Environment and Ambiance:
The campground boasts a picturesque setting with close access to the pristine Ottawa Lake. Imagine waking up to the tranquil views of the lake and having the opportunity for a refreshing swim or simply relaxing by the shore. While a road borders the campground, some reviewers noted that the traffic noise was not overly disruptive, though it's wise to consult the campground map during booking if you prefer a site further away from the road. For those seeking a quieter experience during peak season, some visitors recommend the nearby Pinewoods campground, although Ottawa Lake itself offers its own unique charm and accessibility.
One reviewer who camped in early April highlighted the varying site characteristics, mentioning site 365 as "cool" with good distant lake views and some windbreak due to its lower position on a hill. However, they advised caution for this particular site during heavy rains. This suggests a variety of campsite options catering to different preferences and weather conditions.
Services and Facilities:
Ottawa Lake Campground prioritizes the comfort and convenience of its guests. Even during the colder months, campers appreciated the availability of very clean port-a-toilets, winter water, and a vault toilet. During the in-season, the campground expands its facilities to include multiple shower houses and flush toilets, catering to those who prefer more traditional amenities. This thoughtful provision of facilities ensures a comfortable stay regardless of the time of year you choose to visit.
The campsites themselves are described as spacious, accommodating a mix of tent and RV campers spread throughout the area. This inclusivity makes Ottawa Lake Campground an excellent choice whether you prefer sleeping under the stars in a tent or the comforts of your recreational vehicle.
The friendly and helpful nature of the Wisconsin DNR employees, including the rangers at the campground, consistently receives positive feedback. Their willingness to assist enhances the overall camping experience, making visitors feel welcome and supported.
Features and Activities:
One of the standout features of Ottawa Lake Campground is its immediate proximity to outdoor recreational opportunities. The lake itself is clean and features a small beach area, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the waterfront. For those who enjoy hiking, the renowned Scuppernong Springs nature trail is conveniently located right across the road from the campground. This trail is highly recommended by visitors as a "not to miss" experience, offering a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the Scuppernong Springs nature trail, although the rest of the park is generally dog-friendly.
The presence of both lake access and a significant nature trail directly adjacent to the campground provides a diverse range of activities for campers. You can spend your day swimming and relaxing by the lake, and then easily transition to exploring the scenic trails. This combination makes Ottawa Lake Campground an attractive destination for those seeking both water-based recreation and hiking adventures near their location.

Ottawa Lake Campground Reviews
We camped in 20-50 degree weather in early April. A cool site-365 but would never choose it if heavy rains were forecasted as it is down a hill but gives it more privacy and a bit more wind break with good distant views of the lake.We appreciated the very clean port a toilets and winter water and vault toilet. In season there are many shower houses and flush toilets for those that want.Super close access to the lake and beach but a pretty big road borders the campground so you can hear some traffic. Not terrible IMO but I saw some sites right next to the road, so check the map when booking.Rangers here were so so nice. Love Wisconsin rangers they are all amazing.During the peak months this campground is crazy busy so we prefer camping in Pinewoods campground nearby for besty and quiet. But it was closed so we booked here and I cannot complain,The Scuppernong Springs nature trail is right across the road and is a not to miss trail!!
Apr 06, 2025 · Deanne CurcioEverything about this park was nice. Sites were big with a nice mix of tent and rv campers spread through the sites. The lake is clean and has a small beach. There's a great nature trail across the highway for hiking (no dogs allowed here). The rest of the park was pretty dog friendly. The DNR employees at the park entrance were friendly and very helpful. We will definetely be camping here again.
Sep 09, 2024 · Clark KroppWe picked our spot because it was different. He did have electricity, but it also had like an upper lounge area where most sites were flat. We enjoyed our time here, we would hear the highway sometimes, but most of the time, we heard other campers or wildlife. We have a lot of fun here.
Sep 11, 2024 · Wander AmericaGreat place for a picnic, hike, or camping vacation. About 1/3 of the sites have electrical hookups. Two sites are hike-in, and there is an ADA accessible cabin. Three large reservable picnic shelters. Nice beach with shelter, changing rooms and bathrooms.Recent changes include:Lots of new sign posts to clarify and enlarge the pets-allowed areaCampsite signposts getting signage (stickers) with QR code for online registrationFuture changes:Annual sticker valid for rolling 12 months instead of calendar year effective 1/1/2025Checkout time earlier (1:00 pm) effective 1/1/2025Out of state rates increasing 1/1/2025
Oct 06, 2024 · Steve KarolekVery well used campgrounds, bathrooms are worn out , showers do have warm water, campsites are spacious and private. Limited for dog owners because small space for dog swim area and limited area for dogs to walk. (Best to leave your pup home on this one. Nice beach area with geese walking among the beach goers. Watch out for the goose poop!
