Moon Lake Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking an authentic "camping near me" experience that blends immersion in nature with convenient amenities, Moon Lake Campground, located off FR 714 in Utah, stands out as a cherished destination. Praised by returning visitors as an "all time favorite," Moon Lake Campground offers a unique balance for those who appreciate real camping but also value certain comforts. While not a full-service resort, it provides a gateway to hiking, fishing, swimming, and breathtaking natural beauty, complemented by the option of staying in cabins.
Immerse Yourself in the Natural Environment:
The reviews consistently highlight the stunning natural environment surrounding Moon Lake Campground. One long-time visitor emphasized the "amazing views," suggesting a location with picturesque scenery that captivates and delights. The campground's proximity to Moon Lake itself allows for various water-based activities, including fishing and swimming. The clear implication is that the area is rich in natural beauty, offering a tranquil escape from the everyday.
The mention of hiking as a primary activity indicates the presence of trails that allow visitors to explore the surrounding landscapes. These trails likely offer opportunities to witness the diverse flora and fauna of the region, further enhancing the connection with nature that Moon Lake Campground promotes. Even after the resort and cabins closed for the season, one visitor recounted the presence of bugling elk, underscoring the abundant wildlife that inhabits the area and provides memorable encounters for nature enthusiasts.
The emphasis on stargazing and moon viewing during the nights suggests minimal light pollution, allowing for spectacular celestial displays. This feature is particularly appealing to those seeking a deeper connection with the natural world and the beauty of the night sky.
Cabin Comforts Amidst Nature:
A significant feature of Moon Lake Campground is the availability of cabins located by the lake. These cabins offer a step up from traditional tent camping, providing "decent beds," showers, and toilets. This option caters to those who desire a more comfortable lodging experience while still being immersed in the natural beauty of the area. The fact that families have been returning to these cabins for years speaks to their quality and the overall appeal of this type of accommodation.
The distinction made by one reviewer – "If you are looking for real, in tune with nature camping (with the bonus of showers, toilets, decent beds, and an amazingly accommodating staff) then this will become one of your favorites" – clearly defines the niche that Moon Lake Campground occupies. It's for those who appreciate the essence of camping but value certain conveniences that make the experience more comfortable and accessible.
Fishing Opportunities in Moon Lake:
Fishing is another key activity enjoyed by visitors to Moon Lake Campground. While one off-season visitor reported catching "a couple of small trout using lures," the overall impression is that the lake offers fishing opportunities. This suggests that local anglers seeking "fishing near me" might find Moon Lake a worthwhile destination. The experience of catching fish in a beautiful mountain lake can be a highlight of any camping trip.
A Welcoming and Accommodating Staff:
The positive feedback regarding the staff at Moon Lake Campground is noteworthy. Described as "amazingly accommodating," the staff likely contributes significantly to the positive experiences of the visitors. Friendly and helpful staff can enhance a camping trip, providing assistance and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Not a Full-Service Resort:
It's important to note, as one reviewer pointed out, that Moon Lake Campground is not a "full service resort." This sets expectations appropriately for potential visitors. Those seeking extensive amenities and a highly developed resort experience might find this campground more rustic. The focus here is clearly on the natural environment and a more traditional camping feel, albeit with the added comfort of cabins and basic facilities.
A Hidden Gem to Cherish:
The sentiment expressed by one reviewer – "Just don't tell everyone ;)" and ". . . I like that the world hasn't found out that this little slice of amazing exists :)" – speaks volumes about the special nature of Moon Lake Campground. It suggests a place that feels like a hidden gem, cherished by those who have discovered its unique charm and tranquility. This exclusivity can add to its appeal for locals seeking a peaceful and less crowded "camping near me" experience.
Ideal for Families and Nature Lovers:
The combination of cabin stays, hiking, fishing, swimming, and the beautiful natural surroundings makes Moon Lake Campground an ideal destination for families seeking a memorable outdoor vacation. The opportunity to enjoy nature during the day and relax in a comfortable cabin at night offers a balanced experience that can appeal to a wide range of ages and camping comfort levels.
Limited Information on Specific Services and Promotions:
The provided reviews offer valuable insights into the environment, activities, and overall atmosphere of Moon Lake Campground. However, they do not contain specific details about all the services offered (beyond showers and toilets in the cabins) or any current promotional information. Local users interested in learning more about specific campsite amenities, cabin availability and pricing, or any special offers should likely contact the campground directly or search for an official website or contact information online using "Moon Lake Campground Utah" as their search term.

This place is one of my all time favorites! My family and I have been coming here for years. We stay in the cabins by the lake and spend our days hiking, fishing, swimming, and enjoying the amazing views and our nights staring at the stars and moon.If you are looking for full service resort or have issues actually camping, this place isn't for you.If you are looking for real, in tune with nature camping (with the bonus of showers, toilets, decent beds, and an amazingly accommodating staff) then this will become one of your favorites.Just don't tell everyone ;). . . Jul 08, 2020 · Mr RogersWe went after the resort and cabins were closed for the season. We saw about a dozen people that morning. Elk were bugling when we first got there. We caught a couple of small trout using lures and had a good time.
Nov 10, 2018 · Lisa JensenFirst time camping and it was a great place, super friendly host and clean campground. Will be back next year for sure.
Sep 04, 2022 · StephenBeautiful mountain scenery. The camp ground is really nice and well maintained. Our kids enjoyed the sand and I relaxed on the fishing kayak. Then once home, we vacuumed all the sand out of the car, lol. There are no bathroom facilities around the lake, so bring a Porta-potty.
Aug 12, 2022 · Mic HaelI have been going to moon lake for years. Been friends with the current owners of the lodge due to me getting our fourwheeler stuck in the mud where we shouldn't have had it but the sign is almost always covered. The 5 stars is for the staff of the Moon Lake Resort. They have always been good people and even will remain good people. More than above and beyond accommodating and helpful and fun. Will be sad to see them leave for New beginnings for Bill and Julie and the whole staff. Hope it doesn't change too much. You will love it here.
