Seven Devils Campground Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a high-elevation camping experience with access to stunning mountain scenery and extensive hiking trails, Seven Devils Campground near Riggins, Idaho, offers a compelling option within the "camping near me" category. Situated in a beautiful area, this campground provides a more remote and rugged camping experience, catering to both tent and vehicle campers. While the reviews highlight the natural beauty and recreational opportunities, they also provide important insights into potential seasonal conditions and wildlife encounters that local users should consider when planning their visit.
Spectacular Mountain Environment with Lake Access: A Country Boy's Dream
Seven Devils Campground is located in a beautiful mountainous area, offering a true escape into nature. One reviewer who visited in early March described hiking up to the campground due to heavy snow and finding it deserted, highlighting the potential for solitude during the off-season. The pleasant weather experienced once out of the valley suggests a refreshing mountain climate. A particularly memorable aspect of this visit was the encounter with mountain goats by the lake, described as a "country boys dream," indicating the potential for unique wildlife sightings in this natural environment. While the specific lake is not named, its presence adds to the scenic beauty and recreational possibilities of the area surrounding the campground. Local users seeking a "camping near me" experience with breathtaking mountain vistas and potential wildlife encounters will find the environment of Seven Devils Campground highly appealing.
Extensive Hiking Trails: An Adventurer's Paradise
A significant feature of Seven Devils Campground is its access to "miles of hiking trails." This makes it an ideal destination for local hikers and backpackers looking to explore the rugged terrain and scenic beauty of the Seven Devils Mountains. The availability of an extensive trail system suggests opportunities for various hiking experiences, ranging from shorter day hikes to longer, more challenging treks. The reviews do not specify the difficulty or destinations of these trails, but their presence is a major draw for those seeking an active "camping near me" adventure with ample opportunities for exploration and immersion in nature.
Basic Yet Clean and Stocked Facilities: Comfort in the Wilderness
In terms of services, Seven Devils Campground offers basic yet well-maintained facilities. The vault toilet restrooms are specifically mentioned as being "clean and stocked," which is a significant plus for campers seeking a more comfortable backcountry experience. Additionally, most of the ten available campsites are equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit, providing essential amenities for cooking and enjoying the outdoor setting. The limited number of campsites (10) suggests a smaller, more intimate campground setting, potentially offering a quieter and less crowded experience compared to larger campgrounds. Local users looking for a "camping near me" option with clean basic amenities in a more secluded setting will appreciate what Seven Devils Campground offers.
Seasonal Considerations: Snow in Early Spring and Insects in Mid-Summer
The reviews provide important insights into seasonal conditions at Seven Devils Campground. The experience of heavy snow in early March indicates that access to the campground may be limited or require hiking during the late winter and early spring months. Local users planning trips during this time should be prepared for potential snow and challenging access. Conversely, a reviewer noted that "mosquitos and biting flies were fierce mid-July." This highlights a common issue in mountainous areas during the summer months, and campers planning visits in mid-July or likely throughout the summer should come prepared with strong insect repellent and protective clothing to mitigate the impact of these biting insects. These seasonal considerations are crucial for local users to plan their "camping near me" trip to Seven Devils Campground effectively.
Tent or Vehicle Camping: Flexibility for Different Preferences
Seven Devils Campground accommodates both tent and vehicle camping. This flexibility allows a wider range of local users to enjoy the campground, whether they prefer a more traditional tent camping experience or the convenience of camping with their vehicle. The reviews do not specify if there are designated areas for each type of camping or if all sites can accommodate both. However, the mention of both options indicates that the campground caters to different camping styles, making it a versatile "camping near me" choice for various preferences.

Seven Devils Campground Reviews
Early March the snow was still too much to drive up but we hiked up and no one else was there. The weather was pleasant once we got out of the valley. We made fresh bread over the fire. Mountain goats visited us by the lake. It was a country boys dream.
Jan 28, 2025 · Nicholas BarnettBeautiful area. 10 camp spots. Access to miles of hiking trails. Tent or vehicle camping. Vault toilet restrooms were clean and stocked. Most sites had a picnic table and fire pit. Mosquitos and biting flies were fierce mid-July.
Jul 16, 2024 · L WentzThis is a small (10 sites) first come first serve, clean campground with fire pits and restrooms - no water. Devils lake is close by if you have a way to purify the water.Lots of hiking options just prior to the campground with parking and restroom. The lake in the photo is Mirror Lake, over the ridge is Sheep Lake. This is a difficult trail, steep grades, loose gravel, tight switchbacks and the trail isn't marked all that well. I used GAIA GPS to track my way and I did have to use it on the way out. Cell coverage was available once elevation was gained.
Aug 21, 2022 · Debbie DuniganWent there mid October the weather was perfect! Stayed the night at the campground. No one else was there. Such a beautiful area. The bathroom was clean, the campground was clean, iverall a great experience. Seven devils lake was right there, so beautiful. We camped there so my girlfriend and I could go to heavens gate 2 miles up the road. It was amazing. It's a steep steady climb at about a 7 percent grade for 18 miles. I recommend low gear and resting your brakes coming down.
Oct 25, 2024 · curtis mcphetridgeHave camped here before. My most favorite spot ever. I caught a double rainbow while hiking up to fire tower. Was so out of breath. Not sure if you can make out the 2 rainbows. I always figured there are lots of steer running around up there why would the grizzly or lions want me. Also at night I got video of objects moving in the sky. No man made. I'm from WI. and plan on coming back this summer 2020. Cheers !
