Karner Blue Campground Introduce
If you are searching for "camping near me" in the Montague, Michigan area, Karner Blue Campground, located at 9228 S 88th Ave, Montague, MI 49437, USA, presents itself as a quiet option with a limited number of campsites. However, recent customer reviews indicate significant concerns regarding the accuracy of advertised amenities, the condition of the grounds, and the usability of the lake. Potential visitors should carefully consider these points before making a reservation.
The environment at Karner Blue Campground is described by one reviewer as "very quiet." This could be appealing to campers seeking a peaceful and secluded getaway, as another review noted only a few other campers present during a weekend stay. The campground reportedly has 25 sites equipped with water and electric hookups. This basic service might be adequate for some RVers or those with camping setups requiring these utilities. However, the tranquility appears to be overshadowed by other environmental and facility-related issues.
One of the most significant drawbacks highlighted in the reviews is the lack of essential services. Notably, the campground does not have showers or traditional bathrooms; instead, it provides only portapotties. This absence of standard restroom facilities is a major point of dissatisfaction for reviewers, with one stating, "Not what we expected" and another explicitly mentioning that "this place needs showers." For many campers, especially those staying for more than a night or traveling with families, the lack of proper bathroom facilities can significantly detract from the overall camping experience.
The condition of the man-made lake at Karner Blue Campground is also a significant concern. Reviewers describe it as "full of weeds," making swimming undesirable, with one stating, "You can’t swim in this lake unless you want to get stuck in the weeds." Furthermore, accessing the lake reportedly involves navigating a "rough area," and there is a lack of flat spots to sit and enjoy the water. One reviewer also noted garbage on the "beach" area, further diminishing the appeal of the lake as a recreational amenity. These descriptions paint a picture of a water feature that is far from being a pleasant or usable amenity for campers.
The overall upkeep and maintenance of the campground appear to be lacking, according to the reviews. One guest mentioned "glass all over the place," indicating a potential safety hazard and a lack of attention to cleanliness. Another reviewer pointed out a sign at the wood station stating that the campground did not complete everything due to the spring "getting away from them." This suggests potential neglect or unfinished projects, contributing to a less-than-ideal environment for visitors.
The issue of "false advertising" is also raised in one review, with the guest stating that the campground does not have things listed on its site. This discrepancy between what is advertised and what is actually available led to significant disappointment, particularly for teenagers who were looking forward to certain amenities that were not present. This lack of transparency and accuracy in advertising can severely impact the trust and satisfaction of potential campers.
Considering the category "camping near me," Karner Blue Campground, based on recent feedback, falls short in several key areas that campers typically expect. While it offers a quiet setting and basic water and electric hookups at its 25 sites, the absence of showers and proper bathrooms, the poor condition and accessibility of the lake, and concerns about overall maintenance and the accuracy of advertising are significant drawbacks. For those prioritizing essential amenities and recreational opportunities, Karner Blue Campground may not meet expectations.
In terms of promotional information derived from the reviews, there is very little positive feedback that could be considered promotional. The only positive mention is the politeness and sympathy of the maintenance person, which, while commendable, does not compensate for the significant shortcomings of the campground itself. The overwhelming sentiment in the reviews is one of disappointment and caution to other potential renters.
Given the strong negative feedback regarding the lack of essential amenities, the poor condition of the lake and surrounding areas, and the potential for false advertising, it is difficult to recommend Karner Blue Campground without significant reservations. While the quiet atmosphere and the availability of water and electric hookups might appeal to a very specific type of camper with low amenity expectations, the majority of visitors would likely find the lack of showers and bathrooms, the unusable lake, and the apparent lack of maintenance to be major deterrents.
In conclusion, if your search for "camping near me" prioritizes quiet over extensive amenities and you are prepared for the absence of showers and traditional bathrooms, and do not plan on using the lake for recreation, Karner Blue Campground might be an option to consider due to its water and electric hookups and potentially low occupancy. However, the significant concerns raised by multiple reviewers regarding the accuracy of advertising, the state of the lake, and the overall maintenance of the campground warrant extreme caution. Potential campers are strongly advised to seek further information and recent updates from the campground directly and to weigh the negative feedback heavily before making a reservation. Contacting Karner Blue Campground at (231) 880-5183 or +1 231-880-5183 for the most current information is highly recommended.

Karner Blue Campground Reviews
Gave them a 2 only because the maintenance person was very polite and sympathetic about the false advertising. They do not have things listed on the site. Very disappointed in this as my teenage boys were super bummed. They have a sign on the wood station saying they are sorry the spring got away from them so they did not complete everything. Glass all over the place! The man made lake is full of weeds and you have to go through a rough area to get to it and there isn’t a flat spot to sit. You can’t swim in this lake unless you want to get stuck in the weeds. We made the best of it but I will never rent from them again and I would caution others on doing so until they put some time, effort, & money into this place.
Jul 08, 2024 · Kelly MarshallVery quiet campground. They have 25 sites with water and electric. Only 5 other campers were here the weekend we were, and only two of the campers had people staying in them. There are no showers/bathrooms, only portapotties. Not what we expected. The lake is difficult to get to, very weedy, and there was garbage on the "beach". It looks like there have been some upgrades, but this place needs showers.
Aug 27, 2022 · Lucinda HoughOur favorite campground! This is our third year as a seasonal spot. It's quiet, low-key, and nothing fancy, which is exactly how we like it.
Sep 09, 2024 · Confidence Beyond Hair LossIf you are looking for a quite, peaceful, and friendly campground this is your place. It has the basic amenities like water, electric, and a pump out station. It’s a no frills, easy going location with lots of acreage to walk. We love our seasonal spot!
Jun 25, 2022 · Rachael KaminskiAwesome campground. My wife and I absolutely love it here.. It is a great place to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. Very friendly people, and a great place to bring the dog and hike through the woods and go for a dip in the pond. Just a short drive to downtown Montague in case you want to play a tourist for the day or to enjoy a bite to eat. If you are looking for all the bells and whistles like playgrounds and a pool for the kids this isn’t the place for you. However if you are looking for nice peaceful spot with electric and water hook up this is the perfect spot.
