Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday Introduce
For local residents in the Richmond and surrounding areas of Virginia seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines outdoor relaxation with the thrill of a major amusement park, Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday, located at 10061 Kings Dominion Blvd, Doswell, VA 23047, USA, offers a compelling destination. Situated just a few minutes away from the popular Kings Dominion theme park, this KOA Holiday campground provides a range of accommodation options, including RV sites and cabins, along with convenient amenities and services tailored for families and park-goers alike. When local users browse platforms under the category "camping near me" looking for a family-friendly campground with easy access to entertainment, Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday stands out as a highly convenient choice.
Based on customer reviews, the campground offers a generally positive experience. For RV campers, full hook-up sites are available, catering to the needs of those traveling with larger rigs, as one reviewer with a 33' RV noted. While concrete pads might not be universally available, the gravel back-in sites, though potentially requiring leveling blocks as mentioned by a guest, provide the necessary utility connections. The presence of mature hardwoods and evergreens throughout the campground contributes to a pleasant environment, offering plenty of shade in many areas, although some sections might be less shaded. This natural setting enhances the appeal for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience with a comfortable and scenic backdrop.
A standout feature and significant perk of Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday is the free shuttle bus service to and from Kings Dominion. This amenity is repeatedly praised in the reviews for its convenience, making it incredibly easy for campers to visit the amusement park without the hassle of parking. Tickets for Kings Dominion are also sold at the reservation desk, streamlining the process even for those who might not have initially planned a park visit. This seamless access to a major attraction is a major draw for local families and thrill-seekers looking for "camping near me" that offers more than just a place to stay.
The campground also boasts "great" bathhouses, according to a reviewer who, despite not needing them regularly, made a point to check them out. This suggests that the facilities are well-maintained and clean, which is a crucial factor for many local users when selecting a "camping near me" option, especially for those who prefer not to rely solely on their RV's facilities or who are staying in cabins.
One important point of consideration for potential visitors is a specific section of the campground, identified as having water and electric-only hookups, which appears to experience culvert draining issues. This has resulted in some standing water in ditches, particularly in the area across from the store's front door, along roads like "Dominator Drive." Campers staying in this section are advised to come prepared with bug spray and citronella, especially during warmer and wetter periods. Local users booking sites should be aware of this potential issue and might want to inquire about site availability in other areas of the campground if they are concerned about drainage and insects.
For those seeking cabin accommodations as their "camping near me" option, Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday offers cabins with lofts that are highly regarded by a frequent visitor who stays 3-4 times a year. These cabins are described as "so much fun" and come with the convenience of provided linen and towels. A minor drawback mentioned is the firmness of the pillows, with a recommendation to bring personal pillows for those who prefer softer options. The shuttle service to Kings Dominion is also a major plus for cabin guests, with friendly and enjoyable drivers. The on-site store is well-equipped with essentials for a weekend trip, including ice cream, adding to the convenience for local campers who might have forgotten something or want a treat.
While the pool was noted as being closed during winter and opening weekend visits, its presence suggests a seasonal amenity that would likely be a welcome addition for local families staying during the warmer months. The cabins with lofts also feature safety-conscious design elements, such as three emergency exit windows in the upper loft that can swing wide open for ventilation or as an escape route in case of fire. This attention to safety and comfort enhances the appeal of the cabins for local users looking for a secure and enjoyable "camping near me" experience.
The frequent cabin visitor highly recommends Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday to anyone staying at Kings Dominion, emphasizing its quiet atmosphere despite its proximity to the amusement park. This balance of convenience to a major attraction while still offering a peaceful camping environment is a significant selling point for local families and individuals seeking a "camping near me" that caters to both relaxation and entertainment.
While the reviews provide extensive insights into the environment, services, and features, specific promotional information is not included. Local users interested in potential discounts, seasonal rates, or package deals, especially those combining camping with Kings Dominion tickets, should contact the campground directly at (804) 876-3500 or +1 804-876-3500. Information about KOA membership benefits, which often include discounts on stays, might also be relevant for local KOA members.
In conclusion, Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday offers a well-rounded "camping near me" experience for local residents in the Richmond area, particularly those planning a visit to Kings Dominion. With a range of RV sites and comfortable loft cabins, along with valuable amenities like a free shuttle to the amusement park, clean bathhouses, and a convenient store, it caters to both short getaways and extended stays. While some areas of the campground may have drainage issues and firm pillows in the cabins are noted, the overall positive feedback, especially regarding the convenience and friendly service, makes this KOA Holiday a strong contender for a local camping adventure with easy access to major entertainment.

Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Holiday Reviews
Good experience at this campground with our 33’. We had a full hook-up site. We wanted a concrete pad but I guess none were available. The gravel back-in site was not even close to level, so be prepared with your leveling blocks.Mature hardwoods and evergreens. Plenty of shade where we were, though some parts aren’t shaded.Best perk: free shuttle bus to and from Kings Dominion, which is only a few minutes away. Tickets are sold at the reservation desk, making it super easy and convenient to go, even if you didn’t initially plan to.Bathhouses are great, too. Though I don’t usually need one, I do go check them out.One word of note is there is a section of the campground - seems to be water and electric only - that appears to have culvert draining issues, as there’s some standing water in ditches. Be sure to have bug spray and citronella if you’re there. On the map, it’s the section directly across from the store’s front door. “Dominator Drive” is one of the roads there.
Apr 19, 2025 · Casey HigginsWe stay here about 3-4 times a year in the cabins with the loft. It is so much fun ! They provide linen and towels which is nice. Only downside is the pillows r really firm so definitely bring ur own pillows if u don’t want to wake up a lot lol. But I e absolutely love the shuttle service to and from the park. Driver r really nice and fun to chat with. I like to sit in the back of the bus because I’m the cool kid 😂. The store has everything u may need on a weekend trip even ice cream. I can’t say anything about the pool because every time we go the pool is closed because we go in winter or opening weekend. I really like how the upper loft of the cabin has 3 emergency exit windows that swing way out to provide a nice breeze or a good exit in a fire. I will definitely be returning here with the family. I would highly recommend this place to anyone staying at kings dominion. It’s quiet also.
Mar 31, 2025 · Big web 45To clarify, the 'rooms' for me are the campground RV sites.Very well maintained campground, awesome staff! Great rates!Free shuttle to Kings Dominion Theme Park.I would highly recommend!!
Mar 31, 2025 · Gary MoyerWe used KOA for a 2 night stop while traveling south. Easy on/off from I-95 traveling with RV. We were there in the off-season. Amusement park was closed. Staff was fantastic, and the park store was well stocked with necessities. Did not use laundry or bathrooms.
Dec 05, 2024 · Stephen AdamsVery clean, went in the office season so it was quiet. Not like most KOAs, a lot more corporate than we are used to.Not overly outgoing or friendly in the office/store. The prices for items in the store are more like theme park prices, which was a little bit of a shock. The cleaning and grounds staff were friendly and working hard.
