PSEA Camp Wishon Introduce
For those local users seeking a fantastic outdoor experience and searching for "Camping Near Me," PSEA Camp Wishon presents an exceptional opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Sierra National Forest. Located conveniently at 1390 Willow Pass Rd #240, Bass Lake, CA 93604, USA, this campground offers a diverse array of accommodations and activities, catering to a wide range of campers, from adventurous solo travelers to families and large groups. While the primary contact number is (925) 246-6200 or mobile phone +1 925-246-6200, this is generally for the PSEA organization; for specific campground inquiries and the most up-to-date reservation information, it's always advisable to verify directly with the camp management or through official booking channels.
PSEA Camp Wishon is set within a truly picturesque natural environment, characterized by abundant foliage including towering manzanita, oak, cedar, and pine trees. This natural canopy provides ample shade, crucial for comfortable summer camping, and creates a sense of privacy for individual campsites. Some privileged sites even offer stunning lake views of Bass Lake, allowing campers to wake up to serene and inspiring vistas. Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,500 to 4,000 feet, the camp experiences warm midsummer days that are often complemented by cool, refreshing nights, providing a welcome escape from the heat of lower elevations. A frequently noted feature is the soothing sound of the nearby river, which adds to the tranquil ambiance and often provides a natural buffer, enhancing the feeling of seclusion between campsites. The campground seamlessly integrates with the surrounding forest, with large trees, natural rock formations, and untamed landscapes contributing to its rustic and authentic charm.
PSEA Camp Wishon offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience for all guests. Each campsite, whether for RVs or tents, typically comes equipped with essential features such as a picnic table and a fire pit (or BBQ pit), perfect for outdoor meals and evening campfires. For RV enthusiasts, full hookup sites are available, accommodating vehicles up to a certain length with space for a tow car. Tent campers will appreciate that their sites generally include water and electricity, along with a covered shed, and are limited to two 3-person tents per site to maintain comfort and space. Clean restrooms with showers are conveniently located throughout the campground for both RV and tent campers. For food storage, which is paramount in this wildlife-rich area, bear boxes are typically available at sites, though campers are always advised to verify their functionality upon arrival and practice bear-safe food storage habits.
Beyond individual sites, the campground provides communal facilities. Laundry facilities are usually available, particularly during peak season, making longer stays more convenient. Ice machines are also on-site for easy access to refreshments. For group gatherings, there are two community-use barbecues located near the Clubhouse recreation room. The Clubhouse kitchen can often be reserved daily at no charge for family events, with a cleanup requirement for members. It is advisable for campers to bring their own potable water or confirm its current availability, as some past experiences suggest on-site potable water might not always be readily accessible. Campfire wood can often be purchased from the campground host, and guests are generally permitted to gather fallen wood from the forest, provided they adhere to all fire regulations and do not cut down trees.
The allure of PSEA Camp Wishon lies significantly in its prime location near Bass Lake and the vast array of recreational activities available, perfectly aligning with the "Camping Near Me" category. Bass Lake is a vibrant hub for water-based recreation, including swimming, motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, and excellent fishing opportunities for species like bass, trout, bluegill, and catfish. Nearby rental services make it easy to access ski boats, jet skis, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards, allowing campers to fully enjoy the lake's comfortably warm summer waters, which often reach around 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Beyond the lake, the surrounding Sierra National Forest offers extensive opportunities for land-based adventures. Numerous hiking trails cater to various skill levels, from interpretive walks to more challenging treks. Popular trails in the vicinity include Willow Creek, Goat Mountain, Spring Cove, and the Way-of-the-Mono Interpretive Trail. The campground also provides access to the Doyle Springs Trail, which leads to the significant Wishon Grove of giant sequoias and the Mountain Home State Forest area. Other popular activities in the broader region include horseback riding, mountain biking, and rock climbing. During the winter months, as the camp is open year-round, activities like snowshoeing and stargazing become prominent. Additionally, Yosemite National Park is just a scenic 45-minute drive away, providing access to further winter recreation such as ice skating, snow parks, and skiing at Badger Pass.
Within the campground itself, PSEA Camp Wishon often organizes various events during the peak season, fostering a sense of community. These can include ice cream socials, potlucks, and communal campfire nights. The recreation room typically features amenities like a pool table, ping pong table, shuffleboard, arcade games, and board games. Outdoor activities such as basketball and horseshoes are also common. The camp encourages family engagement with events like a 4th of July parade, and campers are welcome to bring bikes and scooters, with helmet requirements for children. Educational programs may also be offered on summer weekends, and a gift area might provide books on astronomy, outdoor safety, and local history.
PSEA Camp Wishon, as part of the Pacific Service Employees Association (PSEA), provides a unique camping experience that often boasts a strong community atmosphere, particularly appealing to its members. The availability of cabin rentals alongside RV and tent sites offers flexibility for diverse camping preferences. Its status as one of only two PSEA camps open year-round makes it an attractive destination for off-season getaways. While specific promotional details may be primarily targeted at PSEA members, the camp's excellent amenities and prime location remain a draw for the general public. Campsite pricing can vary, with potential additional fees for extra vehicles. Typical maximum stays are around 14 days, with minimum stays usually required on weekends and during holidays.
Based on genuine customer feedback, the level of service at PSEA Camp Wishon has received mixed reviews, which is an important consideration for prospective visitors. Some campers have lauded the staff as "GREAT!" and "friendly, knowledgeable and professional," noting minimal wait times. Conversely, other reviews describe the staff as "very cold" and treating visitors "more like an inconvenience than a member," suggesting a potential inconsistency in customer service experiences. It appears that while the camp's natural setting and core camping amenities (such as clean facilities, bear boxes, and access to outdoor activities) are generally well-regarded, individual interactions with staff can vary. Therefore, potential campers should manage their expectations regarding the level of direct customer service. Despite these varied service remarks, the overwhelming positive sentiment revolves around the camp's natural beauty and its ideal location for accessing a wealth of outdoor adventures.

PSEA Camp Wishon Reviews
This credit union has been great for me in the convenience side by providing ATM fee reimbursement for any ATM withdraws when charged by the other bank they give it back which is super cool! I would however rate them as poor on service. The staff at all the branches are very cold but if you don't need to interact with them the practices of the bank are great. I think the service is a reflection of the upper management. I experience this low service at this location and in pleasant hill at that branch so it's pretty much consistent. They treat you more like an inconvenience then a member lol.
