Round Lake Campground Introduce
For local users in Michigan seeking a "camping near me" experience directly on the shores of a beautiful lake, Round Lake Campground in National City offers an attractive option. Located at 2180 Latham Rd in Iosco County, this campground has garnered positive feedback for its scenic lakefront setting and good-sized campsites, making it a potentially ideal destination for those looking to enjoy waterfront views and a natural environment. However, some concerns regarding local traffic within the campground and rule enforcement have also been noted by visitors.
One of the most significant draws of Round Lake Campground, as highlighted by a reviewer, is its prime location "right on the lake." This lakefront setting provides campers with "great views right from our campsite," allowing them to wake up to picturesque water vistas and enjoy the tranquility of being directly by the lake. For those prioritizing a "camping near me" experience with immediate access to and views of a lake, Round Lake Campground appears to be a strong contender.
The campsites at Round Lake Campground are described as being of "good size," suggesting that they offer ample space for tents, camping equipment, and enjoying outdoor activities around the site. Additionally, the presence of "paved road and aprons in each site" is a notable feature, likely providing a more stable and cleaner surface for parking and setting up camp, particularly beneficial for RVs and those looking for a less muddy environment. This combination of good-sized and paved campsites adds to the overall comfort and convenience of the camping experience.
In terms of facilities, Round Lake Campground offers "pit potties" for restroom needs. While typically considered a more rustic option, one reviewer noted that they were "as clean as possible," suggesting that the campground management maintains these facilities to a reasonable standard. Water is provided via a "hand pump," which, while functional, might be perceived as less convenient than direct water hookups at each site. The reviewer humorously noted that the water "kinda looks like ginger ale," implying a slightly discolored appearance, though likely still potable. Campers should be prepared for these more rustic amenities when considering Round Lake Campground for their "camping near me" trip.
Despite the positive aspects of the campground's location and site quality, some concerns have been raised by visitors. One reviewer mentioned a somewhat unsettling issue with local traffic within the campground, stating that it's "kind of creepy how the locals constantly drive through on their golf carts like they are scoping things out." This reviewer noted that it wasn't just an occasional occurrence but "dozens of them throughout the day" driving through and "going way above the posted speed limit." This high volume of non-camper traffic and speeding within the campground could be a potential drawback for those seeking a peaceful and secure camping environment.
Another issue raised by a reviewer pertains to rule enforcement. Specifically, they mentioned "Rule 2, campsite must be occupied first night," and observed two pictured campsites where the occupants "just dropped and ran" with "no sign of them since." The reviewer expressed concern that if rules are not consistently enforced, it could be "unfair to campers who play by the rules" and raised the worry of such absent campers potentially being the "loud generator all night" types upon their return. This suggests a potential inconsistency in how campground rules are applied, which could impact the experience of other campers seeking a peaceful and orderly environment for their "camping near me" stay.
The environment surrounding Round Lake Campground in National City is likely characterized by the natural beauty of Iosco County, with the lake being the central feature. Lakefront campgrounds often offer opportunities for fishing, boating (depending on lake regulations and access), and enjoying the peaceful ambiance of being near the water. The presence of mature trees, typical of Michigan campgrounds, can also provide shade and enhance the natural setting. Local users familiar with the area might appreciate the specific characteristics of Round Lake and its surroundings.

It would also be prudent to ask about the campground's policies regarding local traffic and rule enforcement to get a clearer understanding of these aspects before booking a stay.
In conclusion, Round Lake Campground in National City offers a beautiful lakefront setting with good-sized, paved campsites, making it an attractive "camping near me" option for those who value direct lake access and scenic views. While the campground provides rustic amenities such as pit toilets and hand pump water, they are reportedly maintained. However, potential drawbacks to consider include the reported high volume and speed of local golf cart traffic within the campground and possible inconsistencies in rule enforcement. Local users should weigh these factors against the campground's appealing lakeside location and spacious sites when making their decision and are encouraged to contact the campground directly for the most current information and to address any specific concerns.

Round Lake Campground Reviews
Nice campground with good size campsites. Only bad thing is that it's kind of creepy how the locals constantly drive through on their golf carts like they are scoping things out. It's not just one or two but dozens of them throughout the day and going way above the posted speed limit.
Jul 21, 2024 · Tammy FowlerBeautiful campground right on the lake. Great views right from our campsite. Pit potties were as clean as possible. Hand pump for water which kinda looks like ginger ale. Paved road and aprons in each site. Only issue is rule enforcement. Rule 2 , campsite must be occupied first night. The two pictured just dropped and ran. No sign of them since. Either the rules don't apply to them, or they are not enforced. Unfair to campers who play by the rules. Hope they aren't the "loud generator all night" types.
Sep 01, 2021 · Tom MeerschaertNice NFS Campground, well kept. Nice space between sites. All have blacktop parking.
May 23, 2024 · Harry McBratnieMan, this is a hidden secret of a park. It's neat and tidy, with these terrific sand bottom lakes. It's only 12 miles from Tawas and close to both water and off-road recreation options. Fishing, snowmobiling, ORV, Kite boarding, you name it. If you are looking for a primitive campground and only need a well and a pit potty, this is a good option. Campsites all have asphalt pads for campers and the road into the campground is paved the whole way.
Sep 04, 2020 · Tycho AussiePrice is right. It's on a lake. (One of 7 here) there is a beach close to site 8...we were at 7. And close to Tawas, on Lake Huron. Bathrooms are just port-a-potties. Water pump available, but I wouldn't advise using it for drinking. There is a dumpster. Right beside Sand Lake.
