Prairie Ridge Park/ Lake Rathbun Introduce
For local users in Iowa seeking "camping near me" with picturesque scenery, Prairie Ridge Park/Lake Rathbun, located in Moravia, IA 52571, USA, offers a unique camping experience overlooking the expansive Lake Rathbun. Based on customer reviews, this campground boasts an amazing view of the lake from its hilltop location, making it a potentially attractive destination for those seeking natural beauty. While the setting appears to be a significant draw, reviews also highlight certain aspects of the facilities that local users should be aware of when planning their visit.
The environment of Prairie Ridge Park is undoubtedly one of its key selling points. Situated on a hill that overlooks Lake Rathbun, the campground provides campers with stunning panoramic views of the water. This elevated position offers a visual treat and creates a serene backdrop for a camping getaway. The presence of hiking trails suggests opportunities for exploring the natural surroundings and enjoying the landscape beyond the immediate campsite. Furthermore, the easy access down to the lake enhances the appeal for those interested in water-related activities such as fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the shoreline. The combination of hilltop views and lake access creates a diverse environment for outdoor enthusiasts.
In terms of services and features, Prairie Ridge Park/Lake Rathbun offers water and electric hookups for RV and camper trailers, catering to the needs of RV travelers. This is a significant convenience, allowing for a more comfortable and connected camping experience. Tent camping is also available, providing options for those who prefer a more traditional camping style. For families with young children, a playground is present on-site, offering a dedicated space for kids to play and burn off energy. The availability of hiking trails caters to those who enjoy walking and exploring the outdoors. However, the reviews also point out some areas that could be improved. One reviewer mentioned that the shower house was "filthy," despite the presence of an attendant and volunteer nearby. This is a significant concern for hygiene-conscious campers. Another point of feedback was regarding the vault toilets, which some felt needed to be pumped more often and could benefit from a "little wipe down." Additionally, there was a concerning report about the water smelling like sewage straight from the spicket, advising campers to "definitely don't show up without water." These comments regarding the cleanliness and quality of the facilities are important considerations for potential visitors.
Despite the concerns about the facilities, one reviewer noted that the campground is "quite," which can be a significant plus for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing camping experience away from noise and crowds. The tranquility of the environment might outweigh some of the facility issues for campers who prioritize peace and quiet. Another reviewer, while acknowledging the need for improvements to the on-site bathrooms and noting that the shower house is a drive from the camping area, still stated that they had a "great time" overall and that Prairie Ridge Park would continue to be a favorite. This suggests that the positive aspects, such as the lake views and the overall experience, can still be compelling despite the drawbacks.
The information provided does not detail specific recreational amenities beyond the playground and hiking trails. It is unknown if the campground offers other features such as fire pits, picnic tables, swimming areas (beyond lake access), boat ramps, or dump stations for RVs. Local users seeking these specific amenities may need to contact the campground directly for more information.

In conclusion, for local users in Iowa looking for "camping near me" with breathtaking views of Lake Rathbun, Prairie Ridge Park offers a compelling natural setting. The availability of water and electric hookups caters to RV campers, and tent camping is also an option. The presence of a playground and hiking trails adds to its appeal for families and outdoor enthusiasts. However, potential visitors should be aware of the concerns raised in the reviews regarding the cleanliness of the shower house, the maintenance of the vault toilets, and the quality of the water supply. It is strongly recommended that campers bring their own water. Despite these issues, the quiet atmosphere and the stunning lake views appear to be significant positives for many visitors. Local users are encouraged to weigh these factors and perhaps contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on the condition of the facilities and any available promotions before making a reservation.

Shower house was filthy even though the attendant and volunteer live right there by it.. vault toilets could be pumped more often . And just a little wipe down.. water smelled like sewage straight out of the spicket. Definitely don't show up with out water.. but it's quite and that's a plus.
Jun 26, 2023 · CThis campground sits on a hill overlooking Lake Rathbun which gives campers an amazing view of the lake while they stay. There are water/electric hook-ups for RV/Camper Trailers. Tent camping is also available. A playground for the little ones. Plenty of hiking trails and easy access down to the lake. Shower house is a drive from camping area and bathrooms on site could be improved. All in all had a great time and will continue to be a favorite of mine.
