Location and Accessibility: Situated near Government Camp on Mt. Hood, Still Creek Campground benefits from its prime location in a region renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. The address on E Perry Vickers Rd indicates it's likely easily accessible by vehicle. Its proximity to Government Camp means campers have convenient access to any supplies or amenities they might need, while its closeness to Trillium Lake opens up opportunities for scenic visits, photography, and possibly water-related activities. For local users in Oregon, this location offers a relatively short drive to a mountain camping experience without being too remote.
The Natural Environment: Still Creek Campground is nestled within a forest, providing a classic Pacific Northwest camping ambiance. Campers have praised the widely spaced and private nature of the campsites, allowing for a more secluded and quiet experience compared to campgrounds where sites are closer together. The tranquility of the environment is a significant draw, with one reviewer specifically noting how quiet it was. Adding to the natural charm, Canadian Jays (also known as Gray Jays or Camp Robbers) are known to frequent the campground, even becoming bold enough to almost eat from your hand, offering a unique wildlife encounter. While immersed in the forest, one reviewer did mention that the proximity to the main road means some road noise can be audible at the campsites. However, this seems to be a minor trade-off for the convenience of the location.
Services and Amenities: Cleanliness appears to be a priority at Still Creek Campground, with one first-time Mt. Hood camper noting that the campground was "very clean." While the specific amenities aren't exhaustively listed, the mention of a large truck coming through early in the morning, likely to service the "vault toilets," indicates the presence of these facilities. The positive remarks about cleanliness suggest that these basic amenities are well-maintained. We can likely assume the presence of standard campsite features such as designated camping spots, possibly with picnic tables and fire rings, although these are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. The availability of a phone number ((541) 328-0909 or +1 541-328-0909) suggests that campers can easily contact the campground for inquiries or reservations, if applicable.
Features and Activities: The standout features of Still Creek Campground include its spacious and private campsites, the quiet forest setting, and the unique interactions with Canadian Jays. Its strategic location near Government Camp and Trillium Lake also makes it an excellent base for exploring these nearby attractions. Government Camp offers various amenities and access to further recreational activities on Mt. Hood, while Trillium Lake is renowned for its stunning reflections of Mt. Hood and opportunities for hiking, fishing, and non-motorized boating. The campground itself seems ideal for those who appreciate a more secluded and peaceful camping experience. Still Creek Campground Reviews
Great campground. Sites widely spaced and private, very quiet. Close to Government Camp and Trillium Lake. Canadian Jays come into camp and almost eat from your hand. We'll definitely be back.
Sep 01, 2024 · Milamber503This was our first camping experience on Mt Hood. The campground was very clean and the spots are spaced well, so you don't feel crowded. While this campground is situated in the forest, the proximity to the main road is convenient but you can hear road noise while at your site. There was also a large truck that came through the campsite very early, like before 6am, that was very loud. I think it might have been the truck to clean out the vault toilets. I would definitely camp here again.
Aug 16, 2020 · Laura HollandOur campsite was extremely spacious and clean. The vault toilets were clean as well. We had decent mobile service (T-Mobile). It is close to highway so you can probably hear some vehicle noises from some campsites. There are few lodges close by as well. The creek behind our campsite was very small (probably 3ft wide).
Jul 07, 2022 · Akhil ManepalliWe stayed here several years ago, but this time around we are disappointed with the upkeep of the roads, campsites and toilets. We were attacked, while on a walk, by the camp hosts German shepherd. There was no place to register, although we had reservations. I've emailed the forest service in Hope's that they will do a little maintenance and clean up to make this park nice.
Jun 01, 2019 · Perry ColeA very solid campground with widely spaced and Private spaces. While it feels some distance from the road, there is actually a bit of traffic noise for some of the camping spots close to the creek.
