Pelican Park RV Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Craig, Missouri (64437) seeking "camping near me," Pelican Park RV Campground, located at 113 Holt 230, Craig, MO 64437, presents a relatively new option. You can contact them at (402) 245-5121 or +1 402-245-5121 for inquiries or reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a mix of positive attributes and potential drawbacks that local users should consider.
As a newer addition to the "camping near me" category in the Craig area, Pelican Park RV Campground boasts certain modern amenities. However, it's essential for prospective local campers to be aware of both the advantages and disadvantages highlighted by those who have already stayed there to make an informed decision.
Environment:
The environment of Pelican Park RV Campground is described as a "nice area to walk" with a well-kept yard that is "mowed and well kept." This suggests that the grounds are maintained and aesthetically pleasing in terms of landscaping. The campground is surrounded by a cornfield, which offers a rural setting and the potential for nice sunsets, as mentioned by one reviewer. The presence of trees allows for a view of a "beautiful lake," indicating proximity to a body of water that could be a significant natural feature of the area.
However, a notable environmental consideration is the lack of shade due to the absence of mature trees ("No trees for shade" and "It will take years for the trees to grow big enough to give shade"). This could make the campground hot and less comfortable during the summer months, particularly for activities during the day. Additionally, the campground is accessed via a "very long gravel road," which resulted in a "thick layer of dust" covering everything for one reviewer, finding its way into their belongings and camper. This dust issue, likely exacerbated by traffic on the gravel road, is a significant environmental factor to consider.
Services and Amenities:
Pelican Park RV Campground offers several key services and amenities, as noted by a satisfied reviewer:
- Full Hookups: All eight campsites are equipped with full hookups, which typically include electricity, water, and sewer connections. This is a significant advantage for RV campers seeking convenience and the ability to use all their onboard systems.
- Concrete Patios: Each of the eight sites features a concrete patio, providing a clean and level outdoor living space for campers.
- Picnic Tables: A picnic table is provided at each site, offering a dedicated area for outdoor dining and other activities.
These amenities suggest a focus on providing a comfortable and functional experience for RV travelers. However, the negative review points out potential shortcomings regarding other expected amenities or access to natural features.
Features and Activities:
The campground's proximity to a lake suggests potential features and activities related to water recreation. The campground's website (as perceived by the negative reviewer through pictures) showed "people playing in the lake and a nice dock to walk and fish off of." This implies that the lake is intended to be an accessible and usable feature for guests, offering opportunities for swimming, walking on a dock, and fishing.
However, the negative review also details a significant issue: the inability to find the access to the lake. Despite calling the owner for directions and attempting to locate it by both walking and driving, the reviewer could not find a way to reach the lake. This discrepancy between the perceived features (based on website pictures) and the actual accessibility is a crucial point for local users to be aware of.
Other potential features might include the "nice area to walk" mentioned by one reviewer, suggesting that the campground or its immediate surroundings are suitable for leisurely strolls. The rural setting, surrounded by a cornfield, might offer opportunities for observing nature and enjoying the quiet of the countryside, aside from the dust and traffic.
The negative review also mentions "mosquitos got kinda bad" later in the day, indicating that insect activity could be a factor, particularly during warmer months. This is a common issue in many outdoor locations, especially near water and agricultural fields.
The reviewer also noted that "people that live on the lake there drove by our campers live they were on a speedway," suggesting potential issues with traffic speed and noise from nearby residents, which could detract from the peacefulness of the camping experience.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal:
While specific promotional offers are not provided, Pelican Park RV Campground's appeal to local users searching for "camping near me" likely lies in its newness, the availability of full hookups and concrete patios, and the potential for lake access. The promise of a "beautiful lake" view and the possibility of swimming and fishing could be attractive to those seeking outdoor recreation close to home.
The friendly people mentioned by one reviewer ("very friendly people") could also be a draw for local campers who value a welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere. This positive social aspect can enhance the overall camping experience.
However, the significant negative feedback regarding the long gravel road leading to dust issues and the apparent lack of accessible lake access needs to be carefully considered by local users. The absence of shade is another factor that might deter some, especially during hot Nebraska summers.
Summary of Pros and Cons for Local Campers Based on Reviews:
Pros:
- Newer campground with modern facilities.
- Full hookups available at all eight sites.
- Concrete patios at each campsite.
- Picnic tables provided.
- Potential for nice sunsets due to the surrounding cornfields.
- View of a beautiful lake through the trees.
- Friendly people reported by one reviewer.
- Well-kept and mowed grounds.
Cons:
- Accessed via a very long gravel road, leading to significant dust issues.
- Apparent lack of accessible lake access despite its visual presence and implied recreational opportunities.
- No mature trees, resulting in a lack of shade.
- Mosquitoes can be problematic, especially in the evening.
- Potential for speeding traffic from nearby residents affecting the campground's peace.
Recommendations for Local Users:
Local residents considering Pelican Park RV Campground for their "camping near me" needs should weigh the provided pros and cons carefully. It might be prudent to:
- Contact the owners directly at (402) 245-5121 or +1 402-245-5121 to inquire about the current status of lake access and any measures taken to mitigate dust from the gravel road.
- Ask about any plans for adding shade in the future.
- Consider the time of year for their stay, keeping in mind the potential for heat and mosquitoes during warmer months.
- Be prepared for dust if traveling during dry conditions.
In conclusion, Pelican Park RV Campground offers newer facilities with full hookups and concrete patios, along with the potential for lake views. However, local users should be aware of the challenges reported by recent visitors, including the long, dusty gravel road access, the apparent difficulty in reaching the lake, and the lack of shade. While the friendly atmosphere and well-maintained grounds are positives, it is recommended that prospective local campers seek further clarification on the accessibility of advertised features before making a reservation.

Pelican Park RV Campground Reviews
Newer campground that is nice. The yard was mowed and well kept. No trees for shade but nice area to walk and very friendly people.
Sep 23, 2024 · Dana OermanMy wife and I will stayed here on July 29 2024. First the good. They have 8 sites, all concrete patios, picnic tables and full hookups. We could see a beautiful lake through the trees. Surrounded by cornfield, nice sunset. Now for the bad. The only way to get there is a very long gravel road. When we got there everything was covered in a thick layer of dust, it found it's way into everything. It was very hot, the pictures on the site showed people playing in the lake and a nice dock to walk and fish off of. I called the owner and she told me where the access to the lake was. We looked but could not find it, we walked there and drove there but could not find it. We gave up and went back to camp. As it got later the mosquitos got kinda bad, so we went inside. The people that live on the lake there drove by our campers live they were on a speedway. The dust settled on everything. It will take years for the trees to grow big enough to give shade. I will not be back.
Aug 02, 2024 · Ed CatoeMy husband, Edward and I stayed here in early September of 2022. We had no idea how secluded the park was but once we got to the RV park we thought we were in Heaven. The sunsets are gorgeous and because of the time of year that we went, we felt like we had reserved the entire park for ourselves. My husband said he felt like he was on the movie set for 'Field of Dreams'. Next time we will definitely shop before we arrive but over all, this is the park we talk about the most vs. all of the (20) parks we went to on that trip which lasted over 5 months. Booking was easy!! We so enjoyed staying here and will catch you again in the future. Greetings from North Carolina!!PS. I was going to post pictures but don't see any option to do that on your Google review page. If you want some great sunset pictures for your website, please let us know.
Jun 06, 2023 · Tammie Davis ChambersI have spent over a month here. Very quiet gravel road getting in but not too bad super nice people nice pull-through sites the only thing that I would have to say bad about this place and it's not really bad is they need some shade trees which they have some planted so in the near future they'll have shade trees here. They are adding stuff as they go along like they were telling me the other day they are working on getting pedal boats or kayaks. I am probably going to stay another month here due to working in the area I strongly recommend this site 😃
Jun 25, 2023 · David PennockThis is a very aptly named RV park as we saw huge flocks of pelicans when we were in the area. Although we stayed at the state park across the lake. We think this would be a good alternative for self contained Rv's. It has to be much more quiet and less crowded. Access is via small county roads so a map/app would be advised. We visited May 2023.
