Russell Springs / Lake Cumberland KOA Journey Introduce
For local residents in Kentucky and surrounding areas seeking "camping near me" with the trusted name of KOA, the Russell Springs / Lake Cumberland KOA Journey, located at 1440 Highway 1383, Russell Springs, KY 42642, USA, offers a potentially hospitable base for exploring the Lake Cumberland region. While the campground may not be brimming with extensive entertainment options, particularly in the off-season, its clean facilities, helpful staff, and proximity to natural attractions make it a noteworthy consideration for a local getaway.
The environment surrounding the Russell Springs / Lake Cumberland KOA Journey is likely a significant draw, given its proximity to the renowned Lake Cumberland. This vast and beautiful lake offers numerous opportunities for water-based activities such as boating, fishing, and swimming. The landscape around Lake Cumberland is also characterized by rolling hills, forests, and scenic trails, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. While the campground itself might not be directly on the lakefront, its location in Russell Springs suggests that it provides convenient access to the lake and the surrounding natural beauty. Local users seeking "camping near me" with the intention of enjoying Lake Cumberland's recreational offerings will find this KOA Journey a strategically positioned option. The reviews mention the owner providing maps and information about hiking, indicating an awareness of and connection to the area's natural attractions, although some of these might be a 30-minute to an hour's drive away.
In terms of services, the Russell Springs / Lake Cumberland KOA Journey appears to prioritize hospitality and cleanliness. One reviewer specifically mentioned the "very hospitable" owners and the staff being "very helpful," even going out of their way to assist with late check-ins. This suggests a commitment to guest satisfaction. The campground offers accommodation options including "tiny cabins," as mentioned by one reviewer who stayed in D05. These cabins provide a more comfortable alternative to traditional tent camping. While specific amenities for RV campers are not detailed in these reviews, being a KOA Journey campground, it is likely to offer RV sites with various hookups (water, electricity, and possibly sewer). Other potential services could include a camp store for basic necessities, laundry facilities, and potentially propane refills, common offerings at KOA campgrounds. However, one reviewer noted that the Wi-Fi signal did not reach their cabin despite the addition of an extender, which is an important consideration for those needing internet access. Hot water for showers was also reported as limited but manageable in one of the tiny cabins.
The features of the Russell Springs / Lake Cumberland KOA Journey include some recreational options, although they might be somewhat limited, especially during the off-season. The playground was noted to consist of four swings and a standalone slide. However, the campground does offer tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, providing opportunities for sports activities for guests who bring their own equipment. One reviewer also mentioned an arcade with "vintage" games, which could be a nostalgic feature, though some games reportedly took money without functioning. The "tiny cabin" described was noted as "cute" but could benefit from more practical additions like hooks and shelves for luggage storage. The availability of these cabins adds a unique lodging option for those seeking a more comfortable "camping near me" experience than tent camping. The campground seems to cater to those looking for a clean and friendly place to stay while exploring the surrounding area rather than a destination brimming with on-site entertainment, particularly outside of peak season.

The negative points raised include limited Wi-Fi reach in some cabins, a basic playground, and potentially limited hot water in the cabins. The overall sentiment suggests that this KOA Journey is a reliable and friendly place to stay, particularly if your primary focus is exploring the Lake Cumberland area and having a comfortable place to return to.

Russell Springs / Lake Cumberland KOA Journey Reviews
We spent a few days here with our children for spring break. We stayed in D05. It’s a new “tiny cabin. Our stay was nice and the owners were very hospitable. Giving 3 stars because everything was OK. WiFi does not reach the cabin we stayed in despite owners having recently added an extender. Playground consisted of 4 swings and a stand alone slide. They do have tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts so if you bring equipment that’s available. Cabin was cute but could use some small changes. Hot water for showers was very limited but manageable, cabin needs more hooks and shelves to help get luggage and such off the floor, arcade is vintage which is cool but several games took our money. I’m sure the owners would have given us our money back if we asked but they were gone for the day and it wasn’t a huge deal to us. Location was 30min- an hour away from all of the hiking we wanted to do so that wasn’t ideal but the owner was very kind and took extra time with us to draw maps and give us tons of information. In summary, if you’re looking for a clean and hospitable place to land at night this will serve just fine. If you’re looking for a campground full of fun and entertainment you probably won’t find it here, at least not in the off season.
Apr 05, 2024 · ashley hartlageVery thankful for the staff of Russell Springs KOA. We go each year around Father's Day for a sort of family reunion. The staff are very helpful. My daughter was having to be late for check in, as she was delayed. The staff waited around to escort her to her cabin, though it was well past check in time. THANK YOU!!
Jul 02, 2024 · Lawrence UnderwoodExtremely friendly and knowledgeable owners. Couldn't stay out whole time, but our spot was very nice, wifi worked fine on the phone and we had cable for the television.
Sep 20, 2024 · Sherri HarborLocated on the high banks of lake Cumberland the campground is quiet and reasonably priced. Spots were easy to get in and out of and utilities worked fine for the whole stay. Staff were friendly and facilities were nice.
Apr 10, 2024 · Sarah HartmanThis KOA is visually appealing. The staff is polite and professional. This particular location may be a network deadzone. So, come prepared for service outages. With that being said, this location has endless potential for a fun vacation with the family.
