Beautiful camp. We got a little rain, but that is to be expected. There is a nature walk in the camp, which was perfect for our high energy kids. Lots of nice people, some noisy dogs. Very quite at night. There is a river that runs next to the camp that is great for fishing.Make sure to purchase firewood in town and bring it with you, this is a popular campsite and is very picked over. We had to do a lot scavenging for wood. Our spot was also in the sun 90% of the time, so I would suggest a pop up canopy. It is also very close to a dame, which was fun to see. There is also stocked ponds with docks for fishing. - AHeartofMusic23

Yellowpine Campground Introduce

For those searching for an exceptional "Camping Near Me" experience in the heart of Utah's natural splendor, Yellowpine Campground stands out as a hidden gem, highly recommended for families and anyone seeking a blend of tranquility and engaging outdoor activities. Located at FR134, Duchesne, UT 84078, USA, within the scenic Ashley National Forest, this campground offers a well-maintained and picturesque setting, boasting a range of amenities that enhance the traditional camping adventure.

Environment and Setting

Yellowpine Campground is situated next to Rock Creek, in the Rock Creek Drainage on the southern slope of the majestic Uinta Mountains. The elevation of the campground is approximately 7,200 to 7,552 feet, providing a refreshing escape, especially during the warmer months, with cool evenings. The environment is characterized by towering Ponderosa pine trees, which offer abundant shade, and aspens, which provide beautiful fall colors. Sagebrush and wildflowers dot the landscape, adding to the natural beauty. The serene sound of Rock Creek running alongside the camp creates a peaceful ambiance, perfect for unwinding.

The campground features paved roads and parking spurs, which are a significant convenience, making access easy for various vehicle types, including RVs and trailers. While some sites might receive more sun, as noted by a past visitor, the overall tree coverage is plentiful, providing a desirable forest feel. The campsites are spacious and well-spaced, ensuring privacy and a sense of seclusion, even when the campground is popular.

Services and Facilities

Yellowpine Campground offers 17 to 34 campsites (sources vary slightly on the exact number, but it's a good size campground), accommodating single, double, and group sites. Many of these sites are reservable, allowing campers to plan their trips in advance, especially during the peak season from late May to early September. Fees are reasonable, typically ranging from $10 to $30 per night for single sites, with additional fees for extra vehicles. Campers can make reservations through Recreation.gov or by calling the provided phone number: (435) 738-2482.

The campground boasts a commendable array of facilities that elevate the camping experience. Unlike many rustic campgrounds, Yellowpine offers accessible flush toilets, which are frequently praised in reviews for being clean and well-maintained. Potable drinking water spigots are conveniently available throughout the campground, eliminating the need to haul in large quantities of water. Additionally, a dump station is located on-site, a significant benefit for RV and trailer campers. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill, perfect for cooking and enjoying a campfire (always check for current fire restrictions). While some reviews mention firewood being scarce due to the campground's popularity, it is available for purchase from the camp host, or campers can bring their own from town.

Camp hosts are typically present and are noted for being helpful and attentive without being intrusive. While cell service can be limited or nonexistent in the area, this often contributes to the desired disconnected feel of a wilderness retreat. It's important for campers to be aware that bears frequent the area, so proper food storage in sealed containers is essential to prevent attracting wildlife. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash, and quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. to ensure a peaceful environment for all.

Features and Recreational Activities

Yellowpine Campground is rich with features that make it a truly family-friendly destination. A major highlight is the paved interpretive nature trail within the camp, about half a mile long, with signs detailing local nature, trees, and the river. This trail is perfect for high-energy kids, leisurely strolls, biking, or even scooters, as noted by a satisfied visitor. The presence of Rock Creek running next to the camp makes it excellent for fishing, with opportunities to catch brown, brook, and rainbow trout. Moreover, there are stocked ponds with docks for fishing nearby, providing additional angling opportunities. Kayaking and whitewater rafting are also options seasonally.

Beyond the campground, numerous hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails crisscross the beautiful region, including the Rock Creek Trail which extends into the High Uinta Wilderness Area. This offers opportunities for more extensive hiking, backpacking, and wildlife viewing. Nearby attractions include Upper Stillwater Reservoir and Lower Stillwater Ponds, which offer swimming, picnicking, and further fishing opportunities. The proximity to a dam also provides an interesting site for visitors to see.
