Prairie Lake Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Holton, Kansas area seeking a "camping near me" experience, Prairie Lake Campground, located at 14824 246 Rd, Holton, KS 66436, USA, offers a lakefront property managed by the City of Holton. You can reach the caretaker, Kyle Claycamp, at (785) 364-4216 or +1 785-364-4216. Based on the available customer reviews, Prairie Lake Campground provides a pleasant setting for a local getaway, with opportunities for lake activities, though it's important to note the specific amenities and procedures outlined.
The environment of Prairie Lake Campground is centered around a "nice Lake property," suggesting a scenic waterfront setting. The presence of a "swimming area with a beach" indicates that visitors can enjoy swimming and relaxing by the water. This lakefront environment is likely a significant draw for those seeking a local camping experience that includes water-based recreation. The allowance for "fishing & boating" further enhances the appeal for outdoor enthusiasts, providing opportunities to engage in these popular lake activities. However, it's crucial to note that all fishing and boating activities must comply with the laws of the state of Kansas, and a "no boat wake idle speed only" rule is in place, likely to preserve the tranquility of the lake and ensure the safety of swimmers and other boaters.
In terms of services, Prairie Lake Campground offers camping with different pricing structures based on electricity usage. Camping without electricity is available for $8 per night, while campsites with electricity cost $10 per night. This affordable pricing makes it an accessible option for local campers. However, it's important to be aware of the payment procedure: there is "no box to put your money," so if the lake caretaker, Kyle Claycamp, is not at his house located at the gate, campers should go ahead and set up, and he will come around to collect the fee. This informal system relies on the caretaker's presence and communication with campers.
A significant limitation to note regarding services is the absence of showers at Prairie Lake Campground. For campers who value this amenity, this could be a deciding factor. Additionally, the only water available is located at the gate and is explicitly marked "non drinking" and designated "just for grey water." This means campers must bring their own potable water for drinking, cooking, and other hygiene needs beyond grey water disposal. This self-sufficiency regarding water is a crucial aspect for potential visitors to consider when planning their trip.
The features of Prairie Lake Campground primarily revolve around its lake access and the permitted activities. The swimming area with a beach provides a dedicated space for water-based fun. The allowance for fishing and boating caters to those who enjoy these recreational pursuits. The "no boat wake idle speed only" rule on the lake is a feature designed to maintain a peaceful environment and ensure safety. The availability of campsites with and without electricity offers flexibility for different camping setups and needs. The role of the lake caretaker, Kyle Claycamp, who manages the campground and collects fees, is also a key feature of the operational aspect of this local camping area.
The positive sentiment from one reviewer, stating, "This place is pretty nice if u wanna have a little get away!! The family sure enjoyed the time away!" suggests that despite the limited amenities, Prairie Lake Campground offers a pleasant and enjoyable experience for those seeking a local escape. The fact that a family enjoyed their time indicates its potential appeal for family camping trips in the Holton area.

In summary, Prairie Lake Campground near Holton, KS, offers a budget-friendly lakefront camping experience for local users seeking a "camping near me" option. Its key features include a swimming area with a beach, opportunities for fishing and boating (with specific regulations), and campsites available with or without electricity. However, potential visitors must be aware of the limited amenities, specifically the absence of showers and the availability of only non-potable water at the gate, requiring campers to bring their own drinking water. The payment system relies on the lake caretaker collecting fees. Despite these limitations, the positive feedback from a family suggests that Prairie Lake Campground can be a "pretty nice" place for a local getaway. Contacting caretaker Kyle Claycamp directly is recommended for any further inquiries or promotional information.

Jul 30, 2024 · Patty Kakes McGeeLake was great, beautiful area, great fishing area, We caught a 3 pound channel cat, the Nazi administration wasn't to keen on our existence though, a lot like 1942. When we went for a swim at about 9:43pm they forced us out against our will and headed us towards the showers. As we exited the showers they accused us of not paying to enter the park, which we clearly did at 5:10pm and to further explain this the only place to put money was in a small unlocked black box, and after arguing the case for around 5 minutes we gave in hoping money would satisfy thier hatred of us. Marching back to the camp site we thought it was all over... then BOOM Nazis pulling up to our concentration camp site and about 20 Minutes of trying to explain that there was in fact a parking space where we had our car and that Hammocks are not tents and are also not alien technology, they emptied us of our wallets and took our tags and adresses. They might as well have had tattooed numbers on our arms and put stars on our chests to identify us for further harassment....also there are no attractive ladies here, if it wasn't bad enough!
