Digit Point Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the scenic landscapes of Oregon? Digit Point Campground, situated near Chemult, OR 97731, USA, offers a unique opportunity for a more rustic and nature-focused camping experience. Located in a very nice area, this campground provides essential amenities while allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region. If you're seeking a break from the hustle and bustle and desire a tranquil escape close to water activities and stunning night skies, Digit Point Campground might be the perfect destination for your next outdoor adventure.
Digit Point Campground is described by visitors as a primitive campground. This typically means that while it offers basic necessities, it may not have the extensive facilities found in more developed campgrounds. According to visitor reviews, the campground provides water and restrooms. These fundamental amenities ensure a degree of comfort and convenience during your stay, allowing you to focus on enjoying the natural surroundings without being completely off-grid. The fact that the campground is reported as "well maintained" despite its primitive nature is a significant positive, suggesting that the facilities are kept in good order for visitor use.
One of the key features of Digit Point Campground is its prime location. It is situated between a boat launch and a designated swim area. This makes it an excellent choice for those who enjoy water-based activities. Whether you're planning to bring your boat for some time on the water or prefer swimming and enjoying the refreshing lake, Digit Point Campground offers easy access to both. The proximity to these areas enhances the recreational opportunities available to campers, making it a potentially ideal spot for a weekend of lakeside fun.
For anglers, Digit Point Campground appears to be a promising location. One visitor mentioned seeing "a lot of good sized fish" in the area. While this particular reviewer was unprepared and didn't have bait, the observation suggests that the waters near the campground are likely teeming with fish, offering a great opportunity for fishing enthusiasts to cast their lines and potentially enjoy a fresh catch. Remember to bring your fishing gear and appropriate bait to take full advantage of this feature.
Beyond the daytime activities, Digit Point Campground seems to offer a spectacular experience after dark. One visitor, despite encountering travel difficulties in reaching the campground, specifically mentioned having "a beautiful night with amazing stars." This suggests that the location benefits from dark skies, away from significant light pollution, making it an ideal spot for stargazing. Imagine spending your evenings under a blanket of brilliant stars, a truly awe-inspiring experience for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the beauty of the night sky.
It is important to note a significant piece of feedback from one visitor regarding navigation. They cautioned that Google Maps directed them onto an "unmaintained road" while attempting to reach the campground with an RV. This resulted in their vehicle getting stuck and damaged. This is a crucial piece of information for potential visitors. If you are traveling in a larger vehicle like an RV or towing a trailer, it is strongly recommended to exercise caution when using GPS navigation and perhaps seek alternative routes or verify the road conditions beforehand. Contacting the campground directly at (541) 947-2151 or +1 541-947-2151 to inquire about the best way to access the site, especially with a larger vehicle, would be a prudent step.
Considering the available information, Digit Point Campground offers a relatively basic but potentially rewarding camping experience for those who appreciate a more natural setting and enjoy water activities like boating and swimming, as well as the opportunity for excellent stargazing. The well-maintained restrooms and water supply provide essential comfort. However, the warning about potential navigation issues, particularly for larger vehicles, should be taken seriously, and visitors should plan their route carefully.
As a "camping near me" option in the Chemult, Oregon area, Digit Point Campground caters to those seeking a less developed site focused on the natural environment and access to the lake. It's a place where you can launch your boat, enjoy a swim, try your luck at fishing, and witness the breathtaking beauty of the Oregon night sky. While it may not offer the amenities of a full-service campground, its location and the experiences it provides could be highly appealing to a specific type of camper.
In summary, Digit Point Campground offers:
- A primitive camping experience with provided water and restrooms.
- A convenient location between a boat launch and a swim area.
- Potential for good fishing in the nearby waters.
- Excellent opportunities for stargazing due to dark night skies.
- A well-maintained environment despite its primitive nature.
However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported navigation issues, especially when traveling in larger vehicles, and are advised to verify the best route to the campground. If you value a more rustic camping experience with access to lake activities and stunning celestial views, Digit Point Campground could be a worthwhile option to explore in the Chemult, Oregon area.

Digit Point Campground Reviews
This campground was recommended by a ranger at Crater lake. Google maps took us on an unmaintained road. My fault for thinking we could get the RV through. BEWARE. We got stuck and broke the tail pipe.We did have a beautiful night with amazing stars on the bright side.
Jul 19, 2024 · Hans GritschVery nice area. Campground was primitive with water and restrooms but was well maintained and located between the boat launch and swim area. A lot of good sized fish although I want prepared and didn't have worms with me.
Jul 18, 2022 · John Meeker (Jackal97603)Maps is incorrect on the location of this campground. The best way to accurately get here is to look for Digit Point Day Use Area or for Miller Lake. Great campground, lots of lake view sites as well as decent sized sites. Potable water readily available. $12 per night for one vehicle and tent camping. No fire wood available for purchase when I went so I'd recommend bringing some with you.
Sep 09, 2019 · Alex SpencerLast time I went to digit point I got a huge 25 inch rainbow. It tried to steel my fishing pole and I had to go out and get it back. Waist deep water fighting a fish for about 10 minutes. It was pretty nice.
Sep 27, 2021 · Trudy BivensVery awesome lake and campground. Tucked way back probably 12 miles or so off the highway down a gravel road. Nice secluded spot to spend the weekend!
