Rochester / Marion KOA Journey Introduce
For local residents in Minnesota and those searching within the "camping near me" category, the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey, located at 5232 65th Ave SE, Rochester, MN 55904, USA, presents itself as a familiar option under the well-known KOA (Kampgrounds of America) brand. KOA campgrounds typically offer a range of amenities and services aimed at providing a comfortable and convenient camping experience for various types of travelers, including tent campers and RV enthusiasts. However, recent customer reviews for this specific location present a mixed picture, highlighting both positive aspects and significant negative experiences that potential visitors should consider.
One particularly concerning review details a profoundly negative encounter with a staff member. The reviewer recounts a late arrival and payment of $38.66 for a tent setup, noting generally positive experiences at other KOA locations. However, they were allegedly woken up rudely at 9 am by a different female employee who aggressively questioned their presence, claiming they hadn't paid and demanding they leave. Despite the reviewer stating the exact amount paid and the site number, the employee reportedly continued to insist they hadn't paid, threatened to call the police, and proceeded to open the office. Feeling harassed and wanting to avoid further conflict, the reviewer packed up and left immediately, labeling it the "most Horrible KOA experience EVER!" This review raises serious concerns about staff communication, customer service, and the handling of payment confirmations.
In contrast, another review offers a more positive perspective, describing the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey as a "really nice koa overall." This reviewer specifically mentions that "the pool filter wasn't broken" and that there were "clean bathrooms," both of which are important amenities for campers. They also noted that "the owners were very friendly," which stands in stark contrast to the experience described in the negative review. This positive reviewer indicated that their experience would have been five stars were it not for "drunk campers swearing and saying vulgar and crude things in front of kids." They astutely point out that this behavior is "not the koas fault," suggesting that the campground itself maintained a pleasant environment, and they still considered it "a nice koa," hoping future campers would not encounter similar disruptive guests.
Considering these contrasting reviews, it is challenging to definitively characterize the environment of the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey. The positive review suggests a generally pleasant setting with well-maintained amenities like a functioning pool and clean bathrooms. The friendly demeanor of the owners, as reported, would also contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. However, the negative review paints a picture of potential issues with staff interactions and a lack of professionalism in handling guest situations. The mention of disruptive behavior from other campers in the positive review indicates that, like any public space, the environment can be influenced by the conduct of individual guests, which may be beyond the direct control of the campground management.
The services and features typically offered at a KOA Journey campground often include a range of options to accommodate different camping preferences. These usually include tent sites, RV sites with various hookup options (water, electric, sewer), restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and recreational amenities. The positive review mentions a pool and clean bathrooms, which are common features at KOA locations. The negative review mentions paying for a "tent setup," implying the availability of tent sites. Given that KOA campgrounds often cater to families, it is also possible that the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey offers additional amenities such as a playground, Wi-Fi access, and a camp store. However, the provided reviews do not offer comprehensive details about all available services and features. Potential campers should verify specific amenities based on their needs.
Neither of the provided reviews mentions any specific promotional information. KOA campgrounds often have national and local promotions, such as discounts for KOA Rewards members, seasonal specials, or package deals. Local users interested in potential promotions at the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey should check the official KOA website or contact the campground directly to inquire about any current offers or discounts that might be available for their desired dates of stay.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Rochester, Minnesota area, the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey presents a familiar brand with potentially appealing amenities like a pool and clean bathrooms, as highlighted in one review. The friendly owners mentioned in the positive review could also contribute to a pleasant stay. However, the serious allegations of rude and unprofessional behavior from a staff member in the negative review cannot be ignored and should give potential campers pause. It underscores the importance of clear communication and accurate record-keeping on the part of the campground management to avoid such distressing situations. While disruptive fellow campers might be an occasional issue at any campground, the way the staff handles guest interactions is crucial for a positive overall experience.
Given the conflicting feedback, local users considering the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey should weigh the potential benefits of its amenities against the reported negative customer service experience. It would be prudent to seek more recent reviews from various sources to get a broader understanding of the current state of the campground's service and environment. Direct contact with the campground management to inquire about their policies, procedures for handling payments and guest issues, and the availability of specific amenities might also be a wise step before making a reservation. While one reviewer had a "really nice koa" experience, the other's "most Horrible KOA experience EVER!" serves as a significant cautionary tale.
In conclusion, the Rochester / Marion KOA Journey near Rochester, Minnesota, offers the potential for a pleasant camping experience with amenities like a pool and clean bathrooms, and reportedly friendly owners. However, a concerning negative review detailing rude and unprofessional staff behavior raises serious questions about customer service consistency. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these contrasting experiences and conduct further research before deciding to stay at this KOA location. Checking for more recent reviews and directly contacting the campground for information about their services and policies is highly recommended to ensure a satisfactory camping trip.

Rochester / Marion KOA Journey Reviews
Worst KOA ever!I had a late call to a guy employee.. I paid $38.66 for a tent setup.Everything, was good and I usually have good interactions at other KOA's I've stayed at. Well, I was rudely woken up at 9am by by a different woman employee. Yelling until I woke up asking me what the hell I was doing there.I woke up and crawled out of my tent. To find her standing next to her Grey SUV telling me to leave and that I shouldn't be there because I didn't pay! I politely told I was a late arrival. She angrily told me that I wasn't and I need to leave. So, I told her the exact amount and which lot I paid for. She, still angrily responded telling I need to go because I didn't pay!I said: check your receipts, it's there. I'm going back to bed. She said NO YOU DIDN'T AND YOU NEED TO LEAVE! I'M GOING CALL THE COPS!She then jumped in her truck went over to the office and went to go open it.I wasn't wanting to deal with anymore unnecessary issues. So, I grabbed my tent with everything inside it and threw it in the back of my truck and left immediately! The most Horrible KOA experience EVER!
Apr 29, 2025 · Round Dance & Powwow VidsA really nice koa overall the pool filter wasn't broken and there were cleanbathrooms and the owners were very. friendly. It would be 5 stars but their were drunk campers swearing and saying vulgar and crude things in front of kids and this is not the koas fault so this is still a nice koa just hope those campers aren't there when your camping here.
Oct 24, 2024 · Jack WalkerWe just got home from our stay at Rochester Marion KOA and what a disappointment! We have 2 small children so we were excited to have a pool and playground at our visit. The playground has not been kept up, I was fearful the the kids would fall through the boards they were so old and rotten. They just reopened the pool after a broken filter repair but weather wasn’t right for swimming. They have an RC car race track that was so overgrown with weeds and grass it wasn’t even usable. Friday evening the restrooms were out of toilet paper and one of the toilets was backed up. And this was after office hours so no one to restock and resolve the toilet issue. The bathrooms were very outdated. It appears this park is just not kept up as needed. This is right off the highway so traffic noises all night if that bothers you as well or if you’re in a tent. We’ve heard good things about other KOA parks before, so thought this would be a fun stay and worth it. This really was upsetting for the price we paid.
Jun 10, 2024 · Alissa AntonAs other reviewers have suggested, this place needs some updating/maintainence. The amenities for the kids were a bust. The playground is falling apart, the pool dirty, and the volleyball net (which is all ripped up) sits in an area of overgrown grass. The grass at our camp site was a bit long too, which doesn't help with the summer bugs. The sites themselves were spacious with lots of shade, and the bathrooms were clean, which we appreciated. This was just a one night stay for us to break up a longer drive, but any longer and we would have had to venture out for entertainment.
Jun 11, 2024 · Katie GHonest opinion not my favorite KOA's as a long time paid member of KOA and Having visited campgrounds all across the USA this by far is one of the saddest ones we have visited, it has locks on the bathrooms? Which is a first as well as the facilities were disconnected from the camp itself making it a bet of a trek if you needed to use the facilities for any purpose. The amenities were few if any and the ones they had were by far the worse I've ever seen the playground is a death trap for children, it should be torn down, the pool was small and looked no better then that.
