Stanley Lake Campground Introduce
For local users in Idaho and surrounding regions searching within the "camping near me" category for a picturesque outdoor getaway, Stanley Lake Campground, located in Stanley, ID 83278, offers a camping experience amidst breathtaking natural beauty. Situated in the heart of the Sawtooth Mountains, this campground is renowned for its stunning lake views and access to incredible hiking opportunities.
The environment surrounding Stanley Lake Campground is consistently described as "gorgeous" and "absolutely beautiful." One reviewer specifically highlighted the lake views from Site #18 as "stunning," indicating that many campsites likely offer scenic vistas of Stanley Lake and the surrounding majestic Sawtooth peaks. The campground's location within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area ensures an immersive experience in a pristine mountain landscape, characterized by rugged granite peaks, alpine forests, and the crystal-clear waters of Stanley Lake. Local users seeking a visually spectacular camping destination will find the natural setting of Stanley Lake Campground highly appealing.
In terms of maintenance and facilities, one reviewer noted that the campground is "very well maintained" and boasts the "cleanest bathrooms of any campsite around." This positive feedback regarding cleanliness and upkeep suggests a well-managed facility that prioritizes visitor comfort in these essential areas. Clean and well-maintained restrooms can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, especially for families and those who value hygiene.
However, it's important for potential visitors to be aware of the campground's utility provisions. According to a review, Stanley Lake Campground offers "NO hook ups," meaning there are no water or electric connections available at the campsites. Additionally, the campground does not have showers. This suggests a more rustic camping experience where campers need to be self-sufficient in terms of water supply, power needs (relying on generators or portable power), and personal hygiene. This information is crucial for local users planning their trip, as they will need to bring adequate water and make alternative arrangements for power and showering.
Another significant aspect of the campground's environment is the lack of cellphone reception. One reviewer explicitly mentioned "no cellphone reception," which can be both a drawback and a benefit, depending on individual preferences. For those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves fully in nature, the absence of cell service can contribute to a more peaceful and undisturbed experience. However, for others who need to stay connected for safety or personal reasons, this lack of reception is an important consideration.
For families with children, Stanley Lake Campground appears to offer a welcoming environment for outdoor activities. One reviewer mentioned that their "Kids had a blast riding their bikes on trails with the new campsite buddies," indicating the presence of trails suitable for biking and opportunities for children to socialize and play. The "very peaceful" atmosphere noted by the same reviewer suggests a generally tranquil setting where families can relax and enjoy their time outdoors.
Positive feedback was also given regarding the campground hostess, who was described as being "on top of all things and very helpful." A helpful and attentive host can significantly contribute to a positive camping experience by providing assistance, information, and ensuring the smooth operation of the campground.
However, another reviewer shared a less positive experience specifically related to the camp host. This review raises concerns about inconsistencies in the host's interactions with campers, including instances of repeated check-in procedures, singling out individuals, and perceived inconsistencies in enforcing campground rules. The specific incident involving a generator running past the quiet hours and the subsequent interaction with the host, which was recorded by the camper, suggests potential issues with communication and rule enforcement. This feedback indicates that while the natural beauty and facilities of Stanley Lake Campground are highly regarded, the experience with the camp host might vary.
The contrasting reviews highlight the importance of considering both the stunning natural environment and the potential for varied experiences with the campground management. While one reviewer found the hostess "fantastic," another found the host's behavior "less than desirable."
Given the lack of hookups and cell service, Stanley Lake Campground caters to a specific type of camper who is prepared for a more off-grid experience and prioritizes natural beauty and tranquility. The presence of clean bathrooms is a significant plus, offering a level of comfort often appreciated in more remote settings.
There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the consistently praised "gorgeous location" and "absolutely beautiful campground and surroundings" serve as a strong natural promotion for the area. The mention of "amazing hikes and views" further highlights the recreational opportunities available to those who choose to camp at Stanley Lake.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in a location with breathtaking scenery, access to hiking, and well-maintained basic facilities, Stanley Lake Campground in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho is a compelling option. The lack of hookups and cell service should be considered by those who require these amenities. While one reviewer lauded the helpful hostess, another raised concerns about the camp host's interactions, suggesting that individual experiences might differ. Potential visitors should be prepared for a rustic yet beautiful camping experience and may want to inquire about campground management policies when making reservations, if possible.
In conclusion, Stanley Lake Campground offers a remarkable camping experience in a stunning natural setting with clean facilities. Its key features include breathtaking lake and mountain views, access to hiking trails, and a peaceful atmosphere. However, it lacks water and electric hookups, showers, and cellphone reception. While one visitor praised the helpful hostess, another reported negative interactions with the camp host. Local users seeking a beautiful, albeit rustic, "camping near me" option in the Sawtooth Mountains should consider these factors when planning their visit to Stanley Lake Campground.

Stanley Lake Campground Reviews
Gorgeous location! Site #18, lake views were stunning. Very well maintained, cleanest bathrooms of any campsite around. NO hook ups (water or electric), no showers, no cellphone reception (if those are things you’re looking for) Kids had a blast riding their bikes on trails with the new campsite buddies. Very peaceful. Hostess was on top of all things and very helpful. Quite a fantastic campsite!
Mar 06, 2024 · Sarah FitzpatrickAbsolutely beautiful campground and surroundings. Amazing hikes and views. 3 stars are due to the camp host. Not sure if she has short term memory loss or what. We came, checked in, provided her all the information and she left. A few hours later she comes by again and says why are you in this camp site, and the whole check in process starts again. She will single people out to bother through the entire stay. We left our generator running a few minutes past 10pm one night, and the following night she rolls up on her golf cart at 9:50 and begins to threaten us that she will put our name in the file.....my husband recorded it and we shut off the generator at 9:57. She picks and chooses who should follow the rules and who does not need to.Long story short, it is beautiful but the host leaves the experiance less than desirable.
May 29, 2023 · Tatyana FridmanOrder ahead! Lots of good spots lots of not great spots but you can just hike to the lake no matter what. Bring shade lol
Jul 12, 2024 · Chad InfangerOnly sites available were in the ‘expansion’ area in direct sunlight all day every day. Good for RVs? Not for tents.Lady ‘host’ was rude, so I left...go back down 455 to 640 on the right. Take it to the end of the dirt road. Much nicer, primitive and free!!! Photos from that site below.
Sep 05, 2020 · Matthew NotierThis is a bare bones type developed campground - fire ring/picnic table/pit toilets. Which is all I wanted. I just wanted to be closer to the lake itself as far as tent camping. The spaces I was near (the campground is divided in to three sections) - like space numbers 25-35 or something - are absolutely geared for big RV’s size wise - BUT each includes a well groomed flat pad for a tent! LOVE THAT. This section is the least desired because it’s most exposed. Fewer mature trees. And, no lake views as it is farthest from it. Having said that - the lake is a 100 yard walk down a nice developed path (dirt) through trees. The hosts (Candy & Gale) keep the place top notch. Firewood is available from them. There are signs for all three sections of camping, that the hosts flip over, saying FULL or VACANCY. Regularly drive by to see if you want a first come first serve spot. Very near the boat launch and trailheads too. The lake/campground itself is 9 miles from the main road. The small town of Stanley is not far for any necessities.
