Beautiful views, clean public bathroom, fishing spots next to campsite. The only bad thing is no cell service at all, and they haven't been maintaining the fire pits / grill areas on each site. They are all fill and need cleaning out. Mostly primitive campsites. Each are 16$ a night for a single and 30$ for a double. Rv campsites are available as well. If you want a beautiful place to connect with nature this place is one i would recommend. And only 30 minutes from roanoke city. Located 11 miles off the Arcadia exit! - The local Yokle

North Creek Campground Introduce

For local outdoor enthusiasts in the Buchanan, Virginia, area searching for "camping near me," North Creek Campground, located at 2252 N Creek Rd, Buchanan, VA 24066, offers a natural and potentially secluded camping experience. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground is characterized by its scenic beauty, proximity to fishing spots, and a more primitive camping style with limited amenities. Situated approximately 30 minutes from Roanoke City and 11 miles off the Arcadia exit, it provides a convenient escape into nature for local residents seeking a break from urban life.

The environment of North Creek Campground is highly praised for its "beautiful views" and its location next to a "mountain stream." Several of the 16 campsites back directly onto this stream, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting for campers. The presence of fishing spots right by the campsites is a significant feature for anglers looking for a convenient place to cast their lines. The overall atmosphere is one of connecting with nature, making it an appealing destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat away from the noise of city life. While the reviews don't detail the specific types of trees or terrain, the mention of backing up to a mountain stream suggests a potentially wooded and possibly hilly environment typical of the region.

In terms of services and features, North Creek Campground leans towards a more primitive camping experience. One of the key pieces of information is that the campground operates on a "first come, no reservations" basis, which means local users need to plan accordingly and arrive early, especially during peak seasons, to secure a campsite. The campground offers both single and double primitive campsites, priced at $16 and $30 per night, respectively. RV campsites are also mentioned as being available, suggesting that some sites might accommodate larger vehicles, although the specific hookups and amenities for RVs are not detailed.

A notable positive aspect highlighted in one review is the "clean public bathroom." However, the amenities are generally limited. There is "no electricity" and "no shower house." Instead, the campground provides "just a couple out houses." This lack of standard amenities indicates that campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient camping experience. The reviews also mention the absence of cell service ("no cell service at all"), which could be a significant consideration for those who need to stay connected or rely on their phones for navigation or emergencies. A nearby gas station with "some provisions" is noted as being not far from the campground, offering a convenient place to pick up basic necessities.

One area for potential improvement mentioned by a reviewer is the maintenance of the "fire pits / grill areas on each site." They are described as being "all fill and need cleaning out," suggesting that local users might need to bring their own tools to clear these areas or be prepared for less-than-ideal cooking setups. Despite this, the overall sentiment towards the natural beauty and peacefulness of the campground remains positive.

Considering the category "camping near me," North Creek Campground offers a conveniently located natural escape for residents of Buchanan, Roanoke, and the surrounding areas. Its proximity to a mountain stream, coupled with the availability of fishing right at the campsites, makes it particularly attractive for nature lovers and anglers. The affordability of the campsites ($16 for single, $30 for double) also makes it an accessible option for budget-conscious local campers. However, the primitive nature of the campground, with no electricity, no showers, and limited restroom facilities, means that campers need to be well-prepared and comfortable with a more rustic experience.

The reviews provide some important "promotional" points for the right kind of camper. The emphasis on "beautiful views" and the opportunity to "connect with nature" appeal to those seeking a tranquil and scenic getaway. The proximity to fishing spots is a specific draw for fishing enthusiasts. The affordability and the short drive from Roanoke City (30 minutes) make it an accessible option for a weekend or overnight escape. However, the lack of cell service might be seen as a benefit by those wanting to disconnect and fully immerse themselves in nature.

The mention of needing to "pack up your stuff at night so as not to attract bears" is an important piece of information regarding wildlife in the area. While one reviewer noted that they didn't see any bears, they attributed this to guests following park rules, implying that bears are a potential presence and that proper food storage is essential for safety. This adds an element of wilderness and requires campers to be responsible and informed about bear safety practices.

In conclusion, North Creek Campground in Buchanan, VA, offers a beautiful and affordable primitive camping experience along a mountain stream with fishing opportunities. Its convenient location near Roanoke makes it a viable option for local users seeking a quick escape into nature. However, potential campers should be aware of the limited amenities, including no electricity, no showers, outhouses for restrooms, and the lack of cell service. Being prepared for a more rustic experience and taking precautions regarding wildlife, particularly bears, is essential. The "first come, no reservations" policy also requires flexible planning. For local residents who prioritize natural beauty, the sound of a mountain stream, and fishing, and who are comfortable with primitive camping, North Creek Campground could be a highly recommended "camping near me" destination.
