings and the overall experience for self-contained RVers.
No specific promotional information is provided in the given reviews. To learn about any potential discounts for longer stays, seasonal rates, or special offers that might be available at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground, interested local users should contact them directly using the provided phone numbers. It would also be advisable to inquire about any upcoming events at the fairgrounds that might impact the campground's availability or atmosphere.
For local users seeking "camping near me" in Raleigh primarily for short or extended stays in self-contained RVs, the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground offers a practical solution with its full hookups and level sites. Its quiet environment, despite the potential for proximity to city amenities and fairground activities, is a notable benefit. However, it is essential for prospective campers to be fully aware of the absence of restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and fire rings, as this campground caters specifically to those who are entirely self-sufficient in their RV units.
The repeated positive experiences of one reviewer, who has stayed for a week on two separate occasions and intends to return, suggest that for the right type of camper (i.e., one with a fully self-contained RV), the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground provides a reliable and satisfactory experience. The level sites are particularly appreciated by RVers, as they simplify the setup process and ensure comfort. The presence of some shade in certain sites, as mentioned by another reviewer, is a minor but welcome addition to the otherwise sunny environment.
In conclusion, the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground offers a basic yet functional "camping near me" option in Raleigh, primarily catering to self-contained RVs. Its key features include level gravel/grass sites with full hookups (water, electricity, and sewer) and a generally quiet atmosphere. However, it lacks essential amenities such as restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and fire rings, making it suitable only for campers who are fully equipped within their own units. Local users with RVs seeking a convenient and quiet base with full hookups in Raleigh should consider the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground, but must be prepared to be entirely self-sufficient. Contact them directly for availability and any potential promotional information.

North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground Reviews
This is a very basic, no frills campground, but sites are level with full hookups. We were here for a week and this is our second visit. There are a few trees, but it's mostly sunny. Sites are gravel/grass. Very quiet campground. No showers or restrooms, you must be self contained. No picnic table or fire rings.
Apr 22, 2025 · JoAnne OwensFull hookups. Most sites were l level and some were shaded. We've stayed before and will come back next time in Raleigh.
Apr 30, 2025 · C Brick OwensRV Camping:You get all the basic necessities here. Water. Power. Dump at the front. No playground. No showers. No separate bathrooms.Fires are allowed. There’s a ton of room for parking. The benefit of this basic campground is that you are around everything. Literally. Everything.

Mar 20, 2025 · Richard LouriePrice & Location are great!! Place seems well kept. Quite!!! Clean. Only downside is no laundry mat.( really hope they build one in the future). But there are 2 within 5-7 minutes away. We booked ahead, for our site. Very happy with the size of our site. We have a 46' Cyclone and 3500 dually plenty of room. Full hook up. We will return if were ever in the area again. Would highly recommend. Especially if your in town for NC state university events. Campus is minutes away.
