Based on recent customer reviews, Stonehill Regional Park appears to be a well-regarded location with notable positive aspects, although potential drawbacks should also be considered by local users.
As a regional park offering camping within the "camping near me" category, Stonehill Regional Park seems to provide a setting that many appreciate, with specific highlights including the fishing and the helpfulness of the park management. However, feedback also indicates potential issues related to the behavior of some campers, which could impact the overall experience for others.
Environment:
While the reviews don't offer extensive details about the natural environment of Stonehill Regional Park, the mention of "fishing excellent" suggests the presence of a significant water body, likely a lake or a well-stocked pond, within or accessible from the park. This would contribute to the scenic beauty and recreational opportunities of the area. The reference to an "overflow area very quiet" implies that the park has different zones, with at least one area known for its peacefulness, which could be appealing to those seeking a tranquil camping experience.
The fact that it is a "Regional Park" typically suggests a larger area with diverse landscapes, potentially including wooded areas, open fields, and maintained recreational spaces. The environment is likely geared towards outdoor activities and providing a natural setting for visitors. Local users who value quiet and opportunities for fishing might find the environment of Stonehill Regional Park particularly attractive.
Services and Amenities:
The positive review praising the "Manager is exceptional" suggests that the park staff are helpful and contribute positively to the visitor experience. This can be a significant factor in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable camping trip for local users.
While specific details about other services and amenities are not provided in the reviews, regional parks often offer a range of facilities to support campers and day visitors. These could typically include:
- Campsites for RVs and tents: The types of hookups available (electric, water, sewer) and the nature of the campsites (e.g., size, shade) are not specified.
- Restroom and shower facilities: The presence and condition of these essential amenities are not mentioned in the reviews.
- Potable water sources.
- Waste disposal facilities.
- Picnic areas and shelters.
- Playground equipment: The negative review mentions a "park area" where bullying occurred, indicating the presence of playground facilities.
- Beach area: The same review also refers to a "beach," suggesting a swimming area associated with the water body where fishing is excellent.
- Potentially, boat ramps or docks if the lake is suitable for boating.
Local users planning to camp at Stonehill Regional Park might want to contact the park directly to inquire about the specific services and amenities available to ensure they meet their needs.
Features and Activities:
Based on the customer reviews, Stonehill Regional Park offers several key features and activities:
- Fishing: Described as "excellent," this is a major draw for anglers in the local area. The type of fish available and any regulations would be of interest to local fishing enthusiasts.
- Quiet Overflow Area: For those seeking a more peaceful camping experience, the park has a designated overflow area known for its quietness. This could be particularly appealing during busier times in the main camping area.
- Park Area and Playground: A dedicated park area with playground equipment is available, providing recreational opportunities for children.
- Beach: The presence of a beach suggests opportunities for swimming and other water-related activities, enhancing the park's appeal during warmer months.
The desire of one reviewer to obtain a "seasonal spot" indicates that Stonehill Regional Park is a popular and desirable location for regular campers, likely due to its features and overall positive atmosphere (as perceived by that reviewer).
However, the negative review raises a significant concern regarding the behavior of some children from the camping area who engaged in bullying at the park and beach. This highlights a potential issue with camper behavior and supervision that could detract from the experience of other families, especially those with children. The fact that the offending child could not be easily found after the incident is also a point of concern.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal:
While specific promotional offers are not mentioned, Stonehill Regional Park's appeal to local users searching for "camping near me" is likely based on its reputation as a "fantastic spot" with "excellent fishing" and a helpful manager. These positive aspects can be strong draws for those seeking a pleasant and well-managed outdoor experience close to home.
The availability of a quiet overflow area also caters to campers who prioritize peace and tranquility. The presence of a park area and beach makes it a potentially attractive destination for families with children, offering diverse recreational options beyond just camping.
However, the issue of bullying reported by one reviewer is a significant factor that local users with children will need to consider. While this might not be a pervasive problem, it indicates a potential lack of supervision or behavioral issues among some young campers that could impact the enjoyment and safety of others.
Recommendations for Local Users:
For local individuals and families considering Stonehill Regional Park for their "camping near me" needs, it is advisable to:
- Contact the park directly at (507) 829-0394 or +1 507-829-0394 to inquire about campsite availability, amenities (restrooms, showers, hookups), and any specific rules or regulations regarding camper behavior and supervision of children.
- If fishing is a primary interest, ask for more details about the lake or pond, the types of fish, and any fishing permits or regulations.
- Inquire about the quietness and suitability of the overflow area if seeking a more peaceful camping spot.
- Consider the potential for interactions with other campers and the possibility of unsupervised children in the park and beach areas, especially if traveling with young children.
- Read any other online reviews or seek local recommendations to get a broader perspective on the park's atmosphere and management of camper behavior.
In conclusion, Stonehill Regional Park near Canby, MN, appears to be a well-regarded location offering excellent fishing and a helpful manager, making it a potentially fantastic "camping near me" option for local users. The availability of a quiet overflow area and recreational facilities like a park and beach add to its appeal. However, the reported issue of bullying by some children in the camping area is a significant concern that prospective visitors should be aware of and perhaps address with the park management when making inquiries. Overall, with careful consideration of both the positive feedback and the potential drawbacks, Stonehill Regional Park could still be a worthwhile destination for local camping enthusiasts.

Stonehill Regional Park Reviews
Fantastic spot. Overflow area very quiet. Fishing excellent. Manager is exceptional. Wish I could get a seasonal spot.
Jun 24, 2018 · Bill BoltLove coming here! But the last 2 times we have visited mean kids from the camping area have bullied my son at the park area and beach; the one time they even poured sand in his face! As soon as I was told by my son, the kid took off into the camping area not to be found. It's too bad because we really enjoy coming out here, but rude campers make it hard to WANT to go.
