Pine River National Forest Campground Introduce
Searching for "camping near me" that combines the beauty of a national forest with spacious and private campsites? Look no further than Pine River National Forest Campground, situated near the charming town of Glennie, Michigan. Located within the vast Huron-Manistee National Forests, this campground offers a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, whether you're an RV enthusiast or a tent camper. The feedback from visitors highlights the generous size of the campsites and the appealing natural features, making it a noteworthy destination for your next outdoor adventure.
One of the standout features of Pine River National Forest Campground, as consistently mentioned by campers, is the spaciousness of the individual sites. One reviewer enthusiastically described fitting "an RV, a truck with a trailer, and two tents with room yet for chairs around a campfire." This ample space ensures a comfortable and uncrowded camping experience, allowing families and groups to spread out and enjoy their surroundings without feeling cramped. This is a significant advantage for those who appreciate having enough room for their vehicles, camping gear, and recreational activities right at their site.
In addition to being spacious, the campsites at Pine River National Forest Campground also offer a degree of privacy, thanks to the presence of "some trees in between." This natural separation enhances the feeling of seclusion and allows campers to enjoy a more intimate connection with nature. The shade provided by the trees is also a welcome feature, especially during the warmer months, contributing to a more pleasant and comfortable camping experience.
For those who enjoy exploring the outdoors on foot, Pine River National Forest Campground offers access to at least one trail. While one reviewer noted a slight disappointment with the length of a particular trail, mentioning it was only ".2 mile," they also highlighted that it led to a "beautiful view." Even a short trail with a rewarding scenic overlook can provide a pleasant opportunity for a quick nature walk and a chance to appreciate the surrounding landscape. Another reviewer mentioned "a trail that leads to a beautiful little creek," indicating the presence of a longer or perhaps a different trail offering its own unique natural attraction. The sound and sight of a flowing creek can add a special element of tranquility to a camping experience.
As a campground within a national forest, Pine River National Forest Campground likely offers a more rustic and natural camping experience compared to privately owned campgrounds with extensive amenities. Visitors should typically expect basic facilities such as vault toilets, potable water sources (it's always wise to confirm), picnic tables, and fire rings at each campsite. Amenities like electrical hookups, showers, and laundry facilities are less common in national forest campgrounds, so campers should come prepared for a more self-sufficient stay.
The location within the Huron-Manistee National Forests positions Pine River National Forest Campground within a vast area of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The surrounding national forest offers extensive hiking trails, opportunities for wildlife viewing, fishing in nearby rivers and lakes, and scenic drives. While the reviews specifically mention trails within the campground, the proximity to the larger national forest suggests that more extensive hiking and exploration options are likely available within a short drive. Glennie, the nearby town, may offer basic services and supplies for campers.

Pine River National Forest Campground Reviews
We enjoyed the stay but was kind of disappointed by the small trail. We were expecting a longer one as we like to hike. However the .2 mile trail did lead to a beautiful view. Over all it was a very nice experience.
Jul 22, 2024 · Jamie HollinsThis is a nice campground, and I'm kind of picky! The sites aren't really close together, with some trees in between for privacy. They are also quite spacious - we fit an RV, a truck with a trailer, and two tents with room yet for chairs around a campfire. There's a trail that leads to a beautiful little creek. Would stay here again!
Jun 28, 2023 · Lisa GibbsI didn't stay, only used it as a base camp (parking) while fishing. The campground is set in tall pines and the sites are somewhat screened from each other. Seemed quiet and remote. The CCC pavilion is really nice with a couple of picnic tables and bench seating around the inside periphery . It was clean and the campground was clean also. There are 2 outhouses. I didn't find the water pump so I can't comment on that. The river is clear with rock cobble and sand about 15 to 20 feet wide and a foot or less deep at the campground. Very brushy here. Short spinning rod. Fishing was ok for small sub legal brookies. The ticks were bad. Lots of ticks. I will go back, though. If you go, bring everything with you- its remote.
May 03, 2021 · Christopher BishopBeautiful place. Peaceful but there's no well. You have to bring your own water. At least on 7/28/21 you do.
