Trader's Island Campground Introduce
Looking for a unique "camping near me" experience along the beautiful Wisconsin River? Trader's Island Campground, located at 7608 Wittwer Rd, Arena, WI 53503, USA, offers a picturesque and spacious setting for your next outdoor adventure. You can reach them at (608) 588-7282 or their mobile number, +1 608-588-7282, to inquire about availability and make reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, Trader's Island Campground presents a blend of natural beauty and unique amenities, making it a noteworthy option for local campers.
The environment at Trader's Island Campground is frequently described as beautiful and spacious, with incredible scenery. Many campsites are large, offering a sense of privacy where you're not right on top of your neighbors. Notably, the campground boasts several sites directly on the Wisconsin Riverfront, providing stunning views and direct access to the water. This riverside location makes it an attractive option for those seeking a tranquil and scenic camping experience within the "camping near me" category. The presence of split rail fencing dividing the sites ensures clarity regarding individual camping spaces.
Trader's Island Campground offers a range of services and features to enhance your stay. Each campsite is equipped with electric hookups and potable water spigots, catering to both tent and RV campers. For those looking to explore the Wisconsin River, canoe rentals are available directly at the campground, and there is a convenient boat launch on-site. Kayaking is also a popular activity, with campers reporting the ability to launch their own kayaks without disturbance. For social gatherings and refreshments, Trader's Island features a tiki bar located right on the river next to the boat launch. This tiki bar also serves as a point of contact for check-in, and according to one review, the staff at the bar are "absolutely wonderful." The bar also stocks essential items like ice and firewood for purchase.
While the campground offers some restroom facilities, it's important to note that the availability and type can vary. One reviewer mentioned the presence of both "real flushing restrooms" and porta potties. However, another reviewer indicated that the bathrooms lacked running water and consisted solely of porta potties, with the condition of these varying depending on their location. Specifically, the porta potties not near the tiki bar were described as full and wobbly, while those by the tiki hut were in better condition. It is also crucial to note that, according to the reviews, Trader's Island Campground does not offer showers. This lack of shower facilities is a significant point for potential campers to consider when searching for "camping near me" for longer stays.
A unique feature of Trader's Island Campground is the tiki bar, which serves as a social hub, particularly in the evenings. However, one reviewer noted that it could get busy and crowded, and the serving times for food were not clearly communicated, leading to them missing out. On the opposite side of the tiki bar, a sand volleyball court provides an additional recreational option for campers.
Several aspects of the campground's management and policies were mentioned in the reviews. One camper pointed out a lack of clearly posted campground rules and guidelines, such as check-out times, quiet hours, details about canoe trip lengths, after-hours emergency contact information, and tiki bar operating hours. This lack of readily available information might be something for potential visitors to inquire about upon arrival. Another camper mentioned a neighbor engaging in karaoke until midnight, highlighting a potential lack of strict enforcement of quiet hours, although this did not seem to significantly detract from their overall experience.
Regarding pricing, one reviewer expressed concern, stating that the cost of $25 per person per night was "crazy for what the campground is." This is a significant piece of information for local users to consider when comparing options for "camping near me," especially if traveling with multiple people. It's advisable to confirm the current pricing structure directly with the campground when making inquiries.
Despite some of the noted drawbacks, many reviewers praised the beauty and spaciousness of Trader's Island Campground. The riverfront views and the overall scenery were consistently highlighted as exceptional. The availability of canoe rentals and the boat launch directly on the Wisconsin River add significant appeal for those interested in water activities. One reviewer even described the location as a "hidden gem" and expressed their intention to return. The friendly demeanor of the owner was also mentioned positively by one reviewer.
In summary, Trader's Island Campground offers a unique riverside camping experience near Arena, WI. Its beautiful and spacious environment, particularly the riverfront sites, along with amenities like electric and water hookups, canoe rentals, and a tiki bar, make it an attractive option for those searching for "camping near me" with a focus on scenic beauty and river access. However, potential campers should be aware of the limitations regarding restroom facilities (primarily porta potties with no running water in some areas and no showers) and the reported lack of clearly posted campground rules. The pricing per person per night is also a factor to consider. Despite these points, the positive feedback regarding the scenery, spaciousness, and friendly atmosphere suggests that Trader's Island Campground can provide a memorable camping getaway for those who value a riverside location and unique amenities.

Trader's Island Campground Reviews
The view from our site(#5) was beautiful and the site was nice. I wanted to let people who are looking into this campground know it is hard to reserve a spot and get clear communication, there is running water from a spicket by the campsite and there is electric, but there is definitley no running water in the bathrooms…they are port a potties. The porta potties that were not by the tiki bar were full and one was wobbly. The ones by the tiki hut were better. THERE ARE NO SHOWERS!! For the tiki hit, we unfortunately were not sure when they stopped serving food and missed it when we wanted it. It was so busy and crowded in the evenings. We went there to fish on the river and we had our neighbors sitting in the river and the people from kayak rentals running into our lines so it’s not a good place if you want to actually fish. We were lucky to get the spot we had because we were told several different things when on the phone, but it was never clear which ones were available. The price is crazy for what the campground is because it’s $25 per person/ night. The owner did seem like a really nice guy and I don’t want to put down the campground just want everybody to know this info when planning and searching!
Aug 05, 2024 · Jessica ZitkoFound this place on a short notice mad dash search to get out of our current campground due to severe storms & a possible tornado coming in a few short hours. We needed a place over an hour north of us past where the radar showed the storm front would be passing thru. Called this place and they told us we could could still check in up to 9pm. Got there just before dark, checked in at the bar, the ladies were absolutely wonderful! We asked for a site right on the Wisconsin River. She gave us a map to get to the camp site where we set up.Words cannot describe how beautiful and spacious this campground is. The scenery is incredible. Nice large sites where you're not right on top of your neighbor. They have several sites, 6 of which are right on the riverfront. Canoe rentals are available and the boat launch is right there. Real flushing restrooms as well as porta potties. No showers available here. Every site is divisible by sections of split rail fencing so you know exactly which space is which. All sites have electric and potable water. Tiki bar on the river just next to the boat launch. Sand volleyball on the opposite side of tiki bar. We were there during the eclipse, so some pics look gloomy. Absolutely beautiful place and will gladly be back to camp there again soon. This place is truly a hidden gem!Not sure what campground rules & guidelines they have since we didn't see them listed anywhere, (check out times, nighttime quiet hours, how many miles the canoe trips are, who to contact should any emergencies arise after hours, what times the tiki bar is open, etc). We didn't encounter any issues while we were there unless you count the guy a few sites down singing karaoke until midnight..lol! His singing was awful, but we were still up until around 1 am and had our own low playing music turned on that helped drown him out. Other than that, no complaints whatsoever about this place & we had a great time!We had our own kayaks and went kayaking on the Wisconsin River without anyone disturbing our belongings. The bar has ice, firewood, etc should you need to purchase any while you're there.Great campground and I highly recommend it. Really looking forward to returning before the weather changes.
Aug 22, 2017 · Cindy TullyAwesome people along the river. Great little spot on a Sunday afternoon. Terry and family are always having something cool going on
Jun 11, 2023 · Franz SchreiberTraders island tiki bar is a lovely stop at the end of paddling the upper dells segment of the Wisconsin River. Beer music and a lively crowd on summer weekends.... And a great view of the river. The river is class 1 and an easy paddle. Take care in higher water and always watch for the tricky (potentially dangerous) eddys that occur at the downstream end of the numerous sandbars created by the river over the shifting Sandy bottom.
Feb 06, 2023 · Aj SueGreat place for a family and friends camping trip for a weekend. You can't fish and camp all right there. Water and electricity is a plus. The only thing that is missing is showers. Y they don't have them is ????. However, we do a lot of kayaking down the river. We do a 14 mile float. Then camp, fish ,bbq and drink beer. Not to mention the tiki bar they have .
