The surrounding area of Germfask in the Upper Peninsula is known for its natural beauty and proximity to various outdoor activities, making Northland Outfitters a convenient basecamp for exploring the region. One reviewer mentioned its location not being far from other Upper Peninsula attractions, suggesting that while the campground itself offers plenty, it also provides easy access to the wider area's offerings, including even repeat visits for activities like "rock hunting." The combination of the immediate riverside and pond environment with the broader natural attractions of the Upper Peninsula makes Northland Outfitters a compelling local camping destination.
In terms of services, Northland Outfitters Campground & Canoe / Kayak Livery excels in providing both comfortable accommodations and convenient activity access. The availability of "riverfront cabins" offers a cozy and well-appointed alternative to traditional tent camping or RVs. One reviewer found their cabin "extremely cozy and well appointed," indicating attention to detail and guest comfort in these rentals. For those using the campground's facilities, the "bathhouses were the best we have ever come across at a campground," and another reviewer echoed this, stating they were "so much cleaner than what I’ve experienced at other campgrounds and also hotels" and were seen being cleaned frequently throughout the day. This exceptional cleanliness of the bathhouses is a significant service that greatly enhances the overall camping experience. Furthermore, the staff is consistently praised as "super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable," with one instance of a staff member offering to drive firewood to a cabin, highlighting their dedication to guest service. The direct on-site rental of "kayak, tubing, and canoe rentals" with the campground serving as the end landing for these river activities provides unparalleled convenience for those looking to enjoy the water. The offer to drive firewood also suggests that basic camping necessities are available or can be readily provided.
The features of Northland Outfitters Campground are numerous and cater to a variety of interests. The unique "Thomas Dambo troll, Benny the beardfisher," is a significant attraction, drawing visitors to the campground. This whimsical art installation provides a memorable and photo-worthy experience. Importantly, the campground has a clear system for non-campers to visit the troll for a small fee per carload, with an emphasis on respectful interaction between visitors and campers, ensuring a positive experience for everyone. The availability of "lawn games they provide" right outside some cabins adds to the recreational options within the campground itself. The direct access to kayak, tubing, and canoe rentals with the river as the landing point makes it incredibly easy for guests to enjoy water-based adventures without needing to transport their own equipment or arrange separate drop-off and pick-up. The campground's peaceful and quaint atmosphere is a feature in itself, offering a relaxing retreat. The friendly and helpful staff contribute significantly to the positive and welcoming environment. The proximity to other Upper Peninsula activities allows guests to easily explore the wider region while having a comfortable and well-serviced basecamp to return to.
While the reviews do not explicitly mention specific promotional offers, the high level of satisfaction and the likelihood of repeat visits suggest a strong value proposition for the price. The $10 per carload fee for non-campers to see Benny the Beard Troll could be considered a way to manage visitor traffic while also generating some revenue for the campground. Northland Outfitters Campground & Canoe / Kayak Livery Reviews
We had the best time celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary at Northland Outfitters. The Thomas Dambo troll, Benny the beardfisher, drew us here but the campgrounds themselves are immaculate. The riverfront cabin was extremely cozy and well appointed, and the bathhouses were the best we have ever come across at a campground. We will certainly be returning and hope to kayak next time! Thank you for a lovely experience 🌲🏕️
Oct 18, 2024 · Helen JohnMy mother, 6yr old son and myself stayed recently for the weekend here in Cabin 5 and we are sure to be back again! If I don’t bullet point the great things about this place I’ll end up writing an essay.-Super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. One of the gentlemen even offered to drive firewood up to our cabin.-Peaceful, quaint and clean. The campground its self is located on a river and also has a pond. It’s not very big but to us it was perfect. Quiet (I’m sure we were the loudest ones there unintentionally) and also has a space for lawn games they provide which also happened to be right outside our cabin. The bathhouses are seen being cleaning many times throughout the day and they were so much cleaner than what I’ve experienced at other campgrounds and also hotels.-Kayak, tubing, and canoe rentals directly from them with the campground being the end landing-Not far from other Upper Peninsula activities to experience (even if you’ve already done them before, ahem rock hunting 😉)-And of course, Benny the Beard Troll! What a delight to see and experience. Non-campers can walk down to see Benny just a short distance for $10 per carload. That being said visitors who were not camping were super respectful of the campers/campground just as the campers were. Everyone was so respectful about letting each other take pictures of or with the troll and being mindful.Long story short I highly recommend this as a place to stay!
Aug 29, 2024 · Emily McmanmanOur family camped here for 6 days and enjoyed every minute of our stay. We stayed in a tent, pulled a 10 foot trailer and still had plenty of room in our site. The hosts are amazing and were always available for questions or to help with any items to make our stay more comfortable. The river is beautiful and provided a very peaceful trip downstream. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back.
Jun 18, 2024 · Jim and Karen LazaroWe had absolutely the best time staying here! We had driven up a few times to see Benny and decided that we wanted to stay because the campground is so nice. We stayed at site #9 with our camper. Super convenient to the newly remodeled bathhouse and because it was the end camping spot, we didn’t feel cramped.Easily arranged a kayak trip and appreciated the very clear direction and heads-up on things we might encounter on our trip. The staff are all so friendly and helpful and we cannot wait to go back!
Aug 16, 2024 · Kim HenryWe decided to make a stop to see Benny The Fisherman Troll. It was amazing! The site is so beautiful the a river. We got there early and the staff were so great to let us in early. The store had really beautiful items to purchase and the bath house was very clean. Worth the time to visit this Northland Outfitters Campground. Love from Florida and Idaho.
