Located at Beals Point, Granite Bay, CA 95746, USA, this popular destination is part of the extensive Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, offering a blend of natural beauty, recreational activities, and convenient amenities. It's a versatile spot, suitable for anything from a few hours of peace to a week-long camping adventure.
Beals Point Recreation Area is renowned for its "beautiful landscape," situated directly on the shores of Folsom Lake. This prime lakeside location provides stunning views and direct access to the water, making it a focal point for aquatic activities. The environment is characterized by open spaces, mature trees that offer shade, and the expansive blue waters of the lake, creating a serene and picturesque setting. The area is well-maintained, contributing to a pleasant experience for visitors.
Geographically, Granite Bay is nestled in Placer County, California, at the western edge of the Sierra Nevada foothills. This location offers a convenient balance between natural wilderness and accessibility to urban conveniences. As one reviewer noted, camping in your "hometown" (referring to the general Sacramento area) means "your friends can come and visit you" and "you know where everything is if you need to make a food run." There's "food within about a mile in case you don't want to cook," highlighting the ease of access to local services and supplies. The direct access to the bike trail is another significant environmental feature, promoting an active outdoor lifestyle right from the campsite.
The climate generally features hot, dry summers ideal for water activities on Folsom Lake, and mild, wet winters. Visitors should be prepared for varying temperatures and plan accordingly, especially during peak summer months when the sun can be intense. The natural landscape provides a habitat for various wildlife, enhancing the outdoor experience, though specific mentions of wildlife encounters beyond general natural beauty are not detailed in the provided reviews.
Beals Point Recreation Area offers a comprehensive range of services and features, particularly for campers, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Key aspects include:
- Campground Facilities: The campground is well-equipped to host campers for extended stays. One review specifically highlights "handicap space 67," describing it as "fabulous." This particular site "offers shade in the afternoon on hot days, it was completely flat, very roomy, and right next door to really nice, clean handicapped restrooms and showers." This detailed feedback emphasizes the quality of accessible amenities and the spaciousness of individual campsites, capable of holding "a huge tent besides holding at least three vehicles and a trailer." This suggests that many sites are generously sized to accommodate various camping setups.
- Restrooms and Showers: The availability of "really nice, clean handicapped restrooms and showers" is a significant convenience for campers, providing essential hygiene facilities. However, it's crucial to note that "no bathrooms or snack available off season," indicating that certain services might be seasonal. Visitors planning an off-season trip should be aware of this limitation.
- Direct Trail Access: A major feature is the campsite's location "adjacent to the bike trail so it's real easy to access for your bikes or trikes." Beals Point is a popular starting or ending point for the American River Parkway Trail, a paved multi-use trail that extends for miles along the American River, offering excellent opportunities for cycling, walking, and running.

- Picnicking: The "beautiful landscape" and available open spaces make it perfect for picnicking, with many visitors coming for "a few hours of peace."
- Dog-Friendly: The park is noted as being suitable for "taking your kids and/or your dog," indicating a pet-friendly policy. However, specific rules regarding leashes and restricted areas for pets should be verified.
- Camp Host: The presence of a "camp host" who was "really nice and helpful" speaks to the on-site support and assistance available to campers, contributing to a more positive and secure experience.
- Entrance Fee: There is an entrance fee to access Beals Point Recreation Area, which was "$12 in 2024." This fee is advantageous as it "also gives you access to all the other Folsom areas for the day," allowing visitors to explore multiple points within the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area on a single pass.
Beals Point Recreation Area's appeal as a top "Camping Near Me" destination in the Granite Bay and wider Sacramento region is multifaceted. Its primary draw is its prime location on Folsom Lake, offering direct access to water recreation and a scenic backdrop. The emphasis on well-maintained facilities, including clean and accessible restrooms and showers, and spacious campsites, promotes a comfortable and enjoyable stay for a variety of campers, including those with accessibility needs.
The extensive network of bike trails accessible directly from the campground is a significant promotional feature for active individuals and families. The ability to bring dogs and enjoy a serene natural environment further broadens its appeal. While specific seasonal promotional offers or goods for sale are not detailed in the provided information, the value derived from the daily entrance fee, which grants access to multiple Folsom Lake areas, is a strong selling point for day-use visitors as well as campers.

For those seeking a blend of outdoor adventure, relaxation, and convenient access to both natural beauty and urban amenities, Beals Point Recreation Area presents an excellent choice. Beals Point Recreation Area Reviews
Beautiful landscape, perfect for a fee hours of peace or taking your kids and/or your dog. You need to pay a fee to enter ($12 in 2024) that also gives you access to all the other Folsom areas for the day. No bathrooms or snack available off season.
Nov 24, 2024 · Patricia BaldrichI stayed for a week at Beals Point Campground. I was in handicap space 67, and it was fabulous. It offers shade in the afternoon on hot days,it was completely flat, very roomy, and right next door to really nice, clean handicapped restrooms and showers. The campsite was big enough to pitch a huge tent besides holding at least three vehicles and a trailer. The campsite is located adjacent to the bike trail so it's real easy to access for your bikes or trikes. The camp host was really nice and helpful. The cool thing about camping in your hometown is your friends can come and visit you, you know where everything is if you need to make a food run. Plus there's food within about a mile in case you don't want to cook. I highly recommend handicapped space 67 at Beals Point Campground

Oct 08, 2024 · JamakeBeals Point State Recreation Area on Folsom lake is an excellent place to visit for a relaxing day of outdoor activities. Swimming, fishing, sunbathing, hiking, and bicycling are just the beginning of the many things that await you at this beautiful, easy to access location. There is also a year-around campground, with reservations required, that has 69 spots for tents, trailers, and RVs. Full hook ups for your RVs are also available. And this campground is one of only two on Folsom lake. One visit and you will be "hooked."
Apr 03, 2025 · Bruce S.Stayed at the campground. Has two sections. One is dry camping and the other is full hook ups. Dry camping section is a little nicer with more shade. The beach area is very nice with swimming. There are lifeguards and snack bar during summer. Many hiking and biking trails around the lake. Good for mountain bikes.
