Santa Clara County Peace Officers Association Introduce
For specific groups seeking a unique and private outdoor experience in the Santa Cruz Mountains, the Santa Clara County Peace Officers Association (SCCPOA) offers a dedicated campground. While not a publicly accessible campground in the traditional sense for individual reservations by the general public, it serves as a valuable resource for scout groups, youth programs, and members of the SCCPOA. When considering "Camping Near Me" for organized group outings in the Saratoga, California area, this private property offers a distinct opportunity. Located at 24090 Deer Path Rd, Saratoga, CA 95070, USA, the SCCPOA can be reached by phone at (408) 264-1224 or on mobile at +1 408-264-1224.
The environment of the SCCPOA property spans 171 acres, providing a substantial wilderness setting. The campground itself is "hidden among the redwoods, above the City of Saratoga," offering a sense of seclusion and immersion in nature. The surrounding wildlife includes "birds, deer, chipmunks, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, and an occasional rattlesnake," indicating a rich natural ecosystem. While sightings are rare, "Bobcat sightings and sightings of mountain lion tracks in the dirt occur," reinforcing the wild nature of the area. One specific review mentioned "cold weather" and "rainy climate" along with "lots of mosquitoes," suggesting that campers should be prepared for typical mountain weather conditions and insect presence depending on the season. A rather unusual and unsettling review also mentioned finding human waste, which, if accurate, highlights the importance of adhering to proper sanitation practices even in private or group settings.
The campground at the Santa Clara County Peace Officers Association features 8 to 9 "tent cabins" (12'x16'), each equipped with "wood floors, picnic tables, and barbecues." This provides a semi-rustic camping experience, offering more shelter than a traditional tent site but still maintaining an outdoor feel. The amenities are geared towards group usage, with a "large brick barbecue for group usage" and a "large circular cement firepit surrounded by seating for your enjoyment," serving as a central gathering point for campfires. It is important to note that "No fires are permitted except for the firepit and barbecues," and campers must ensure fires are out before leaving them unattended, honoring local fire warnings. For active recreation, the campground includes "2 children play structure areas, swings," a "volleyball court," and "two basketball hoops," providing ample opportunities for group activities.
Restroom facilities are available, with "male and female restrooms (with hot and cold running water, flush toilets, and showers)." However, it is crucial to understand the water situation: "Well water is provided for the bathrooms, but the other water outlets in the campground area's are chlorinated but not potable so bring water for drinking and cooking." This means that while water is available for hygiene, all drinking and cooking water must be brought in by campers. Large groups are advised to "bring additional bathroom supplies (soap, toilet paper, and paper towels)."
Beyond the campground, the 171-acre property offers additional facilities that contribute to its unique appeal. There is a "pistol range" located approximately one mile past/above the campground, with eight paved shooting lanes. This range is primarily for members of the SCCPOA and their immediate family, with specific rules and reservation requirements for groups. An "archery range" is also available, nestled above the campground, featuring two boxed targets. These specialized facilities highlight the association's focus and provide unique recreational opportunities not typically found at public campgrounds.
The primary promotional information for the SCCPOA campground emphasizes its role in community service. The Santa Clara County Peace Officers' Association is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization that "provides services to many organizations within Santa Clara County including underprivileged, disadvantaged, and/or at-risk youth in order to interact in a positive way with law enforcement officers while using our property." This includes "Campership Program" with "structured group outings where at-risk youth camp at our property," fostering "positive interaction" between youth and law enforcement. "The Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts use the property on a regular basis," indicating that these organizations are frequent and welcome users of the campground. The property and campground are open "all year."
While the campground is not a traditional public site for individual bookings, its existence and features are valuable for specific groups looking for a dedicated outdoor space. The positive feedback from scout groups, such as "Our scouts loved the camp!", underscores its suitability for organized youth activities. The amenities are designed to support group cohesion and recreation, offering a safe and controlled environment for outdoor learning and enjoyment. The presence of a dedicated on-site office for the SCCPOA ensures a level of oversight and support for groups utilizing the facilities.
In summary, the Santa Clara County Peace Officers Association Campground is a private, multi-purpose facility located in Saratoga, CA, offering a unique "Camping Near Me" experience primarily for scout troops, youth programs, and SCCPOA members. Its 171-acre property provides a wilderness setting with 8-9 tent cabins, essential restrooms with hot water, and group-friendly amenities like a large firepit, barbecue, playgrounds, and sports courts. While campers must bring their own drinking water and adhere to strict fire rules, the campground offers a safe, structured, and engaging environment for group outdoor activities, fostering positive community interaction within a natural setting.

Santa Clara County Peace Officers Association Reviews
Cold weather. Rainy climate. Lots of mosquitoes. Also saw a human poop on one of the rocks there. It is probably still there, go to the main road next to the kitchen, turn right, and walk on the path (the one with basically no elevation change) while looking to your right. On one of the mossy rocks that is tilted towards the kitchen you should see a black poop about 5 inches long. There are 4 segments on it. Tasted bitter with a hint of salt. It's texture is pretty smooth though.Or so I was told
