Sandy Point Campground Introduce
For local users searching under the "Camping Near Me" category, Sandy Point Campground at Lake Nacimiento, located at Paso Robles, CA 93446, USA, offers a vibrant and amenity-rich camping experience. This popular campground is part of the larger Lake Nacimiento Resort, providing a comprehensive range of services and facilities tailored for families, groups, and individuals eager to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of Lake Nacimiento.
Sandy Point Campground is uniquely positioned on a bluff overlooking the expansive Lake Nacimiento, offering campers picturesque views of the water. The surrounding environment is characterized by a mix of oak and pine trees, providing a blend of sunny and shaded areas across the campsites. This natural setting creates a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for outdoor relaxation.
Lake Nacimiento itself is a stunning centerpiece, boasting 165 miles of pristine shoreline and 18 miles of water for recreation. It is nestled within the scenic Santa Lucia Mountains, offering a backdrop of rolling hills and verdant forests. The lake is often referred to as "The Dragon" due to its distinctive shape. The area is rich in wildlife, with potential sightings of deer, quail, bunnies, and a variety of bird species, including bald eagles, adding to the natural allure of the campground. The clean, warm waters of the lake are inviting for various water activities, making it a true oasis in California's Central Coast.
Sandy Point Campground, as part of the Lake Nacimiento Resort, offers a range of services designed to enhance the camping experience. It features 12 campsites, primarily designed for groups, and is a reservation-only campground, ensuring a more organized and predictable stay. Each campsite typically includes at least one picnic table, a fire ring, and a grill, facilitating outdoor cooking and social gatherings.
A significant highlight of Sandy Point is its modern restroom facilities. Campers consistently praise the cleanliness and maintenance of the flush toilets. Crucially, free showers are also available centrally within the campground, a welcome amenity for campers after a day of lakeside activities. Potable water is accessible, ensuring campers have a reliable source for drinking and cooking.
While Sandy Point specifically does not offer hook-ups for RVs, other campgrounds within the Lake Nacimiento Resort, such as Oak Knoll, provide full hook-up sites with water, electric, and sewage. This means that while Sandy Point might be more suited for tent or dry camping, the broader resort complex caters to a full spectrum of camping preferences. The resort also offers a convenient general store a couple of miles away from the campground. This store is well-stocked with a wide variety of groceries, camping supplies, fishing licenses and tackle, ice, and even souvenirs, reducing the need for campers to leave the resort area for essentials.
The presence of friendly and helpful staff is a recurring theme in customer reviews. From campground staff assisting with directions to office staff accommodating special requests, such as using an office for a Zoom meeting, the dedication to guest satisfaction is evident. This level of service significantly contributes to a positive and stress-free camping experience. The resort also offers boat trailer parking pads and a dump station for a fee, providing practical solutions for boat owners.
Sandy Point Campground's prime location on Lake Nacimiento makes it an ideal base for a myriad of water-based recreational activities. Boating is incredibly popular, with the lake providing ample room for water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, and wake surfing. The Lake Nacimiento Marina offers a wide array of rental options, including family pleasure boats, pontoon boats, ski boats, deck boats, paddleboards, kayaks, and fishing poles, making it easy for visitors to get out on the water even if they don't own equipment.
Fishing is another major draw, with Lake Nacimiento being famous for its feisty White Bass, offering a unique angling experience. Beyond the water, land-based activities include hiking around the lake's extensive shoreline and exploring the oak and pine forests. While specific marked trails from Sandy Point aren't widely detailed, the general area offers opportunities for nature walks and wildlife viewing.
The Lake Nacimiento Resort complex also features additional amenities beyond Sandy Point. These include a swimming pool, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and a seasonal movie theater, particularly popular in the Pine Knoll campground area. This diverse range of activities ensures entertainment for all ages and interests, making it a perfect family getaway.
Sandy Point Campground is a highly recommended destination for families and groups looking for a vibrant and active camping experience on Lake Nacimiento. Its popularity, especially on weekends and during peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), necessitates advance reservations. Reservations can be made by calling the resort's main line at (805) 237-4924 or the toll-free number (800) 323-3839. It is crucial to note that Sandy Point is a reservation-only campground, and sites are assigned by the office prior to use. Due to its narrow roads and parking areas, it is generally not recommended for vehicles towing boats or large trailers, making it more suitable for tent camping or smaller RVs that can navigate the area. However, the comprehensive amenities of the broader Lake Nacimiento Resort ensure that all types of campers can find suitable accommodations and services.
The campground is pet-friendly, welcoming dogs in all campgrounds (including Sandy Point) with a daily fee. Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and must be under their owner's control at all times, not left unattended, and must sleep in the vehicle, tent, or permitted lodging at night. Campers are expected to clean up after their pets and dispose of waste properly. For those seeking "Camping Near Me" with their furry companions, Sandy Point provides a welcoming environment.
Although some past reviews mention limited cell reception in certain areas of the wider resort, the ability to communicate with family back home suggests that some connectivity is available, particularly near central facilities. The overall positive feedback from real customers highlights the beautiful location, the convenient access to the lake, and the helpfulness of the staff, making Sandy Point Campground a highly desirable choice for a memorable outdoor adventure in Paso Robles.

Sandy Point Campground Reviews
***My previous review was meant for Lake Nacimiento Sandy Point Campground but for some reason it posted Oaknoll. We had a great time at Lake Nacimiento at the en of April and beginning of May. We drove with our 3 pups and they absolutely loved it.My husband rented a space near the bathrooms which was vital! We were within walking distance to the lake so we took several trips down. We did have a little bit of reception so we were able to communicate with our family back home. There were not a lot of people during the whole weekend we were there except for Saturday. We were there 4 days from Friday to Monday. There was a store a couple of miles away from the site and I was surprised at how large it was and the variety of things there.During one of my drives I got lost and one of their campground staff redirected me to the right place. He was very friendly and helpful. The office staff was also very nice. I had a client appointment on Sunday and they let me use their office to do my zoom meeting.Overall it was a really good experience and I recommend it to any family wanted to get away.
May 30, 2023 · Rebeca VillafanaHad so much fun. Best place ever. It was so beautiful.
Apr 01, 2024 · Melissa Gomez (Ducky4414)We towed our 26ft trailer and camped at spot 507 . Narrow but manageable to get in and out. 507 was huge. Clean site, water source available for basic needs. Private beach area easily accessible for the water level.
Sep 04, 2024 · Nick PaquetBeautiful camp site but very sandy so expect a lot of dust when camping here. Lots of raccoons and wildlife will visit you during the night so make sure to pack up and put everything away or else you'll wake up to your chips, bread, food picked up by something.
Aug 30, 2019 · Oscar E. YThe site was decent but it was a bit small in my opinion. The lake was nice and the fishing was good. I caught a huge largemouth. So my issues are one it's way overpriced at 120 a night, and two the fire pit was smashed down to almost nothing and none of them had a grille there was a small bbq at each site but I would have preferd to cook over the fire. The fire pit wasn't tall enough for us to use our own grille either. The bathroom wasn't maintained both toilets in the mens room were backed up the first Saturday then the second Sunday and only one shower worked and also didn't look super well maintained. Considering I have used much nicer showers and bathrooms in cheaper campgrounds it was also dissapointing.
