Upper Twin Lake Campground Introduce
Looking for a convenient and enjoyable camping experience in Oregon? If you're searching for 'camping near me', consider Upper Twin Lake Campground, located near Government Camp. This campground offers a unique experience, primarily accessed via a relatively easy hike, making it a notable option for those who enjoy a bit of trekking to reach their campsite. Based on recent feedback from visitors, Upper Twin Lake provides some appealing features, particularly for group camping and lake activities.
Location and Accessibility: Upper Twin Lake Campground is situated at Trail #495 Spur 1, Government Camp, OR 97028, USA. Unlike campgrounds accessible by vehicle, reaching Upper Twin Lake typically involves a hike, often starting from the Frog Lake trailhead. One reviewer mentioned an "easy hike in from Frog Lake," suggesting that the trek to the campground is manageable for a range of fitness levels. This hike-in nature contributes to the campground's more secluded and natural ambiance, away from the immediate hustle of drive-up camping areas.
The Natural Environment: The centerpiece of Upper Twin Lake Campground is, of course, Upper Twin Lake itself. Visitors have described the lake as surprisingly warmer than expected, which makes it particularly inviting for swimming. This is a significant plus for those looking to cool off during warmer months. However, it's worth noting that one visitor found the lake to be quite shallow, mentioning they could walk across it and never find water deeper than four feet. This shallowness might impact activities like boating or fishing. The environment surrounding the lake is conducive to a pleasant camping experience, although specific details about the forest or surrounding terrain were not extensively covered in the provided reviews.
Camping Amenities and Features: The reviews specifically highlighted that Upper Twin Lake offers "great spots for group camping." This suggests that the campground has areas suitable for larger parties who wish to camp together, which can be a significant advantage for family reunions or gatherings of friends. Beyond this, the reviews did not detail specific amenities like restrooms, water sources, or designated fire pits. As a hike-in campground, it's likely more rustic, requiring campers to be self-sufficient in many aspects.
Activities and Recreation: The primary recreational activities mentioned by visitors are hiking and swimming. The easy hike in makes it an accessible destination for those wanting a camping experience that involves a bit of light trekking. The warmer lake is a definite highlight for swimming enthusiasts. However, one reviewer explicitly stated, "No fish present," which is crucial information for those considering this campground for fishing. While the surrounding trails might offer opportunities for further exploration, the reviews focused mainly on the hike to the campground and the lake itself.
Considerations Based on Visitor Feedback: While Upper Twin Lake Campground has its positives, the provided reviews also brought up a couple of notable issues. One camper mentioned a significant problem with toilet paper being left unburied, urging hikers to be more responsible. This highlights the importance of practicing Leave No Trace principles, especially in more remote camping areas. Additionally, there were concerns raised about hikers allowing untrained dogs off-leash, with instances of dogs wandering into campsites and owners having poor control over their animals. If you plan to bring a dog, ensuring it is well-trained and kept on a leash would be essential for a harmonious experience with other campers.
Promotional Information and Why Choose Upper Twin Lake: If you are a local user in search of 'camping near me' and value a hike-in camping experience with opportunities for group camping and swimming in a warmer lake, Upper Twin Lake Campground could be a great option for you. The easy access via hiking trails, particularly from Frog Lake, makes it suitable for a weekend getaway that combines light exercise with relaxation by the water. The availability of group camping spots is a significant draw for larger parties. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues regarding improperly disposed of waste and off-leash dogs and come prepared to be responsible campers. While fishing may not be an option here, the swimming and hiking aspects offer their own rewards. For those looking for a more natural and slightly secluded camping experience that requires a short hike, Upper Twin Lake near Government Camp, Oregon, is worth considering. Remember to pack appropriately for a hike-in campsite and be mindful of leaving no trace to help preserve the beauty of this area for everyone to enjoy.

Upper Twin Lake Campground Reviews
Nice and easy to hike into. Great spots for group camping. Lake is warmer than you might to expect. Making it great for swimming. Couple small issues. One, there was toilet paper everywhere. Hikers do not bury very much. Two, for some reason hikets feel it is ok to let untrained dogs off least here. There were a half dozen times dogs wandered into our camp with owners that had no control over their animals
