Shady Grove RV Campground Introduce
For local RV owners and camping enthusiasts searching for "camping near me" in the Vian, Oklahoma area, Shady Grove RV Campground, located at Vian, OK 74962, presents itself as a potentially appealing option due to its shady environment and proximity to Lake Tenkiller. However, recent customer reviews provide valuable insights that should be carefully considered when planning a visit. This introduction aims to offer an objective overview of the campground's environment, services, and features based on these reviews, without any missing information, to help local users make an informed decision.
The environment of Shady Grove RV Campground is described as "very shady," which is a significant advantage, especially during the hot Oklahoma summers. The abundance of trees offers natural cooling and a pleasant camping atmosphere. Additionally, the campground boasts a "nice walk to cliff edge to see lake," indicating that it provides scenic views of Lake Tenkiller, a popular recreational destination in the region known for its clear waters and outdoor activities. The proximity to the lake also suggests easy access to swimming and fishing areas, enhancing the appeal for water enthusiasts. The overall environment seems to be one that emphasizes natural beauty and opportunities for enjoying the lake.
While the positive aspects of the environment are noted, the reviews also highlight some significant drawbacks regarding the services and infrastructure of Shady Grove RV Campground. One recurring issue is the difficulty with the "pull through sites," which, contrary to their designation, were reportedly not easily navigable. One reviewer witnessed a trailer breaking its stabilizing legs and another instance of fiberglass damage due to the challenging terrain upon entry. This suggests that larger RVs or trailers, and those with lower clearance, might encounter significant difficulties accessing and maneuvering within these sites. Another major concern raised is the placement of the hookups, which are described as being "on the wrong side." This inconvenient layout reportedly requires RVs to pull in backwards (against the natural approach due to steep grades) to properly connect utilities, potentially leading to tripping hazards over sewer hoses and other connections near the RV door. Furthermore, the "public bathrooms are atrocious" and "not kept up," with a strong recommendation to rely solely on onboard RV or trailer toilets. This indicates a significant deficiency in the maintenance and quality of the communal restroom facilities.
The features of Shady Grove RV Campground, based on the reviews, are somewhat mixed. The shade provided by the trees is a definite plus, offering relief from the sun and creating a more comfortable outdoor living space. The access to Lake Tenkiller, with the "nice walk to cliff edge to see lake" and proximity to swimming and fishing areas, is another key feature that could attract visitors. The mention of being "not far from pool" suggests the presence of a swimming pool as an amenity, although the condition and accessibility of the pool are not detailed in the provided reviews. However, the negative feedback regarding the pull-through sites not being truly pull-through, the inconvenient placement of hookups, and the poor condition of the public bathrooms significantly detract from the overall appeal. The steep grades within the campground and low-hanging branches on the roads are also mentioned as problematic features, particularly for larger RVs, with one reviewer reporting damage to their tow dolly. The overall impression from the reviews is that while the natural setting and lake access are positive, the infrastructure and maintenance of the campground have notable shortcomings.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information provided for Shady Grove RV Campground. Local users searching for "camping near me" might be drawn to the initial positives of shade and lake access. However, the strong negative feedback regarding site accessibility and the condition of the public bathrooms should heavily influence their decision. The reviewer who stated, "Not a place for larger RV's" and "Will not go back. Price is high for state parks," offers a direct caution that should be considered, especially for those with larger rigs. The mention of the price being high for state parks suggests that the value proposition might not align with the quality of the facilities, at least according to this reviewer's experience. Local users are advised to weigh the benefits of the environment against the reported issues with the infrastructure and maintenance before making a reservation.
For local RV owners and campers in the Vian, OK area looking for "camping near me," Shady Grove RV Campground presents a location with desirable natural attributes like shade and lake access. However, the recent customer reviews strongly suggest potential challenges, particularly for those with larger RVs or those who rely on public restroom facilities. The difficulties with pull-through sites, the inconvenient hookup placements, and the reportedly atrocious condition of the public bathrooms are significant factors to consider. The steep grades and low-hanging branches within the campground also pose potential risks for larger vehicles. Local users are strongly encouraged to seek more recent reviews or directly contact the campground to inquire about the current condition of the facilities and the suitability of the sites for their specific type of RV or camping setup. If public restrooms are a necessity, alternative campgrounds with better-maintained facilities might be a more suitable option. The potential for a higher price point, as mentioned by one reviewer, further underscores the need for thorough research before booking a stay at Shady Grove RV Campground.
In conclusion, Shady Grove RV Campground in Vian, OK (zip code 74962), offers a shady environment with access to Lake Tenkiller, which could be appealing to local users seeking "camping near me." However, recent customer reviews reveal significant concerns regarding the functionality of pull-through sites, the inconvenient placement of utility hookups, and the poor condition of the public bathrooms. These issues, coupled with reports of steep grades and low-hanging branches posing challenges for larger RVs, suggest that this campground might be better suited for smaller rigs or self-contained RVs that do not rely on public facilities. Local users are advised to carefully consider these drawbacks and conduct further research before choosing Shady Grove RV Campground for their camping needs.

Shady Grove RV Campground Reviews
Pros:very shady, nice walk to cliff edge to see lake, not far from pool, swim, fishing areasCons:Pull through sites weren't easily pull through. Unless you have an extremely high clearance, I witnessed one trailer breaking stabilizing legs, and a goose break fiberglass just pulling in!Hook ups are on the wrong side, so unless you pulled in backwards (which you wanted to do because the approach was too steep for most trailers), you would have to trip over your sewer hose and other hookups where your door opens.Public bathrooms are atrocious! And admittedly by the office not kept up. Make sure you having working toilets in your rv or trailer!
Sep 07, 2022 · Rob Technician/ElectricianNot a place for larger RV's. Steep grades in and out of sites, low hanging branches on the rode. Messed up our tow dolly getting into the RV site. Will not go back. Price is high for state parks.
