Diamond Point Campground Introduce
Nestled in Holton, Michigan, Diamond Point Campground offers a rustic, primitive camping experience for those seeking a local outdoor escape. Situated near the Muskegon River, this campground caters to individuals and small groups looking for basic amenities and access to nature. For local users searching for "camping near me," Diamond Point Campground presents an option for a straightforward camping experience in a natural setting.
Environment and Location: Diamond Point Campground benefits from its proximity to the Muskegon River, a significant natural resource in the region. The river provides opportunities for fishing and kayaking, making it an attractive spot for outdoor enthusiasts. The surrounding area is characterized by a natural landscape, offering a chance to connect with the outdoors. However, it's important to note that based on recent visitor feedback, the sense of isolation some campers might seek in a primitive setting may be limited due to local traffic for river access and recreational activities.
Services and Amenities: As a primitive campground, Diamond Point offers basic amenities. According to visitor reviews, there is a single toilet facility available. It's crucial to understand that the campsites operate on a self-pay system, accepting cash or checks only. This indicates a no-frills approach to camping, requiring visitors to be self-sufficient in many aspects of their stay. One recent review mentioned that the pit toilet was closed during the winter season, highlighting the need for potential campers to be aware of seasonal limitations.
Features and Activities: The primary features of Diamond Point Campground revolve around its access to the Muskegon River. The clean and easily accessible river is a draw for those interested in fishing and kayaking. The presence of a river trail also suggests opportunities for hiking along the riverbank. However, it's worth considering the feedback regarding local traffic, including vehicles and off-road vehicles, which some visitors have noted traveling through the camping area during both day and night. This could impact the tranquility of the camping experience.
Promotional Information and Value: Diamond Point Campground is priced at a modest $10 per night, which, at first glance, appears to offer an affordable camping option for local users. However, potential campers should weigh this cost against the reported experiences of other visitors. Some reviews suggest that while the price is low, the overall value might be less appealing when considering the lack of privacy and the level of traffic. It's advisable for individuals seeking a secluded camping experience to consider these factors.
Visitor Experiences and Considerations: Recent reviews provide valuable insights into the actual camping experience at Diamond Point. A recurring theme in the feedback is the significant amount of local traffic, including vehicles accessing the river for fishing and kayaking, as well as the use of off-road vehicles within the camping area. This has been noted to occur both during the day and night, potentially disrupting the peace and quiet that some campers expect. One visitor specifically mentioned the lack of a "backwoods camp" feel due to the traffic and the condition of the two available campsites.
Another reviewer who attempted winter camping found only two campsites, which were described as being in poor condition. This suggests that the upkeep and the number of available sites might be limited. The same review also highlighted the continued local traffic even during the off-season, further emphasizing this aspect of the campground.
While the river access is consistently mentioned as a positive aspect, the negative feedback regarding traffic and the overall camping environment should be carefully considered by local users searching for "camping near me." If a secluded and peaceful camping experience is a priority, Diamond Point Campground may not meet those expectations based on the experiences shared by recent visitors.
Recommendation for Local Users: For local residents in the Holton area looking for a basic camping spot primarily for river access (fishing and kayaking) and who are less concerned about privacy and potential noise from local traffic, Diamond Point Campground offers an affordable option at $10 per night. However, it is crucial to be aware of the limited amenities (single toilet, self-pay cash/check only) and the reported issues with traffic and campsite conditions. If a more private and tranquil camping experience with better facilities is desired, exploring other local campgrounds in the surrounding area, as suggested by one of the reviewers, might be a more suitable choice.
Before planning a trip to Diamond Point Campground, it would be beneficial to consider the recent feedback and align your expectations with the primitive nature and reported conditions of the site. If your priority is solely river access and budget is a primary concern, this campground could serve a purpose. However, if you value peace, quiet, and a more traditional camping experience, researching alternative "camping near me" options in the Holton area is highly recommended.
In conclusion, Diamond Point Campground offers a budget-friendly, primitive camping experience with direct access to the Muskegon River. Its key features include river access for fishing and kayaking. However, potential local users should be aware of the limited amenities, the self-pay system, and the significant local traffic reported by recent visitors, which may detract from the overall camping experience. Consider your priorities for a camping trip before choosing Diamond Point Campground as your local getaway.

Diamond Point Campground Reviews
This is a nice little area for primitive camping. If you're looking to isolate away from the world, this isn't the place for you. There is 1 toliet and the campsites are self pay cash/ check only. My biggest issue is the traffic. A lot of locals come in and out for fishing and kayaking. Not to mention, they ride their 4 wheelers up and down the camping area. It happens during the day and night. The river next to the site was clean and easy to access. It's good for $10 a night but very unlikely I'll return. You'll get a better value staying at a local camp ground in he area .
Sep 22, 2024 · Joshua FairchildJan 3,2023 … went over to enjoy some winter camping hoping to see a nice backwoods camp on the river. I Saw what was there and left. 2 spots is what they have and both spots were beat up pretty bad. There was alot of car traffic just in the 10 min i was there 7 vehicles came through and a few folks stopping to hike the river trail. to many people and traffic for me so i moved on to a different area up North. In the photos are a pic of both sites the trucks on site #2 ,,, the pit toilet is closed for the season for you folks who are afraid to go in the woods.
Jan 07, 2024 · nathan goodfellowI visited this remote park on a Monday afternoon in the month of May as the spring leaves were just starting to appear. The only sounds that could be heard were that of birds. The primary amenities of the park are a few campsites, a canoe launch area—complete with steps down to the White River—and a single pit toilet. It is a very beautiful area and reminds me of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. During my visit, I took a number of 360 panoramic photos. Check them out in Google Street View to get the full virtual reality experience. If you enjoy quiet and beautiful natural surroundings, then this park is definitely worth a visit.
May 11, 2017 · Kirk SchultzThis camp ground is fantastic! It has stairs to the river and public bathrooms and garbage cans. Picnic tables and several good picture spots. We stop here on our way down the river. Wish there was more flat ground for tents but perfect for hammock camping.
Jun 11, 2018 · Angelica FillmoreNice area and beautiful setting but there's only 2 campsites that are first come first serve and no way of knowing if there's any free space so it's impossible to plan on going there. Then you have buses from the Happy Mohawk Canoe Livery driving through all day long. Rangers are horribly rude. Was only one ranger that was pleasant. Garbage can is tiny and rarely cleaned out. There's only one vault toilet and it's normally disgusting. Not a good place to stay but not the worst place to visit for a day. There are still many better places, though where you wouldn't have to deal with the BS that comes along with this place
