Turkey Hollow Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a more rustic and secluded "camping near me" experience, Turkey Hollow Campground, located at 7836 Township Rd 102, Millersburg, OH 44654, USA, offers a primitive camping environment. You can reach them at (330) 231-6935 or +1 330-231-6935 for inquiries. Based on recent and past visitor feedback, Turkey Hollow provides a back-to-nature experience with basic amenities amidst a scenic setting.
The environment at Turkey Hollow Campground is described as a "very nice primitive campground" situated in a hollow with wonderful views extending up towards the road. The campsites are private and secluded, nestled within this natural depression. Local users looking for a quiet and immersive outdoor experience within the "camping near me" category will likely appreciate the natural beauty and sense of isolation offered by this location. The presence of a pond adds to the visual appeal of the area, although its usability for activities like swimming was noted to be limited due to algae in a past visit.
In terms of services and features, Turkey Hollow Campground offers essential amenities for a self-sufficient camping experience. Visitors can expect a water tap with good drinking water available on-site, as well as a Porta John outhouse for restroom facilities. Recent updates in the fall of 2024 indicate the addition of power poles and what appears to be an additional water spigot, suggesting some level of electrical access may now be available at some sites, enhancing the convenience for local campers who rely on a bit of power. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring, and firewood is available for sale from the host, Matt, allowing for campfires and cooking.
It is crucial for local users considering Turkey Hollow Campground as their "camping near me" option to understand the primitive nature of the site. As highlighted in the reviews, the campground is best suited for tent camping. The entrance to the camping area involves dirt switchbacks, making it strongly unrecommended for hauling trailers or RVs down to the campsites. This limitation is a key factor for local campers with larger vehicles to consider.
The road leading to Turkey Hollow Campground, particularly if approaching from State Route 62 (SR62), is described as pretty rough, with a significant uphill climb for the last half mile to the site. For local users planning to arrive by bicycle from this direction, it's important to be aware of the steep hills that may require pushing the bike for a considerable distance. However, an update in the fall of 2024 notes that the road from the opposite direction of SR62 is paved, offering a potentially easier approach depending on the camper's origin.
One past visitor noted the presence of raccoons, a common occurrence in outdoor settings. However, they also mentioned that the raccoons were not a significant problem as long as trash and food items were stored securely and out of their reach. Local campers should take standard precautions for wildlife encounters, such as properly storing food and waste.
The positive feedback from visitors emphasizes the enjoyable and restful experience at Turkey Hollow. The privacy and seclusion of the campsites are consistently praised, contributing to a peaceful camping getaway. The cleanliness of the Porta John was also noted positively. The hospitality of the host, Matt, is highlighted, with reviewers expressing gratitude and a willingness to return if in the area.
While specific promotional information is not provided, the fall 2024 update mentions that the price to stay is higher than in 2020 but still considered very reasonable. Additionally, campers now have the convenience of using Hipcamp for online payment. Local users can check Hipcamp for current pricing and availability, potentially finding seasonal rates or other promotions offered by Turkey Hollow Campground.
In summary, Turkey Hollow Campground offers local users a primitive and secluded camping experience within a scenic hollow in Millersburg, Ohio. The basic amenities include a water tap, a Porta John, and fire rings at each site, with firewood available for purchase. Recent improvements include the addition of power poles and possibly another water spigot. The campground is ideal for tent camping, and accessing the sites with trailers or RVs is not recommended due to the terrain. While the road from SR62 can be challenging, the approach from the opposite direction is paved. The environment is praised for its natural beauty and privacy. Local campers seeking a quiet and rustic escape within the "camping near me" category will find Turkey Hollow to be a potentially excellent choice, provided they are prepared for primitive camping conditions and the access limitations for larger vehicles.
For local residents looking for a back-to-nature camping experience without the crowds, Turkey Hollow Campground provides a tranquil setting. The positive reviews regarding the host's hospitality and the secluded nature of the campsites suggest a welcoming and peaceful environment. However, it is essential to be prepared for the limited amenities and the access considerations, particularly for those with RVs or who prefer more developed campground facilities. Checking the latest information on Hipcamp regarding pricing, availability, and any specific guidelines or updates from the host is recommended for local users planning a visit to Turkey Hollow Campground.

Turkey Hollow Campground Reviews
Update fall 2024... the site is just as nice with some additions. There is power poles and what appears to be an additional water spigot. The road from the opposite direction of SR62 is in fact paved, but one should be aware that there are steep hills and it was hard to get up them with a fully loaded bike. I was the only one there and there were no raccoons present. The price to stay is higher then 2020, but still very reasonable and you can use Hipcamp to pay now if you like.Original summer 2020....Turkey Hollow is a very nice primitive campground with all you need if you are reasonably self sufficient. There is a water tap with good water and a Porta John outhouse. The location has a wonderful set of views from the hollow up to the road. The road is pretty rough getting there, if you are coming in from SR62 especially. On a bike, it was more then a little hard as you will be unable to peddle up most of the half mile from SR62 to the site and must push your bike. The pond was pretty fully of algae when I visited, and was not usable for anything except look at and perhaps fishing. The raccoon population is very much present, but was not a particularly bad problem as long as any trash or other such items are well out of their reach.
Oct 06, 2024 · Brad SpencerWe had a great time at Turkey Hollow! The camp site was private and secluded. Matt has firewood for sale and fire rings at each site, so we were able to have a small bonfire and roast some smores, then we enjoyed a quiet and restful night. The john was clean and just a short walk from where the sites are located. Note the entrance is down some dirt switchbacks so I wouldn't recommend trying to haul a trailer or RV down there. It is listed as primitive camping only for good reason. All in all, we'd like to extend our thanks to Matt for his hospitality, and we'd stay again if we were in the area!
Jul 01, 2022 · George MajorA great place to stay if you enjoy primitive camping. What you get is a place to pitch your tent, a fire ring, a port a pot, and more quiet nature than you can find just about anywhere. What you don't get is a paved pad to park your RV on, hookups, and another huge RV 10 feet away. It's a good place to stay if you're bicycle touring. It's only 1.5 miles from the Holmes County Trail but that last hill is a monster. Well worth the effort it takes to get there.
Jun 05, 2016 · Stan KingMatt was an excellent host. His campground was an amazing break from the busy day to day routine. I will absolutely go back with my family. Easy to catch fish in the pond! Decent space for a short walk. Everyone was friendly. A great expierence!
May 24, 2020 · Anthony AbitzJust wrapped up our Memorial Day weekend 2013 here at Turkey Hollow Campground. By far the best camping in Ohio. The description is as follows: Beautiful scenery, super campsites, great humble people. Would recommend this campsite to folks who like primitive camping. We will be spreading the good word to our friends and fellow camping enthusiasts about Turkey Hollow. We hope to return soon.
