The Pines Campground Introduce
For local users seeking 'camping near me' in Ashby, MA, The Pines Campground, located at 39 Davis Rd, Ashby, MA 01431, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While some visitors have appreciated its quiet, country setting and helpful staff, others have raised concerns regarding rules, pool cleanliness, and interactions with long-term residents. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment, services, and features based on the available feedback, allowing potential local campers to make an informed decision.
The environment of The Pines Campground is described by one reviewer as a "small country campground," suggesting a more intimate and potentially less crowded setting compared to larger, more commercial campgrounds. Another reviewer mentioned a "little brook behind us," which they found "very relaxing to listen to," indicating that some sites might offer pleasant natural surroundings and the soothing sounds of running water. This suggests that The Pines Campground could appeal to those seeking a quieter, more natural atmosphere for their local camping experience.
However, another reviewer's description of the campground as a "trailer park" raises a potential point of consideration. The presence of long-term residents in a campground can sometimes influence the overall atmosphere and the types of interactions transient campers might have. This reviewer also stated, "There's nothing to see or do there," which contrasts with the positive experience of the other reviewer who seemed content with the basic country setting.
In terms of services and facilities, there are conflicting opinions. One reviewer praised the showers for being "big & clean" and the toilets for also being clean. This is a significant positive aspect, as clean restroom facilities are crucial for a comfortable camping experience. However, this same reviewer reported issues with children from the "trailer park" allegedly stuffing toilet paper in the toilets, indicating a potential problem with the behavior of some long-term residents and perhaps a need for better supervision.
The staff also received mixed reviews. One visitor found them "extremely helpful" and even mentioned assistance with backing in their vehicle. They also noted that the staff "go all out to make you feel comfortable." This positive feedback highlights a strong commitment to customer service from at least some members of the staff. However, the other reviewer had a negative experience, describing the staff as "very unfriendly" when they reported a lack of hot water in the shower and were not offered reimbursement late at night. This inconsistency in staff interaction is something potential campers should be aware of.
Rules and regulations at The Pines Campground appear to be a point of contention. One reviewer felt that the campground imposed excessive restrictions, mentioning being told to turn down music (which was only on level 4) at 10:30 pm and having fires required to be put out by midnight. They also expressed discomfort with staff driving around on golf carts in the middle of the night, feeling like they were being "creeped on." This perspective suggests a lack of the "freedom to do whatever you want" that this reviewer associates with camping, indicating that The Pines Campground might have stricter rules than some campers prefer.
The pool is another area with contrasting feedback. One reviewer explicitly stated, "the pool no I would not go in the pool it looks like the people that live there year around bath in it I would not recommend this place." This is a serious concern regarding hygiene and could be a significant deterrent for potential campers, especially families with children. On the other hand, the other reviewer described the pool as "nice and clean," suggesting a possible inconsistency in the pool's condition or differing perceptions among visitors.
One positive aspect mentioned by a reviewer was the size of the campsites, which were described as "large." This is generally desirable for camping, providing more space for setting up equipment and enjoying outdoor activities at the site. The presence of a "little brook behind us" for some sites also adds to the appeal of the individual camping spaces.
Overall, The Pines Campground is described as a "very basic campground with a little bit of quirkiness" and "old school country camping at a nice price." This suggests that it might appeal to campers who are not looking for extensive amenities or a highly structured environment and are comfortable with a more traditional and perhaps less polished camping experience. However, the reported issues with rules, staff inconsistency, and pool cleanliness are important factors to consider.
Currently, there is no information available in the provided reviews regarding any promotional offers or discounts at The Pines Campground. Local users are encouraged to contact the campground directly at (978) 386-7702 or +1 978-386-7702 to inquire about current rates, site availability, and any special promotions that may be offered. Given the mixed feedback, it might also be beneficial to ask specific questions about the pool's maintenance, the campground's rules regarding noise and campfires, and the general atmosphere, especially concerning long-term residents, to get a clearer picture before booking.
In summary, The Pines Campground offers a "small country campground" experience in Ashby, MA, with the following points to consider for local users seeking 'camping near me':
- Some campsites are large and may have pleasant natural surroundings like a brook.
- The showers and toilets have been reported as clean by one reviewer.
- The staff has received both positive feedback for being helpful and negative feedback for being unfriendly.
- There are mentions of potentially strict rules regarding noise and campfires.
- The cleanliness of the pool is a point of concern for one reviewer but was found nice and clean by another.
- The campground may have a significant number of long-term residents, which could influence the overall atmosphere.
- It is described as a basic, "old school country camping" experience at a potentially nice price.
Local campers should weigh these contrasting experiences and consider their own preferences for campground amenities, rules, and atmosphere. Contacting The Pines Campground directly for more information and clarification on the points raised in the reviews is highly recommended before making a reservation.

The Pines Campground Reviews
Well all I can say about this trailer park / is that the showers were big & clean the toilets we're clean but the kids in the trailer park hung out in the bathrooms shoving toilet paper in all the toilets! The staff was very unfriendly when we told them the shower had not hot water they didn't reimburse us at 10:30pm they told us to turn our music down! Witch was only on level 4 they wanted fires put out by 12midnight they would drive around on their golf carts in the middle of the night creeping on people we were very uncomfortable there . All I can say is really look into camp sites before you book with them because some are really trailer parks that just take you're money & tell you when to stop you're music or TVs & fire . Camping is to release enjoy relax & the freedom to do whatever you want. There's nothing to see or do there thethe pool no I would not go in the pool it looks like the people that live there year around bath in it I would not recommend this place.
May 28, 2024 · Joan VecchioThis is a small country campground. The staff are extremely helpful and will even help back you in. The sites were large, and we had a little block behind us, which was very relaxing to listen to. For the most part everything was quiet. This is a very basic campground with a little bit of quirkiness. The pool was nice and clean and the folks who work there go all out to make you feel comfortable. Do not come here expecting a fancy campground. This is old school country camping at a nice price 👍 we loved it! We wish we could’ve stayed the whole week, but unfortunately we already paid for another place that wasn’t as nice as The Pines
Aug 05, 2023 · Stacy AmentaI came here for a weekend with my family my kids was younger at the time and someone who was a regular there child did something to my kids so my son reacted he gave this kid a warning. Well he kept doing it and the other party had the person speak to us about the situation. Well kids are so quick to say what another kid did but never ever quick enough to say what they did for the child to act like that. It was wrong on the camp’s behalf. My family had packed up early days early. We did not feel welcomed by the staff. Considering that he had rented to my mother when I was a kid I don’t know if he still owns the house or not but he didn’t remember me at all which was fine. But my point is that they play favorites in the community I guess the longer you are there the better they will treat you. The outcome was the other family never had gotten spoken too we didn’t feel welcome after that regardless of being a regular or not you should treat your guest equally
Dec 16, 2023 · TaraIt's been about 20 years since I've stayed there, but am hoping to finally get back there this summer for a week, or so, but about 20 yrs ago I stayed there for 5-6 months. We had a trailer, and had the site at the top of the stairs by the office, just a short walk to the pool. I stayed there with my husband at the time, and our 3 yr old daughter, & 5 yr old son. The kids absolutely loved it there, and routinely had events specifically for kids. My staying there ended up bein a major factor in the course of my life. After the months of staying there we ended up buying a Campground of our own in Warren NH, and we ran it the same way Paul runs the Pines. We learned so much from watching him. Paul, his lovely family, Their campground, changed the course of my life, an even though i have since sold my campground, I am forever grateful to Paul, and his family, and for my stay at the pines.
Jun 06, 2023 · Nunya BiznezI've already camped here a few times and have had a great experience every time. I prefer trunk camping and at the end of their road there is a group of tent sites. The campground is family run and owned, which is noticed with the friendly and welcoming interactions. A few with electricity and water for a few dollars more. I've picked one of the sites with electricity and never used it just for the layout of the site. I travel with a large battery bank and a foldout 20 watt solar panel. There is an outhouse and running water next to all the sites within walking distance. Showers are coin operated for 4 quarters (hot/cold). When the stall door is shut a switch will turn the light on. There is a small playground and pool but it's a very small community. Every time I spend a weekend, I never want to leave on the checkout day. It's so quiet and peaceful. Be careful if you drive a lowered car, you will bottom out in some of the far back sites. There are more RV sites and they operate all year around.Photos are taken from all the times I've visited.
