This campground loop is situated right by the water, providing easy access for swimming and offering picturesque lake views from many campsites. The features highlighted by visitors suggest a family-friendly atmosphere with accessible water depths for children and those less comfortable in deeper water, along with generally level campsites.
Environment and Location: Poplar Point Loop H is located near Apex, North Carolina, placing it within the Piedmont region, known for its lakes and varied landscapes. The reviews consistently emphasize the proximity of the campsites to the water, with one reviewer noting water in "every direction" from the loop. This lakefront setting provides a calm and potentially scenic environment for camping. The water temperature in early June is reported as warm enough for swimming, suggesting a comfortable experience for those looking to enjoy the lake. The presence of shallow water (around 3 feet deep on the far side of the loop) makes it particularly suitable for children and less confident swimmers. While a dedicated "beach" is mentioned as being a short drive away, the water and sandy areas right in front of some campsites provide an alternative play area for children. The campsites themselves are described as nice and level, which is a significant advantage for setting up tents or parking RVs comfortably. The availability of "lots of natural foliage" for starting fires adds to the traditional camping feel, and the large size of the lots offers ample space for various camping setups.
Services and Amenities: Information regarding specific services and amenities at Poplar Point Loop H is partially available through the customer reviews. The presence of a "shower house" is noted, indicating that restroom and shower facilities are provided. One reviewer mentioned that the shower house was well lit, which is a positive aspect for safety and usability. However, this same reviewer also raised concerns about the cleanliness of the showers, describing them as "slimmy" with "wads of hair" present throughout their trip, suggesting infrequent cleaning. This is a crucial point for potential visitors to consider. While water is readily accessible near the campsites, details about potable water sources or hookups (if any) are not provided. The mention of level campsites is a positive amenity for ease of setup. The natural foliage available for fires suggests that campfires are permitted, although specific regulations regarding fire pits or firewood provision are not mentioned. The proximity to a lake allows for swimming, and the shallow areas are particularly family-friendly. While a beach is a short drive away, the immediate lakeside access offers a convenient alternative for water play.

The beautiful lake views, particularly the sunset views described by one reviewer, enhance the camping experience. The level campsites are a practical advantage for setting up camp. The large size of the lots and the availability of natural foliage for fires contribute to a comfortable and traditional camping experience. While the close proximity of sites might reduce privacy to some extent, one reviewer noted that there was "enough distance for some privacy." The well-lit shower house is a positive safety feature, although the cleanliness issues reported are a significant drawback.
Customer Experiences: Customer reviews for Poplar Point Loop H offer a generally positive view of the camping experience, with some caveats. One reviewer described it as a "nice calm loop, right by the water in every direction," emphasizing the warm and accessible water for swimming, especially the shallow areas for children. Another reviewer highlighted the "beautiful lake view" and the "sunset right in front of us every evening." They also appreciated the proximity of the water, allowing their children to play in the water and sand right by their site. However, this reviewer raised a significant concern about the cleanliness of the shower house, recommending water shoes or flip flops due to the "slimmy" showers and accumulated hair. Despite this issue, their overall experience, particularly for the children, was positive. These reviews suggest that Poplar Point Loop H offers a lovely lakeside setting with family-friendly water access, but potential visitors should be aware of the reported cleanliness issues with the shower facilities.

Poplar Point Loop H Reviews
Nice calm loop, right by the water in every direction. Water is warm enough (early june) to walk in and have a swim. Towards the far side of the loop, the water is about 3 feet deep, which is perfect for children or those who have trouble swimming in deeper water. The sites are nice and level, and the rocks gave no issues. Lots of natural foliage to help start fires, and the lots are large.
Jun 14, 2023 · a g (AcornGOD)We had a beautiful lake view. We saw the sunset right infront of us every evening. The sites were close together but enough distance for some privacy. The shower house was well lit. The showers looked slimmy. Wads of hair were in there are entire trip so not cleaned oftain. Definitely wear water shoes or flip flops in the shower house. The beach is just a short drive, but the kids did play in the water and sand right in front of our site. Overall, the kids and I really enjoyed it.
